I voted “Something else” for two reasons:
[ul]
[li]I notice them if they are noticeable. There are a lot of fashion choices today in men’s shoes. Some are noticeable, most aren’t.[/li][li]When I was younger, a female friend stated that shoes were one of the first things a girl notices about a guy. So I became more attuned to shoe choices that I made, and other men made.[/li][/ul]
I don’t usually notice unless the shoes or the rest of the outfit is distinctive. But sometimes I do.
I attended a wedding back in '04. I did look at shoes then, since all the younger men wore square-toed atrocities that made them look like their feet were semi-amputated. I haven’t bothered looking since then. Do people still wear those?
Fluorescent pink sneaks with a black track suit gets my attention.
Beat me to it. If a man is particularly well-dressed, or peculiarly dressed, enough to make me notice his clothes, I’ll also check out the shoes.
I agree with those who are more attentive to what women are wearing. Sometimes I’ll even say “Whoa, lady, nice shoes!” Not one has reacted in a non-positive way. Many have tried to engage me with anecdotes about where they found the shoes, what the shoes cost, what the boyfriend thinks of the shoes, etc.
As for me, I own a pair of walking shoes for walking when it’s cold out, and a pair of Birkenstocks for when it’s hot out. I don’t own enough socks, either.
I work in an environment where work boots are pretty common. If somebody is wearing boots that look particularly “work-booty” I’m gonna notice. If you don’t work in that kind of workplace you might not appreciate the subtle differences in industrial footwear.
I voted no even though I’m a shy dweeb and all I ever see of a person is their shoes.
Yes. Many years ago I heard that “woman express their personality with their choice of shoes and men express their belonging to a social group”. It makes sense.
I only look if someone is clomping around and I want to know what kind of lead-lined monstrosities can make that much noise.
Other men have feet?
Generally oblivious.
But if a guy is wearing limited edition, unusual, “designer” sneakers I might notice them.
And, maybe a couple months ago, I saw a guy wearing dark brown casual shoes, but with sky blue shoe laces. The contrast was very unusual, but in a good way, IMHO, so I copied the idea
Ah yes, Mr. Deltoid–total yob.
I don’t generally notice what anyone is wearing unless it is strikingly unusual (in a good or bad sense).
Shoes are way down the list. I don’t even register what women are wearing, unless they are F-M shoes.
I’m pretty sure that half the men on the street could be barefoot and I wouldn’t notice.
I’m very much not gay, but I am observant, and that includes footwear. So, yes, I do look at other men’s shoes. I only really pay attention if it’s something distinctive though.
I would only notice another man’s shoes if he were otherwise naked. In that case it would be the only option…
I always look at men’s shoes. Mostly because men who wear dress shoes with jeans are not to be fucking trusted.
But only slightly worse than jeans and actual athletic/running shoes.
Only when stepping on them.
“Oh, sorry 'bout stepping on your toes.” (glances down) “And about scuffing them in the process.”
Otherwise, no. I barely care enough to look at my own shoes, and that only because it’s sometimes kind of embarrassing to be caught out wearing a mismatched pair.
