Metalocalypse

Metalocalypse has been on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network since about September. We started watching it in October (I guess, can’t remember exactly). New Years Eve, they ran all of the episodes in order (twice) and we tivo’d the whole thing.

Is anyone else watching this? I love its absurdity and how it parodies metal and rock in general.

Rockso the Clown? Totally David Lee Roth.

I watch it religiously. Having a husband that didn’t fit the mold in his speed metal band really adds to the background of my enjoyment. The lawyer/manager is my hero. “Try me.”

I love it. I’ve never gone to a metal concert in my life and I am just about the last person to self-identify as a real metal fan, and I love it. It walks the line between extremely gory bloodfest and rather twee relationship drama (thanks to Brendon Small, also responsible for “Home Movies”) very well. Plus, of course, it has the coolest theme song ever to grace a cartoon.

If you liked “This Is Spinal Tap”, this is a cartoon for you.

“That’s my bread and butter you’re messing with”, delivered in a calm monotone is the best line EVER.

I’m also not a metalhead.

I am in love with Skwisgar - at least, as much as a grown woman can be in love with an absurd cartoon character.

Didn’t know they replayed them in order, would’ve taped them myself.

I’m anxiously awaiting the dvd set, and or a legit CD of it… played the “birthday/dethday” song for the wife on her birthday… great stuff.

www.adultswim.com has clips and mp3s of it…

I’ve only seen one episode, and I’m also eagerly awaiting the DVD release.

Brutal!

My wife and I love this show. I’m a veteran of wannabe speed metal bands so it has a special resonance. Whoever the writers are, they aren’t poseurs. They really know the culture, the attitudes and the music. It’s like a metal head fantasy in cartoon form.

The “Dethklok” music itself is actually pretty good. Does anyone know who performs it?

I also think the manager rocks. He must be the greatest manager ever in the universe. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect his band, up to and including beating the shit out of demons, and he’ll do it with that same stone-faced expression on his face.

The Rock and Roll Clown is totally, brutally, David Lee Roth.

My favorite ep is probably the Lake Troll – where they didn’t want to play the accustic instruments because accustic isn’t “metal.” I love Toki’s line when they first see the box of accustic guitars: “what are those wooden things, furniture?”

I also like the Snakes ‘n’ Barrels episode where Pickles reunites with his old band (a transparent G ‘n’ R parody). The Illuminati doses the band with a super powerful hallucinegenic drug which drives them insane and causes them to kill themselves onstage…all except for Pickles whose drug tolerance is so high that the drug has no effect.

C’mon GingerOfTheNorth, we know you just watch it for your red-haired brethren Pickles.

But seriously, it really is a great show and it really does capture the right kind of vibe. I love it when they had William Murderface play a bass solo with his balls.

Awsome show. My favorite is the “Family” episode. “The Blues” is great, too. Swisgar and Toki learning the blues is hilarious!

I just read about this show recently, but haven’t seen it. Now, with this thread, I gotta find it - when does it show on CN?

In the article I just read (Entertainment Weekly?), they indicated that one of the writers plays the shred guitar and the other helps with lyrics and such…

It’s on sunday nights on Adult Swim. The episodes are short – just 15 minutes – so don’t blink.

I’ve found a few episodes over on youtube. The recording quality varies, but they’re there.

Brendon Small himself is a graduate of Berklee and performs the music AFAIK. At the very least, he is doing the full length CD that is to accompany the DVD (I can’t wait).

I find that the metal guys I know that have a reputation (in m household anyways) as taking it way way way too seriously hate this show. Hits too close to home I suppose. If I had a nickle for every pimply-faced youth with a Crate and a Warlock that thought he was the brutalest thing since Euronymous, I’d have a coupla nickles. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, and I nearly forgot my favorite scene in the whole series, when Murderface goes looking for religion:

Awesome.

Dethkløk has a myspace page with a few songs.

I saw Brendan Small in a bump once, demonstrating how to play the theme song. That kid can shred.

That one is probably my favorite, too. But it was Murderface who said that. My second favorite is the one where they adopt the fat kid. “Try not to choke you fat tub of $#*&!.. we love you”

Someone has to mention that you can play some Dethklok on Guitar Hero 2. By far one of the best songs in the game, hard and satisfying to play.
