Merry Christmas! Whatja get?

i have 13 more shopping days for christmas!

my cats got gifts from a catholic fur friend. they each got catnip mice from fatcat inc. they really enjoyed them. however nod the naughty got an extra special gift from santa today.

she found a baby mouse somewhere in the house!

i thought i heard her say something, i called to her… she didn’t respond like she usually does; so i went down stairs to see what she was doing.

my mom sees her first and noticed something hanging from her mouth. as i get half way down the stairs, noddy drops what ever it is. the " thing" scurries under the couch.

nod starts nosing around trying to reaquire her target. no luck. the mouse has disappeared.

about 2 hours later, she suddenly jumps off the couch and is very intent on something behind the bookcase. i check it out, but there is too much dust, can’t really see anything. i get the duster and run it behind the case, sure enough there is the little mouse. noddy nabs it and runs under the table with it.

i grab the box from my secret santa present (thank you again, i really like the lighthouse) and try to get her to drop the mouse in it. after a bit of a chase around the living room , noddy finally drops the mouse in the box.

i took the box outside, did a brief check of the mouse (still alive, a bit wet, and rather disoriented, disheveled, but not bloody) and put the box on the frount step.

nod the naughty is happily finishing up a reward bowl of yummy food.

i think this is her best christmas ever!

I got a breakup with the woman that I thought I might wind up marrying. Nice.

…I am horribly sorry about your breakup. What comes around goes around, my friend.

But I got this…

no boyfriend in the same city

a grandmother I may never see again after this holiday

some cash

books regarding Eastern religion I have been wanting

a few gift cards (because I am picky about what I purchase/receive regarding clothing)

clothing (purchased by people who are sure of what I like)

candy (which I might as well tape to my butt because that is where it is going)

and because my mother’s boyfriend and I have never spent a Christmas together, he stuck to the simple but thoughtful…beauty products purchased with another female’s guidance (that being mother’s).

The best gift though - spending the time with Grandmother.

Merry Christmas to all!

Our kids, ages 18, 16 and 10, were up at 7:00.

I was very good this year apparently, which is a direct contradiction to what my husband says
I got…
Band of Brothers DVD
Sopranos Third Season
My Dog Skip
A Pictorial book of Scotland
A cool pen
A MST3000 DVD (Hellcats)
A Book on Everyday Magic
Gloves
A Vest
A stocking full of assorted goodies
A diamond and sapphire ring:eek:
2 carat solitaire diamond earrings:eek:

Wow, it seems that Santa was good to everyone this year!

I got:

A trip to Japan (well, I’m going through school, but my parents are paying for it)
A (very retro) leather jacket
An Edward Gorey Calendar
A graphic pen set
A watercolor set
A fountain pen
An argyle sweater, fleece shirt, and denim skirt
A Simpsons trivia game

I got a dry day (in OREGON - in DECEMBER - YAY!!) that enabled me to ride my motorcycle almost all day!!

Other than that, I got the normal stuff - books, socks, pictures of relatives, calendars, porn.

Oh wait, not the last one … that was already here

I scored this year. I was expecting a lot of practical stuff as my apartment burned down. Practical stuff is cool but getting neat but not necassary stuff is better.

Copmuter stuff:
A set of flat panel speakers with a sub-woofer from my brother. They rock compared to my old speakers. Woo!
A Scanner. From my parents. Woo Hoo!
A mouse from my sister-in-law/brothers girlfriend. Patty is now my mouse replacement source. Every X-Mas she gets me a mouse among other things and it is always about time for a new mouse.

Other stuff:
Two Ozzy shirts from my nieces and nephew. Woo!
Two sweaters from my Mom. Handy since all my sweaters burned in the fire.
A pair of comfy pants from my sister-in-law/brothers girlfriend.
A Sonic Care tooth brush. WOO HOO! I lost mine in the fire and I missed it. Best damned tooth brush ever.
A scale from my Mom.
A 9 in 1 tool from my parents.
A Sports Illustrated Swimsuit day calander. WOO! 365 days of ladies in bibkinis!. From my oldest sister. (A very strange gift from my sister but I like it)
A full set of kitchen utensils from my other sister. Very cool. I lost all my kitchen utensils in the fire. Have you ever tried to flip a burger using a fork? It ain’t easy.
A $25 gift card to Borders from my oldest sis. Also very cool as I read a lot.

And best of all this was the first X-Mas since 1997 where I was there with my whole family.

Slee

From sibs: Bored of the Rings, double set of headphones, Sacrifice (a computer game that doesn’t run too good on my dinosaur).

