Michael Jackson - if found guilty - immediate jail?

Now that the defense has rested, this freak show is almost over.

If he’s found guilty, would he be put into a holding facility right away?

IMHO, I think he’d run if given the chance (nothing to base this on other than a feeling). Again, IMHO, the only reason he hasn’t run yet is that he’s probably 100% sure he’ll be acquitted.

Jailed awaiting sentencing is the next move.

He’s out on bail now, right? If he’s convicted, his lawyers will most likely move to continue bail pending appeal, and my WAG would be that the judge would grant the motion. That’s assuming there isn’t some provision of California law I don’t know about that requires him to be locked up pending sentencing.

I’ve heard of posting bail pending appeal, or sentencing. Jim Morrison of the Doors was out on an appeal bond following his conviction following the Miami incident.

Given Jacko’s financial situation, I’m not sure he could afford it though. IIRC post-conviction bail is always much higher, since there’s so much more obvious incentive to flee.

Didn’t he have to turn in his passport?

Can I piggyback on this question?

Let’s say MJ does go to jail. Will be be placed with the general population? Solitary confinement for the entire stay? Is there such a thing as a unit for high-profile prisoners in California?

If Jackson is thrown in with the general population, it’s essentialy a death sentence.

I asked this a while back. This thread has some interesting insight.

I agree. There is no way he would survive a 20 year sentence even if he were kept separate from the others. Sooner or later on of them would get to him.
