Message from David Simmons

Just checking in again, Nothing much has changed and, no I’m in no pain at all so far. My daughter and her falily were here over the weekend and my buddy from the bomb group was up yesterday. Someone remaked that he had a baby face in a picture I posted. He had a right since at the time he was 19 years ofd.

As to the cards, as ivylass said a loving God has made every hand a losting hand. I have not been shortchanged. I drew a good hand.

I appreciate all of the messages on this thread and feel honored that a fund has been started. Thanks to all.

I didn’t post earlier because I didn’t know what to say. This is a damned shame, but you seem to be a man who is grateful for all he has been given.

I wish you a comfortable journey.

Debbie

Okay, guys, he’s still here! Let’s have fun with this! Go link to your favorite **David ** threads!

I don’t know really what to say so I’ll quote Mr. Rogers:

“You made this day a special day by just your being you.”

I think that pertains more to some people than others. Congratulations on a great run, David.

I wish to thank you for the service to our nation in the darkest time the world has ever seen, you guys saved Western Civilization for all of us. Thank You.

Nothing can Stop the Army Air Corps. Don’t give up.

Reading about his makes me think of a visit I paid to a friend of mine who was in the late stages of bowel cancer. I hadn’t seen him since he’d been diagnosed and when I got the opportunity to visit, I’ll be honest, I dreaded it, and almost didn’t go. In the end I found it to be an uplifting and positive experience. Mainly because he was just the same as he’d always been and he and his partner were coping in a way that can only be described as inspirational.

Best wishes David. It’s not only about the cards you’re dealt, but how you play them. Like my friend, you seem to be playing them well.

These guys jump all over me when I mention my Father was in the Army Air Corps when he, Mr. Simmons and a few other guys saved Western Civilization.
So, Mr. Simmons, were you in the US Army, the US Army Air Corps, the US Army Air Force, or the US Air Force?

Add me to the “I’ve seen your posts and really enjoyed them” column.

Best of luck.

David, being (relatively) new to the board, I’ve never really had much of a chance to get to know you. Even so, please know that you’re in my prayers and in my thoughts.

God bless you.

Speaking of cheating…

In as much as I got to know you, David, you are a true gentleman.

We live on in the memory of those we meet and in the imprints we leave on their personalities. I think Im not alone in saying that your contributions to this boards have made us, even if by some small amount, better persons. For me that is the best measure of a worthy life, so heres me celebrating for a life well lived.

Cheers good man and thank you for sharing your knowledge, manners and wisdom with us.

Don’t really know what to say.

Actually, I think that other Dopers expressed anything I wish to say better already. So instead I’ll drink one for you David. You are one of very few people that I wish to be alike someday.

Godpeed.

I’m kind of a sporadic poster, so I never really got the chance to get to know you. Read this thread earlier and didn’t know what to say, but I can’t not post, because what I did know from reading your words was amazing, and continues to be.

I have all the respect in the world for you, and hope you’re doing as well as you possibly can be. Thanks for being here! My best wishes go to you and your family.

Take care, sir.

David, I’ve read many of your posts. I mostly remember the pictures you’d post in the picture threads. You’ve added your voice to a chorus of old fogies and spring chickens alike, and it is an invaluable addition. It is a voice that will be missed and that cannot be replaced.

I wish you love and comfort.

I was in the Army. Specifically in the Army Air Corps.

Actually, Western Civilization had pretty much been saved on the Russian front by the time I go to the ETO.

You should still tell your story Mr. Simmons. Things get lost that really shouldn’t be lost.

Sssssshhhh! It’s a little late for storytelling lesssons, but here goes. A better choice of phraseology would be, “Western Civilization was on the brink when I got to the ETO.” :stuck_out_tongue:

Gotta keep up the interest of the grandkids!

Let me add my prayers. Thank you for your service as well as your great contributions to this board.

I went looking through some of David’s older threads after he started this thread. The story at the end made this my favorite.
