Message from David Simmons

Whether you’ve intended it or not, you’re setting one hell of an example.

What you said about the cancer being a fact, that you had no reaction – is that what “stoic” means? It seems to me like a good way to deal with it.

That and the pain meds.

Peace to you and your family.

(While tears flow down my cheeks, tears for a man whom I never met, but knew only through the net.)

Sir, you are a good man and will be missed. May you and your family have peace in these difficult days.

Well, crap. (He sez eloquently…)

You’ve always been one of my favorite posters.

I ain’t the praying type, but I’ll try to send good vibes your way.

My sentiments exactly! It has been said many times, you play the cards your delt.

Can’t you cheat?

I’ve been trying to think of something worthwhile to say, David, but I’m kind of stumped. I refuse to miss anybody who is still here, but I want you to know that I’ve always enjoyed your posts and your perspective. Take care, be well, and please stay in touch with us as long as you can. Thanks for everything you’ve given us over the years.

Unfortunately, the house always wins. :frowning:

David, you’re not in any pain, are you? Are your friends and family around?

David!

Check in, please. How are things going?

Would everyone please take a moment and read this thread? Something for David
Thanks,
Rick

David, you’ve taught me how the Coriolis force is best explained, and I’m grateful for that. It may not be much, but it will remain with me. My best wishes to you – I hope I will match your serenity if I ever get such a diagnosis. And stay with us awhile longer, will you?

I don’t know what the hell to say.

May your choices bring you peace.

DAMN!

David, best wishes for you and your family.

Now, here’s a thing. Mr. Simmons is obviously a remarkable man, and I join in sorrowing for his news, although I have never interacted with him. He is of my parents’ generation, the Greatest Generation as they say, and judging from those I grew up loving and respecting, I know that’s true.

But, it also shows me that this is a remarkable place, since such a man was a regular here. You guys should all be proud of him, and yourselves.

Well, here’s hoping you pull the card that fills that straight flush.

But for whatever your time is that’s left, I hope it’s full of joy, love, and sharing with the people you love.

Good luck with whatever happens.

Mr. Simmons, I am saddened for you, your family, and those of us on the Dope who are going to miss your presence.

Go with God, and thank you for all you have given, and shared.
<completely selfish cry> Not yet! I’m not ready, yet!

All my best thoughts are with you. Wish I could do something constructive.

Damn.

May this next stage of life’s journey go exactly as you wish it to go, and may you be surrounded by three times as much love and friendship as you ever dreamed of.

Damn, David. I’ve been off the boards for a while, so you might not even remember me. You’ve always been a poster whose contributions have been insightful and interesting to read.

Your choice is a difficult one. But I commend you for having the clarity and determination to make it. I hope it all goes, well, as smoothly as possible.

That damn disease. :frowning:

David, I realize that you’re not necessarily able to do a lot of things these days, but may I ask you to share the experiences of your life with folks in some manner that it’s accessible to a large number of people? I know you’re modest about the things you’ve done, but I can tell you that I’ve often found in my digging into the history of Preston Tucker, even the most mundane seeming things are precious nuggets. You witnessed and participated in some of the most historic events in human history, your memories and perspective of those events are priceless, and any of them that you can share will help us not only understand those times, but those to come. Thank you.
