Those are spectator shoes. It’s a retro look, but I wouldn’t say they clash.
Don’t noticing threads go in Great Debates?
I noticed Steve Buscemi’s shoes in **Boardwalk Empire **, but only because the camera zoomed in on them in the intro.
Noticing them, I thought I’d buy a pair. So I did a “purchase Steve Buscemi’s Boardwalk Empire shoes” search.
Heh, no. I’m hard on shoes, so $600 is out of my price range.
I don’t really look at another guy’s shoes unless there’s something really cool about them. Women, that’s another story…I’m not quite at Quentin Tarantino levels, but there’s definitely something appealing about a nice pair of woman’s shoes. (And they know it, too.)
A lot of people do look at my shoes though because they’re badass. These have been my regular shoes for the past 4 years. They’re Merrell M-Bound Trek boots, but unlike most Merrell shoes, their design is rather restrained and traditional-looking. But what really makes them stand out is the cream-colored soles and the red laces. There’s something about that combination of colors, and the brown leather of the boot, that everyone seems to love. “Damn, those are cool shoes,” I hear quite frequently, from men and women alike.
They’re also the straight-up best pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. They’ve been on countless trails, they’ve been in salt water, and a million city streets, and they show absolutely no sign of structural failure; they’re comfortable as hell; they are breathable and don’t collect sweat or any odor whatsoever; I plan to wear them indefinitely. They also look good with virtually anything short of a suit.
I’ll certainly notice a brown belt with black shoes or vice versa. However, living in Chicago for a while has taught me to ignore sneakers with business clothes.
… and I’m not just the President of Merrell Footwear, I’m* also* a client!
An old scooter tramp once told me “You can tell alot about a man by his boots.”
He had alot of opinions about “girly men and berkinstocks” and when it was acceptable for a man to wear “gym shoes” as he called them.
But, to the point…I always notice a man’s boots, or crocs:rolleyes:
Sure, that’s why it would have been nice if one of the poll options had been “I’m a woman who is interested in the result of this poll.”
It’s a nuisance to read a poll if you don’t vote in it.
Really? I do that rather often. I’ll even reply, saying why absolutely none of the options apply to me. (Usually it comes down to me being a weirdo.)
Few straight guys would ever admit to looking at ANYTHING about other guys.
Gay guys, on the other hand…
Someone could say to me “can you believe how good Jane looks since she lost 50 lbs?” and I would reply, “she did what now?”
mmm
No. I can’t even imagine wanting to. Unless I’m going to a wedding or a funeral (or I’m on the golf course or one of my bikes), I’m in my ASICS Kayano running shoes, baby! I’ve been buying them for 25 years.
I usually notice and draw conclusions.
I often notice. Mainly because I used to skateboard and shoes were a big part of being into skating.
Since the griptape shreds the shoe I’d always be buying new ones and theres a whole range of brands and pro models that I got into as part of the identity. Because of that my friends and I would always be checking out each other’s shoes and I made a habit of it. You can also roughly tell a skaters skill level based on the how worn each shoe is.
It’s right there in the thread title. How is it a nuisance to read the poll? Don’t open the thread if it bothers you so much.
I’m not gay but I can apparently seem gay sometimes. (Too bad my gay-ishness doesn’t extend to clothing choices - I could use a lot more skill.)
Anyway, I notice shoes. And then two to five seconds later I forget all about them.
With men and women alike, I take in faces, and to varying extents the shapes of their bodies, but people’s feet are the last thing I’m going to take in when I look at them, and really I just don’t get that far.
And unless it’s something pretty noticeable, when it comes to clothes, I barely notice what the women around me are wearing, and women’s looks are far more interesting to me than men’s.
Ask me in mid-morning at work what my wife is wearing that day, and I’ll have no idea. The good-looking young woman in the next cube who’s young enough to be my granddaughter? If she’s in a meeting somewhere else in the building and you ask me what she’s wearing that day, I won’t be able to tell you, even if it’s been just five minutes since I’ve seen her.
So shoes are off the radar every which way.
I said “certain situations” because in the office I will sometimes check out what other management is wearing, curious to see if they give a damn about wearing something that looks nice/fits with what they’re wearing. They mostly don’t.
I cannot think of a time I’ve looked at another man’s shoes except perhaps if they were wearing something that draws attention to them (like a particularly colorful pair or something like that.)
ETA: To be fair, I don’t think I’ve ever noticed a woman’s shoes, either.
Very rarely, so I went with “calling attention to themselves.” I just thought about the guys I’ve seen recently and could not tell you what shoes they were wearing.
This is mostly true of women I do not find attractive, though I find they are more likely to have shoes that call attention to themselves.
If I find you attractive, then I will notice all of your clothes, though, if they are boring, I will likely forget about them later.
