Michael Cohen's House testimony

Cohen: “I fear that even if he loses the election in 2020, there will never be a peaceful transition of power.”

Just print this thread.

Is it just me, or does Cohen’s speaking inflections sound like Dr. Melfi from The Sopranos? (Lorraine Bracco).

Cummings with some inspiring closing remarks.

Makes sense. Both New Yorkers. Bracco actually tones her accent down in “The Sopranos.”

Well, Dr. Melfi is a Jerseyite, but Lorraine Bracco is from Brooklyn.

What do y’all think of Cummings? I am not impressed.

He did his job well and he delivered a fiery closing address.

Dammit! I fell asleep and missed most of it.

Surely I’m not the only person who noticed that Chairman Cummings just called out Jim Jordan for lying in his closing remarks, right?

A quick perusal of online comments on the hearings (overwhelmingly MAGA-friendly) found these straws being grasped at:

Trump wrote the Stormy hush money check from his personal account. Therefore, nothing illegal here. (wrong)
When Cohen was asked if he was aware of any collusion between Trump and the Russians, he said he wasn’t sure. AHA! NO COLLUSION!

Heh. Anyone who’s even lurked in GD will recognize that as the move of a true Doper.

The smokiest gun is the complete non-contesting and acceptance of the suit, by Trump, of stealing from his own charity and using it for campaign spending.

It’s just that, for whatever reason, no one seems to care that Trump is proven and (in essence) pleaded guilty to stealing from veterans of the US military.

Personally, I found this to be the most chilling comment in a day full of dreadful discussion.

I missed parts and haven’t been over a ton of sources, but was there any new information that Cohen added? I mean we’ve known about his payments to Stormy, the under and over value of his and his property’s worth, the racism, the lies about the Trump Moscow tower, his hypocrisy about almost anything Obama did, his bullshit deferment from Vietnam, that he cheats on his taxes, and Don Jr is a total dipshit.

I suppose I didn’t know about his hiding of Trump’s academic records, but it struck me that a vast majority of what he testified about has been already been known.

I suppose I’m just hoping that now, with his testimony, there will actual investigations that will actually hold people accountable, especially for the tax stuff.

I know that that is what Trump wants, but I still have enough faith in our govt and institutions that there will be a peaceful transition of power, regardless of Trump’s desires.

Although, let’s face it, Michael Cohen is still an untrustworthy shitweasel, even if he is now being truthful in spilling the beans about Trump. In presenting his own personal opinions, Cohen is going to focus on whatever angle will boost his tell-all book sales.

Which is to say that yes, I agree that Trump is almost certainly incapable of leaving the White House in a dignified manner if he loses the 2020 election. But what Cohen prophesies “will never be a peaceful transition of power” could in practice turn out to be anything from an actual declaration of martial law down to a prolonged elderly-toddler temper tantrum where the departing occupant theatrically refuses to leave and then spitefully trashes the place with overturned wastebaskets and unflushed toilets when he does leave.

I’m not wasting my spine chills on that scenario until and unless I see how it actually plays out.

Cohen is scheduled to be back in front of the House Intelligence Committee tomorrow. Is that another public session?

Did you dream? Did it fill your dozing brain with nightmares ? Because, that is what it was like being awake through the damn thing. I was doing other stuff but hearing it in the background. It was a glimpse into the yawning darkness. Like an epic struggle between Nyarlathotep and Shubniggurath, in which there could be no winners, not even the Lurking Horror. R’lyeah has fallen.

No. Closed-door. That’s the one that’s likely to get into the Russian connections that went through Cohen (if any).

So do I. For now…

But unlike just about everything else Cohen said today (which I already kinda knew he would say) this comment hit me hard from out of leftfield. Whoa. Didn’t see that one coming…
