fushj00mang, Ya know those masks you’re issued to protect against chemical weapons? You’re supposed to put it on your face without first turning it into a bong.
From the United States Constitution (cite here: bolding mine):
“Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.”
In this thread you have displayed remarkable interpretation of that bolded phrase … interpretation inconsistent with a reasonable reading of that phrase. It would be my guess, based on kaylasdad99’s post, that your lack of regard for that facet of adherence to US law is what prompted the post in question. The notion that assault with a soda can is punishable by painful, drawn-out death resulting from grossly inadequate medical care is cruel and unusual. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that.
I’d reckon some of the people crying in sympathy for this kid have written posts rejoicing about the murder of a pedophile or rapist at the hand of other prisoners.
Well, by his own admission, he’s neither a judge, nor a practitioner of law. One presumes that he isn’t a rocket scientist either.
fushj00mang-
You’re a strong believer in God, huh?
Assuming you’re talking about the Christian God, I want you to remember that you were commanded to love your neighbor as yourself. I’m not seeing a lot of love in your posts. According to the Bible, God loves Omar just as much as he loves you. Have some compassion and leave the judgements up to God.
P.S. -I personally am not a Christian, but I sure can witness. In the Pit no less!
Just for the record, I don’t rejoice at murder, any murder.
What a funny thing, then, that any witnessing done on this board, by rule, must be done in GD. From the forum page:
Meanwhile Headcoat has done an enviable job of equating a teenager who was in prison for assault with a soda can to a sexual offender. Congrats!
You are a disgusting bag of flesh. You do not deserve to wear a uniform, much less a medal. I’m sure you will get them anyway, because you know how to say the right words to the right people and do what you’re told.
I have a stepsister in the Army. She handles hazardous chemicals and biological agents. As far as I know she hasn’t been blown up yet by a suicide bomber running out of a Baghdad alley, but one never knows. She hates me, not without some reason, but I still hope she returns safely. I have a cousin in the Army Reserves. He’s an engineer. He hasn’t been called up yet, but one never knows. I have another cousin in Army basic training, who may get shipped to South Korea to keep an eye on Kim Il Jong. I have an uncle in the Air Force Reserves who fixes A-10s. I have another uncle who retired from the Navy, and who served in the Gulf War on the USS Mars. I have another uncle who was in the Coast Guard. My grandfather was a Filipino guerrilla fighter against the Japanese in WWII. He had an ugly shrapnel scar on his neck that just barely missed the carotid and the jugular.
None of my relatives have a bright, shining military career like you seem to be poised to take, but they do have one important thing you lack. They have a fundamental respect for life, all life. Well maybe not my ex-Coast Guard uncle, but he’s a dickhead. The rest of them would not be here saying Omar Paisley’s death was no big deal, or that he deserved to die. They would be horrified, like any reasonable person. Unlike you.
How can you say that? How can you think that? You wouldn’t be killing something, you would be killing someone. Granted, someone who would be trying to kill you, but that’s not my point. My point is, you are eager to riddle someone, a living person, full of bullets. You are the inhuman thing here, not Omar Paisley. You are a disgrace.
fushj00mang, you are a first-class asshole, and I’m ashamed that you’re in the same branch of the military that my husband served in. I wouldn’t want you in command of so much as an Airman. You are completely lacking in all common decency. I don’t think that you should ever be placed in a position of authority over other people. For that matter, I don’t think that you should be in contact with other people.
That kid was entitled to certain basic care. His guardians (and they WERE his guardians) were criminally negligent. Yes, he was a criminal, and probably was headed for a life of crime. But he wasn’t sentenced to death, and even if he had been, he certainly wasn’t sentenced to an agonizing drawn out death. ANYBODY who can look at someone lying in his own wastes and conclude that the patient is goldbricking lacks basic human compassion, and I don’t want that person in charge of ANY helpless being, human or animal.
In addition, I find your use of “it” in referring to the kid to be disturbing. Very disturbing. Do you use derogatory terms about the enemy, to dehumanize them? I’m reminded of Jame in The Silence of the Lambs here.
Though not easy, you CAN kill a person a modified soda can. The article doesn’t state the severity of the attack; for all we know, it could be a mere flesh wound, or deep, multiple punctures. Are you claiming that an assault can’t be as traumatic as a rape?
For the record, I’m not a fan of killing criminals, regardless of offense.
I’m going to go out on a real limb here and assume that, had this teen used a modified soda can and attempted to kill someone, it would have been mentioned in the article.
