David Simmons is The Voice of Experience. I wish him strength, comfort, and luck.
I’m sorry David. Peace be with you.
i’m sorry to hear of your illness. i hope things go well with you, and that you be granted peace and strength .
Goddamnit, David. Your immense wisdom, gained from a fascinating life well lived, is something I admire and respect greatly, and whenever you post, I read and learn. I have followed with delight the posts about your life - your anniversary, your mountain climb. Please keep on posting while you can, and my fingers are crossed for your recovery. I am sure you haven’t made the decision lightly, and I should respect that, but damn, I shall miss you.
Everytime I see a thread about WWII and/or WWII aviation and I see someone spouting off with opinions gleened from Google I would sit back and wait for David Simmons to come in and set them straight. Which you would do gently and with class. Never with an “I was there A-hole!” that some of us would be tempted to throw in.
You are a gentleman in the strictest sense of the word. The greatest generation indeed. I am better for having interacted with you and I am glad to have the chance to tell you.
Good luck, David.
Wishing you peace and strength.

You’re an inspiration, and I’ve always enjoyed your posts. God Bless, and may your days be filled with serenity and light.
Thanks for being here while you could, David. My best to you and your family.
Peace be with you. And
Regards,
Shodan
David, I’ve appreciated your insights into everything as diverse as rain at the Rose Parade to the evolution of our constitutional rights. I wish you and your family the best right now.
I couldn’t put it any better than that. We don’t know each other, Mr Simmons, but you are a poster I have come to admire and respect in the years I’ve been here. My thoughts will be with you and yours.
You’ve been a big asset to this board and I suspect to many other things during your life. My best to you.
Most of what I want to say would be repeating what’s been expressed above, but nobody seems to have explicitly said: thanks for letting us know what’s going on.
David, you have always had my greatest respect and gratitude for your contributions to this world. I wish you nothing but the best in whatever may come to you next.
I cannot do other than adhere to what has been expressed by so many others in this thread. Best of wishes and luck to you and to yours, sir, you are in our thoughts.
Here’s a picture of David and Wilma at LADope2003 (The Pit).
I’m glad I saved these.
ETA: This photo was taken the day of their 60th anniversary - they chose to spend their anniversary with us.
Thanks to all for your kind words, but please don’t “gush,” For the poster who “trusts my posts implicitly” - that’s a bad move!
I have made several really classic blunders, so BE WARNED!
I have discovered a neat thing about being an invalid: everyone says nothing but nice things about you and you are the center of attention. Again, THANK YOU ALL and best wishes.

David, I don’t think that I have ever had too much interaction with you on the boards, but I have always enjoyed your posts. I’d like to thank you for two things, first, your service - they don’t call you the greatest generation for nothing. Second, thanks for your contributions to this community you are one of the people that really makes this place great.
My best wishes to you and yours.
Crap!
On the one hand, from the sounds of it, you can’t say you didn’t have a damn good run, all in all.
On the other hand, who knows if they’ll ever make 'em like you again.
I’m facing some similar situations with my own grandparents, so I’ve had a chance to think about this for a bit.
Thanks for that. even though it made me tear up again
