Pluto- that one hurt. I read it to a good friend on the phone just now and was thinking it sounded pretty good until i got to the word ‘fardels’ and we both cracked up. Oh well, there’s just no graceful way to say “fardel” and “contumely”.

heh.

“Argue for your limitations; sure enough, they’re yours.”

I think you did a great job, OfficeGirl, on both my list and Pluto’s. I’m gone for the weekend. See if you and Byz can get someone else to play, to keep this thread going. I’ll check back Monday.

With apologies to Margaret Wise Brown:

Goodnight to be
And not to be
Good night, troubles in a sea. Good night arrows
And good night slings
Good night to what outrageous fortune brings.
Good night proud man’s contumely,
Good night conscience cowardly,
Good night fardels hard to bear,
Good night, questions everywhere.

(Actually, this probably belongs in the "Brain Games #2 thread. Oh well.)

>>>clapping for fretful porpentine<<<

I should have known you’d tackle that one Fretful. (Don’t tell O.G., but I think yours is better! Do you think she heard us?)

I’m working on another list but so far all I’ve got is:

spangled
ramparts
gallantly
gleaming

After giving you all a hard time I guess I have to try it myself. No laughing!

Why, when I soliloquize,
Do life’s drawbridges seem to rise?
And vanity and reason mesh
And slide like nylon glides on flesh?

As flame ignites a cigarette,
Solitude enflames me, yet
I am frightened of the rush
Of feelings miscellaneous.

Metrically,
pluto

vanity soliloquy mesh nylon cigarette drawbridge miscellaneous

Parrot the Clown sits on the edge
The drawbridge between his heart and head

Vanity fades with passing years
His cigarette burned, his veins all bled

Miscellaneous thoughts of death and life
He’d like to die but lives in dread

The nylon wire didn’t cut his neck
His painted face lives on instead

The mesh of thoughts won’t let him rest
As he paints his face all blue and red

His soliloquy ends, the mirror breaks
And Parrot’s free from his daily bread.

NICE JOB, El Mariachi and Pluto. You put my measly ramblings to shame.

Next words, anyone?
