BTW, I looked at the montage closely to see how it was done technically and I notice the photo of Bush is not really “made” by the individual photos but superimposed and merged. It makes it much easier like that. I thought it may have required some fancy somputer program to do it.
I don’t see it sailor, seems like a genuine photo mosaic to me.
The software to do this has been around a long time; the first one I saw was a pic a Jaques Cousteu made of seashells in OMNI magazine (print version) which had to be the 1980’s.
An affecting image. Good thing that they did it now – with each passing day, the size of each individual portrait must of necessity become shorter. Won’t be long before such a project will include too many people to be recognizable as human beings at web-friendly resolutions.
Well, there’s that fella who’s health insurance company was shamed into covering an organ transplant for. He’s alive today, thanks to the chest-thumping that squeezed the cash for a new pancreas out of them. Oh, and lots of people who are in the market for insurance know the name of a certain company that has a history of trying to weasel out of paying out in cases where their clients are going to die, and have the benefit of that knowledge when they’re shopping for policies.
Or how about that hotel that knowingly hired illegal aliens at exploitive wages, and then turned around and called INS on them after they organized for fair treatment. The workers have their US citizenship now, plus legal jobs, and the bastard hoteliers got a taste of spiteful calling-down-the-law, having to bring their hotel in line with health and safety regulations. Oh, and legal hiring practices.
Oh, and after a casual observation on The Conan O’Brian Show about some of the labour practices employed by NBC, some of Conan’s own grunts have been “hired” after “temping” at NBC for upwards of ten years. Now poor put-upon NBC actually extends health benefits to them, just like they were employees or something.
Of course, depending on where you stand on labour issues, you may not necessarily think they’re “good” things.
Personally, I’m glad that Michael Moore is out there. I have issues with some of his reaching, and wish that he wasn’t quite as much of an ideologue. He’s a necessary lowbrow counterweight to the plethora of moronic conservative talk radio pundits.

Not to me. Look at the individual photos and you will see their color balance, contrast and brightness are very bad. If the are originally like that they are all very bad photos which, by coincidence, match the need for this. i don’t think so. I thinkthey have just been manipulated. Is there anywhere I can get a similar array of photos which do not compose anything? I’d like to try it
I just thought they were a lot of bad pics, but I could be wrong.
A true photomontage will simply use the hues of the unaltered photograph to make the montage, but I’ve seen numerous instances like this, where some photos are tinted to get a desired shade. Usually it’s done if there aren’t enough “unedited” pictures to build the parent image.
As for SPOOFE’s assertion that this is analogous to Bush’s use of 9/11 imagery in his re-election video, I don’t think it’s quite the same, if only because its use here is about protest and opinion-making, not profiteering/self-promotion. That said, if the artist who created this image were to try to sell it for money(*), or ignored a request from a family member to remove an image, that would be wrong.
(* = As far as I know, the artist has not tried to profit from this image, and has asked folks to refrain from doing so)
Well, I thank the OP for the link. I was browsing the site, and came to a page wherein Moore debunks some of the allegations made about Bowling for Columbine. See, I had actually believed some of those assertions were true. When will I learn.

nah. I just did it myself. Take your mugshot and repeat it to make the background. now superimpose it at 30X and adjust the settings and there you have it. In each photo individually you cannot notice much but they add up to the total.
Did the OBL Mosaic come out yet? Or will it take longer since there’s alot more tiles to work with there?

The Bush Asshole Mosaic of a few months back was made using a similar cheat. I wonder if Moore was aware of that image before he produced his masterwork? This might be a case of artistic plagerism
