Has anyone else given it a try? I thought it was a little uneven, but I liked the casting and the production is solid. I would definitely give it a chance if it gets picked up. It’s funny how long it took to get a Bosch movie or show; who would have thought his characters Terry McCaleb (Blood Work) and Mickey Haller (The Lincoln Lawyer) would get movie treatments first.
Apparently, Amazon’s stategy is to toss out a bunch of pilots and make the ones with the best feedback. I would have preferred Bosch going to a network that believed in the project and wanted to produce it.
I watched two of the other pilots: The After was laughably awful but Mozart in the Jungle showed some promise.
I feel the same way, and I’m glad they portrayed Bosch the same way he is in the books. A wise-cracking, “I don’t play by the rules” Bosch would be very disappointing. That’s why I’m happy with the pilot; let the whole backstory play out.
Still, like I said, I wish a network like AMC had picked it up for a whole season.
I loved the pilot on Amazon. I also thought Mozart in the Jungle looked like it could be pretty good, as well as The Rebels about a fictitious pro football team that is run by cheerleader wife after her husband dies. If any of you watch these pilots, I hope you’re going to rate them at the website URL given at the episode.
I ( a reader of the novels) saw it and liked it. My wife (who has never read them) hated it. She asked “am I supposed to sympathize with this guy?”. Without the internal dialogue from the books, it’s harder to convey Bosch’s good points.
I would liked to have watched it, but due to “restrictions from our content providers”, the service is only available in the US. Way to go Amazon - restrict your own product (that presumably you want an audience for) to one country. Not like you have to negotiate rights with another company for this one
I’ve never read the books, either. I enjoyed the pilot, but I can see where your wife is coming from. I just assume he’s got some good points in there somewhere and if it goes to series, I’ll find out what they are then.
