Men: What do you like to see women wearing?

Lightnin’, I second that emotion. I love the shy mousy intellectual girls (if they’re wearing glasses that’s fine with me).

But I married someone who doesn’t match that description. I love her anyway!

Lightnin’, the original quote is “Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses” (italics mine) by the great Dorothy Parker.

That is indeed powerful.

This too, is true - either a cameo choker or a thin scarf.

Uh, Jomo, buddy, some of our bunnies do don the slutwear IRL. My favourite on my bunny Kathy is her knee-high books, leather skirt, and black bustier. Yum!

See, just like I said, intellectual women are a turn-on

When I typed “slave-of-Gor slutwear” my mental image was of the outfit Princess Leia wore in Return of the Jedi in the lair of Jabba.

 Some kind of decapitation fetish? Or is this really just a penguin thing?

Or am I the only one here who likes to see women in denim short shorts?

I think jeans look great, too, as do many of the other suggestions made above. But it’s always seemed to me that women over 30 tend to abjure jeans, shorts, and the like when they realize they’re not going to look exactly like they did in college. I think it’s a shame. Beauty is an attitude, not a dress size.

A long time ago I used to deliver the mail.

I had one building, where there was a woman who was very shy, very quiet, and always home. She came out on to the landing above where the mailboxes were, almost every day. She seldom spoke at all, and never if I did not speak first. She was very pretty, fairly young, and always wore the same exact outfit.

Are you ready for this?

(consults extremely vivid memory of thirty or so years ago.)

Black long sleeved leotard.

Black, opaque tights.

Black ballerina slippers.

Starched white cotton pinafore, which comes down below the knees. (Mid calf) Ruffles and lace, no back above the waist, with a big, perfectly tied bow in the back.

Single strand choker, Pearls 'bout two millimeters, they looked real to me.

No makeup.

It’s such a strange, eclectic combination. You can’t wear this out anywhere, but she has it on every day. It may sound very odd, but let me tell you it was smokin’ on her.

Triskadecamus, <sigh> I miss those days when women wore long-sleeved leotards (you never see them anymore). Sounds like a real honey after my own heart.

As little as possible.

Or maybe just a smile.

Or maybe a few strands of web and a smile.

Oh, and I will get smacked for this.
No, I will get a Spider bite for this.

Wow, who knew, after all this time and effort, that guys actually DO notice what we (women) wear.

heraldgwena, it also proves that you can’t please all the people all the time. If you wore every piece of clothing mentioned in this thread at the same time you’d look like the Michelin Man. In a choker.

Hehe. Good point. Maybe I should just give up.

…Me!..

      ...ducks&runs...

I agree with the OP that Indian sari’s are very sensual. I happen to think cleavage is always good, but not any more skin than that. those dresses that are “cut out” down the side are also very sexy, but if the woman is showing cleavage too, it’s overkill.

Two more things I would like to mention.

–The backless blouse worn by tribal women in India, in Gujarat and Rajastan, called kâñculi coli in Hindi. It also made an appearance last year in National Geographic, in the cover story “Women of Grace: The Rana Tharu of Nepal.” Coincidentally, at the same time the backless top became fashionable in America (Amanda Peet in Whipped). But the American version is plain & sleeveless, while the Indian one has short sleeves and lots of colorful embroidery & mirrorwork. Both kinds have nothing in the back, just strings that tie across the back. I love this. I have been looking for one for Mrs. Mojo, but none of the Indian stores have them.

–Leggings. Fortunately, these are still ubiquitous. I started a leggings thread in MPSIMS, and although some women said they wear them, several women condemned them, and most of the men who replied said that they liked them.

Nope. I’m with you on that one. My wife, who’s definitely over thirty, when on a health/fitness kick a few years ago, with the result that her gams look BETTER now than when she was 21.

Last summer we were clothes-shopping and I EVER so nonchalantly handed her a pair of DKNY denim hot pants (being an old-style feminist, she’d call them “shorts,” but they’re hot pants, by god) and mentioned that I thought she’d look great in 'em. The pride thing kicked in, she bought them, and stared wearing them frequently. Sometimes dreams do come true.

Jeans/slacks (or shorts/skirt of reasonable length, not very short at all) and a baggy t-shirt is more than fine by me. I just prefer it, however, when clothing does not reveal every last detail of somebody’s body. Just seems too, well, cheap.

Assuming that the rest of the people who posted to this thread are normal, I believe that would make me a bit on the weird side…

Once, on another internet forum, when there was a similar question going, I wrote that I liked to see women in long dresses and long hair better than in pants and short hair.

That brought on nastygrams from a couple of irate women who told me, in effect, I had no right to express an opinion.

What a neat bunch the Dopers are! So open-minded and easy to get along with! I appreciate you guys.

Maybe it’s just because I like Indian women, but saris DO tend to melt me.

I’ll echo all of your thoughts in the OP, Jomo, but add a few things. Adornments are TERRIBLY important. Most favorite first: anklets, belly chains, simple necklaces, anything with jade or ruby in it, rings, bracelets… all adds to the feminine allure, IMHO.

If it’s strictly a clothing question, long skirts, ankle socks, those shoes that look like ballet slippers except they have the tying things that run up to the knee, anything sleeveless…I could go on.

If it matters at all, thinking of this had made me deliriously happy.

At least waist length long hair?