From parents: 30 bucks to Newbury Comics, Led Zeppelin Early Days and Latter Days (unexpected and delightful!), and… two more pairs of headphones, one of which is the awe-inspiring massive stereophones type, the other little buds that hook to my ears.

From Grandma: 20 bucks to B&N

From family Yankee Swap at Grandma’s: A 42-piece magnetic screwdriver set. Amazingly, something useful, though I could have done with the rug or the Maglite, too.

So I ended up with four sets of headphones. Whoops. I’ll keep the big stereophones for at home, and weed the best one out of the remaining three to use for travel. I’ll give the other two away.

We did the Christmas thing again today so I got more stuff. I got more money, more gift certificates for groceries and a care package from Grandma filled with candy, two towels, some tins of salmon, a few packages of tea and one of hot chocolate, socks and homemade cookies… plus after dinner she gave me a ton of extras… cabbage rolls, potatoes, stuffing, turkey and meatballs with gravy because she can’t eat it all herself.

Ohh we are gonna be eating GOOD for awhile! goes to snag another cabbage roll from the fridge

chases TVGuy with mistletoe

From Dad: Macromedia Flash MX!! What the heck!?! Dad stuns me both in his web savvy and how well he knows me. I’ve got the coolest dad in the world!

From the Creepy Girl: A full set of Henckel chef’s knives with honing steel and block. The block even has two extra slots, one of which fits my beloved and well-worn Wüsthof santoku perfectly! Rock! As if this wasn’t enough, she got me a Henckel cleaver as well – a full-size cleaver! Now no poor little animal is safe in my vicinity lest it end up butterflied and herb-roasted!

Sigh…

Woo Hoo! I got the star necklace that I was admiring from the Swarna-something crystal store. A couple of Ann Rule books and some wonderful household stuff I really needed.

But best of all was building a snowman and seeing the whole family.

A new copy of Godel, Escher, Bach.
Two new Star Wars lego sets: Jabba’s palace (Woo! Bikini Leia minifig!) and the Skyhopper.
Diablo 2 expansion
The Book of Leviathan by Peter Blegvad
The Complete Fawlty Towers DVD
Two wind-up robots
Candy
A Top Ten tpb
Hellboy: Bones of Giants novel
Three days off of work

All in all, a pretty cool Christmas

My son got a bike, I got a $50 gift certificate for Target amd boxes of candies, beef logs, and cheeses.
All from my son’s teacher, a Christina (obviously).
Thats it. No one else got us anything at all.

But my son loves the bike!

that would be Christian.
It is so hard to type that correctly…

Lemme see.

From SIL & BIL: Foot massage kit from Origins, The Runner’s Book of Daily Inspiration and a bookmark with that old Confucian saying, “A journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step.”

From MIL & FIL: $200.00 for running stuff, a loofah bath scrubbie, a digital camera.

From Mom & Dad: A 9/11 Book, a set of bath/shower stuff and $100 for running stuff.

From Brother and SIL: $25.00 gift certificate for Amazon.com

Whattahaul!

A much needed new printer which I’ve just finished installing. Now I can quit depending on the library to print cover letters!

From my brother, a bunch of nice, smelly bath stuff.

A couple of gift cards to Barnes and Noble from people who know and love me well.

A video tape of Amazing Grace from someone who will remain anonymous.

A gorgeous lace 2003 calendar from a couple of fellow Dopers.

CJ

Oh yes, I nearly forgot – a Christmas miracle on behalf of a man I’m honored to call my friend. Nice work, Dopers!

Oh, vanilla, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who does that!
CJ

Let’s see, I got:
2 dresses that I picked out but the Mr. paid for.
A pair of cross trainers that I picked out and the Mr. paid for.
A smoothie maker machine thing.
2 stuffed pigs that are so cute except the bigger one looks a little like my mom, but still so cute!
A stuffed Lambchop (Sheri Lewis)
$100.00
Some giftcards from friends to a dinner theater and restaurants
A very large ugly sweater which will be exchanged.
We bought a dvd player for the family and a couple of dvds.
The best gift was something we bought for my stepson and his wife, a digital camera, so they can send us pictures of their 3 little ones without all the expense for film, processing and postage.

You’ll have to forgive me for not making an exhaustive list, but the neatest things I got were Season 6 of the X-files from my parents, and a lamp with an alien fetus in it from my brother. I asked him how he explained the choice to his friends (he said they gave him a hard time for wanting to buy me LOTR:EE when he knew I didn’t want it) and he told me he told him I was " into that strange sci-fi stuff, you know, like the X-files." I also got a foot of snow I didn’t want and the happy news that my other favorite show comes out on DVD in 2003. (bet you can guess what that is from the link)
