I’m not at all surprised. These anti-American shitheads already tried to overthrow the government once on 1/6, now they’re trying to get rid of the Constitution. They should be deported to Sealand.

I am not the slightest bit surprised. If anything I’m disappointed anyone would be; how can this take ANYONE by surprise? The Republicans have been getting their dumber minions to say increasingly radical stuff, bit by bit, for some time now.
They don’t say it all at once; it’s quite obviously planned because if they suggest too much at once it’d cause a backlash among Republican voters. As long as it’s only a backlash among decent people, they’re fine, and in a few months, someone else will be tasked with saying something a bit more evil. Bit by bit, they get the Trumpists to agree and accept the new Republican orthodoxy.
More is coming. It would be too much to just flat out call for a permanent Republican monarch now, but within a few years, an actual Republican will seriously come out in favor.

Which specific sect of Christianity do they think should be ascendant? Catholic? Lutheran? Anglican? Methodist? Pentecostal? Presbyterian? Baptist?
I suspect none of the above… these will all be deemed “unacceptable” and would be banned along with Jewish, Muslim and other religions.

An American theocracy isn’t going to happen on its own; it takes great effort and push to make it happen. So whichever denomination or faction that was pushing hard to instill a theocracy in the first place would be the top dog once it actually was in place.
Which would most likely be Trump evangelicals. You need both interest and power to make it happen. No other denomination in America has the interest to do so. No faction, period, has the power to do so. But the Trump evangelicals are the only one that have the interest to do so. They just need 30 million more votes or so.
One advantage taken in the formation of the Trumpvangelical movement is that, with many Evangelical denominations lacking a structure like a Synod/Papacy that can lay down the theological law, and in fact given the way many American putative believers are accustomed to ignoring those authorities and doing what feels right to them anyway, many of their target audience are wide open to letting the political chiefs say what it is to be Righteous at any given time.
I wonder what stories the guys who were directly under him could tell. I always naively thought that the process would weed out the people like Flynn before they could ever rise that high in rank.
I have zero respect for Flynn, let it be clear. Having said that, I doubt he was anything more than ambitious during his time in the military. He was hawkish, and almost certainly strongly conservative, but those are not exactly uncommon among those who serve.

It seems to be that politics (and being in the position of an advisor rather than a ‘do-er’) ruined him. He was apparently great at getting things done in the field, but like a lot of military generals that get to political rank, his idea of ‘fixing’ problems was eliminating them. To the bedrock - which is hawkish, and certainly endeared him to the Republicans, but almost certainly torpedoed him during his time in the Obama government.
The article points though, that while Flynn was outspoken against tyrants and Russia, he was more than willing to lend them his presence for $$$. Which is where he probably went beyond the pale in compromising any morality he had for wealth/influence/etc.
And then Trump, ah, the black, oily goo that is Trump. Flynn arguably had at least a bit of self-respect left when he decided to talk with the FBI, but found that he was still tarnished, and wasn’t going to have any influence, power, or opportunities to go forward. So why NOT double down on the ego, the abandonment of responsibility, his duty to the constitution. He was pretty much ruined for respectable roles, so sell your conscience down the river and ride the crazies.
I wonder if Sheldon Adelson will ever regret the Umpteen Untold Millions he has donated over the years to support these murderous clowns.
