Message board software problem or thinks I'm using a mobile version?

Is this a problem with the message board new software or there is way to remove box that is taking up the space?

How do I remove this?

What is this Go box, up box and menu box thing floating over the text? How do I remove it?

Or it seems the new software things I’m using a mobile version than desktop version. And box is appearing over the text where you cannot read the text under it.

It’s a change they rolled out overnight. They’re discussing the changes in this thread: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=835541

It just that Go box, up box and menu box thing floating over the text when I reading the threads here.

Making it very hard to read the text under the Go box, up box and menu box

Yeah, when I attempt to use the advanced search, only the left half of the page is viewable/accessible. The rest is chopped off. I’m on an iPad mini, safari, if that helps.

OK. So since this thread pointed out something that had vaguely irritated me, I clicked uBlock Origin, entered the Element picker, and put the cursor over the Arrow

It came up with, on a mini-screen:

So, on impulse I clicked ‘Create’ below that screen and the little thing vanished. I’m not sure how it worked, and I suspect I may have to either use NoScript or manually block that png image if it comes back, but for now it has gone on all pages.

[ The Element Picker is on the top row of uBlock, 2nd one on, and looks like a glass dropper used to feed baby orphans. ]

Excellent! Thanks.

ETA: It came back. Grr!

The element you actually want to block is called ##topcontrol or something like that.

You do have to reload the page. However it hasn’t come back for me.

Some blockers only block for the page you’re on; others block the recurring elements on every page they appear.

If it comes back when you navigate to another page, try another blocker.

(That’s one of the reasons I dropped ABP.)
