Men: Women doctors: Do you have one?

I’m not sure I understand what the problem would be, even if you did get a little stiff. It’s more a physiologiacl thing than anything else, and the doc knows that. Besides, it’s not like you’d be the first patient to get a bit of wood on her; I’d lay odds you wouldn’t even be the first one that week.

And your doctor doesn’t just seem detached about your body, your doctor is detached about your body. They get unured to the site of naked strangers the same way they get inured to the sights and smells of horrific injuries and disfiguring illnesses. You look at it all day every day, and it tends to become a non=issue. Actually, I’ve always wondered if that tends to carry over into say, a female urologist’s sex life. I know when Dr.J was doing his gyno rotations, it was like, “Meh, I’ve already seen a few dozen of those today, so put it away, will you?”

No real problem… I do have some control. …and no, I did not get stiff. I just wonder if i got a little red in the face.

You know how you can feel yourself get red? I felt a little that way but I was trying to fight it. I’ve got real fair skin and i blush real easy over stuff. I’m white so it always shows.

I’m one of those people who are easily “embarrassed” for lack of a better word. Not really embarrassment, but if, say A friend compliments me I kind of light up. All my friends think it’s kind of funny. Somebody asked me earlier how old I am… I’m 28, but it really has nothing to do with it.

Mr. Ujest has a female general physician.

She is a little short indian lady.

She treats him exactly as I do regarding his eating habits and thoughts that if he eats good food the day before his exam he will magically lose the 10-20 pounds he needs too. Yelling at him and tellling him he will have to be on blood pressure medication the rest of his life…blah blah blah…

I love her and I’ve never met her.

His two old doctors ( we changed insurances) were men and essentially blew off his weight issues and ignored his blood pressure.

I have a woman doctor, too, but that’s not why I’m here in this thread. (Although, just to be polite before I slightly hijack: I’ve never felt uncomfortable with a woman doctor and, in fact, chose one to see if I would be. Of course, I’ve only seen her twice since I’ve had her–and for nothing more than allergies–so who knows the level of discomfort that may creep up should I need my prostrate played with. Also, as a quick aside, I used to go to a dentist who was one of the most gorgeous women I’d ever seen at the time. Just a bowl full of yummy, that doctor. My only fear, then, was that, under gas or pain killer, I just might declare my undying love for her. Didn’t happen…)

Contrary, we’re having a Dopefest in Kansas City at the Plaza, so you’re invited (as well as your contrarish family) to join! See this thread. Also, I’ll send you an e-mail in case you don’t check back with this thread.

I have a female doctor, and it’s no big deal. But I have no sense of shame at all and I figure if she can stand doing a prostate exam, I shouldn’t complain.

I KNOW it’s a lot quicker, and you ought to be grateful. Pelvic exams are not much fun at the best of times, though the really embarassing part only lasts a couple of minutes.

I figure ANYBODY doing a pelvic exam has seen far too many cooters to be interested in mine except on a clinical level. That doesn’t mean I’m not embarassed, but I’m not worried about anything untoward happening. It’s not exactly an alluring position to be in!

I had breast reduction surgery a few years ago, and the doc was a man. The first time he examined me I was a bit embarassed. After that, it was no problem. It’s not like he hasn’t seen 'em before!

Oh, I’m grateful. Very, very, very grateful.

My primary care physician is female. Can’t say as how it has had much impact w/regards to feeling self-conscious or invaded or otherwise uncomfortable with being touched. She’s clinical and efficient and I’m quite comfortable with her & vice versa. I’ve had male doctors who were clinical and efficient and would say the same about them. I’ve also had doctors of both sexes who were brusque or seemed uncomfortable themselves or left me with the feeling that my space had been invaded and tromped on. Seems to make more difference what sex the doctor is when the doctor is unprofessional, come to think of it. If I had to have an unprofessionally awkward or inappropriate doctor I’d rather have the female version, all things considered.

Uh, yeah, that would be the exact reason. This is also why going to a nudist colony or nude beach is usually not as much fun. it’s damn hard to relax when you have to constantly concentrate to control your pecker. It gets better with practice, but you can’t exactly “practice” going to see the doctor, can you?

As for me, the type of doctor I see most often is an eye doctor, and I have preferred females ever since I first went to see one. I’m more comfortable having them get close to me to check my eyes, and I agree with other posters that they seem to listen more, too.

As for an M.D., a lot is conditional. Obviously if I’m in great pain or dying, I’d care a lot more about someone’s competence than gender. But in general I’d feel pretty uncomfortable having a woman examine me below the waist, unless she both a) was significantly older than me, and b) put me at ease over the whole thing.
Anybody else remember that scen from “ER” where Maria Bello’s character had to examine a young man who had a hernial problem or somesuch? He had an erection, got embarassed, and left. I’m with him. If the doctor is young and attractive, or maybe even just young, I’d be extremely reluctant to have her examine me there.

Believe me, the first time your female doctor runs a Q-tip up your urethra to culture you, you’ll be cured of any such worries.

Here we go again…

I feel like an echo here. I’ve had many physical exams by females that included every orifice I’m aware of. No problem.

I had a D&C once that invollved a young, attractive nurse giving me a shave - once again, no problem.

Well, let me hasten to add that I am speaking only for myself in that post.

Well, I don’t see why not! The doctor practices seeing his patients!

God that is pure pain. I hope I never have to get that done again…

I hope I never have to have that done. Any doctors listening… You will have to knock me out before doing anything like that to me! No… **I don’t care what you say. ** That’s cruel and unusual as far as I’m concerned.

Yea, no one’s sticking a Q-Tip in my willy. I’ll die of something first, I can tell you that much. And you better have some elephant tranqs and a rifle to take me down. It’ll be Croc Hunter style!

Do you people feel that a female doctors have a higher probability of being sexually aggressive individuals? No, I’m not calling the lady I saw “sexually aggressive” get that out of your head.
