Michigan or Florida?

So who Starts the next NCAA football season at #1?

Michigan or florida?

I know Florida has a young team including that Tebow fella,so they will have a lot of starters returning I would think.

Michigan has Henne,Hart,Manningham and Arrington all returning.

These IMHO will be the 1-2 teams to start off the year.

What do you think?

Almost every early poll has USC as #1.

Stewart Mandel

HEY! USC was NOT one of the choices! :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously tho, color me ignorant.I didn’t realize Booty was coming back, thought he was a senior(tho that doesn’t change MHO) and didn’t know there where polls out already.
Can somebody find one with Michigan at #1,it would make me feel better, thanks.

AFAIK, USC only had 4 seniors start in the Rose Bowl. However, it look like Jarrett is going to leave early for the NFL.

my money is on USC

It is, and remains, my considered opinion that the previous year’s champion should remain at #1 at the start of the coming season. If they aren’t still the best, it will become obvious early on.

That makes no sense. The rankings should, and do, take personnel and scheduling changes into account. There is no continuity from one year to the next in the NCAA.

The rankings are an imprecise predictor at best. At worst, they are basically worthless. As such, it doesn’t matter one iota who’s schedule and personnel are what. Instead, as the gatekeepers of the final bowl games, they should start with some basic rules. For example, suppose that Ohio St. had won, but that USC started the next year in the top spot, and both Ohio St. and USC go undefeated to the end of the year. Should USC remain #1, and should the reigning Champs be #2, just on the whim of what writers and coaches thought about the off-season intangibles?

Of course, sense there is little rhyme or reason in the system anyway, I suppose it’s pretty unimportant in the long run… :stuck_out_tongue:

Your example is not very good, as numbers 1 and 2 would certainly go head to head in the final bowl. There’s no trophy for mid-season number 1.