And another real stretch here to assume that “cutting a neighbor with a soda can” isn’t meant to indicate that the neighbor received life-threatening gashes requiring multiple stitches.
Third real big ol’ leap of faith here; I personally doubt that the neighbor was as traumatized by being cut by a soda can (which it’s possible to do accidentally, I add) as your average rape victim is traumatized by rape.
I know, I know, I have some stuff in here that’s really difficult to accept. I guess I can only hope that the Teeming Millions will grant me at least resonable plausibility, especially for number 3.
This applies just as much to the medical staff as it does to the kid.
I don’t think I would want to be led by a piece of shit such as you. My husband wears the same uniform, and it sickens me to think the likes of you is in the same service.
Robin
I suggest we continue the discussion with fushj00mang over here.
As for the OP, some of us have nightmares; this kid lived one.
CJ
fushj00mang, I do have a suggestion for you- read Faith of our Fathers by John McCain. The first part is about how is Grandfather and Father served in the military, but the last part is about how he got shot down over Hanoi and spent 6 years in a prison camp. There is a lot of detail about being denied basic medical care for broken bones, dysentery, and other life threatening illnesses. There are accounts of being beaten and having bones rebroken, being kept in filthy medical facilities, and lying in his own vomit and feces.
Better yet, listen to the audiobook. He reads it himself, and just knowing that one human being put another one through that kind of agony is wrenching. Hopefully what you’ll learn is that regardless of the circumstances (war, prison, etc), human beings are human beings, and they deserve to be treated as such. They aren’t “its” The men who tortured those men (John McCain for 6 years) are the kind of men who think of other humans as “its”. I suggest you listen to it or read it and decide if you’re one of those men. I suspect you are, and I hope you’re never captured by one just like you.
To those who have labeled this kid a worthless criminal punk, I can assure I did worse when I was 17 as a degenerate addict, although I never did a day in jail. I’m sure you’d of thought me worthless and wouldn’t have batted an eye if I died at the hands of the authorities.
But ya know what? I was able to turn my life around and become a law-abiding, useful, productive member of society. I know a LOT of people who used to criminals but are now good people, with jobs and families and everything. People CAN change.
It’s a pity that this kid will never get that chance.
And this folks, is what keeps me in job security.
(For those who don’t know, I work with mentally disabled/homeless/addicts/average veterans who lack enough mental skills to manage life).
If folks are interested in the actual facts of what went on, they should go to the source, the (large PDF file) Report of the Miami-Dade Grand Jury. What they describe is chilling.
As to the question of his being in the facility, he was arrested and originally detained in the Miami-Dade Regional Juvenile Detention Facility.
[quote]
On June 6, 2003, Omar Paisley entered into a written plea agreement wherein he admitted to committing the offense of aggravated battery and agreed to enter into Bay Point Schools, a “moderate risk” residential program, where he would also receive individual counseling. Omar was to remain in secure detention at the MDRJDC pending his placement in the residential program. (Grand Jury Report, p.5)
[quote]
On June 7, “less than twenty-four hours after he entered into his plea,” Mr. Paisley began complaining of abdominal pain, and two days later, on June 9, he was dead.
One of the most disturbing aspects of the grand jury report was that the Detention Officers on duty were both prohibited by rules from calling 911 in an emergency and physically unable to do so from their stations.
This is a horrible thing that happened and I thank the Goddess every day that I wasn’t one of the unfortunate ones that got sick while I was in jail.
When I was 17 I ended up in the county jail for 30 days because I couldn’t pay a fine for trespassing. I trespassed in an abandoned building on a cold winters night. I was homeless, cold and tired so I went in to sleep. I was arrested after an officer came in to “clean out the rubbish” I guess since I was such a horrible criminal I should have gotten appendicitis and died huh Fushj00mang?
That CHILD didn’t do anything to warrant dying in that horrible way. Yes he hurt someone and went to jail. THAT’S not the issue here dumb ass. He was a HUMAN BEING and deserved to be treated with the respect and dignity that ALL human beings demand. No matter WHAT MISTAKES they make in their life choices. THAT is what YOU are supposed to be PROTECTING you lousy waste of flesh.
It was not the guards’ responsibility nor was the nurse authorized to carry out a death sentence. That is exactly what they did in their negligence. I hope they get to see what life behind bars is like.
Dude…did he really deserve to die? Okay, so the kid was no golden boy, but then again he’s no Andrew Kehoe either.
Sheesh, some people.
