Mid-Atlantic Dopers, Sound Off!

You only got 24"? We got a lot more than that.

FTR, folks, Theios and I live only a few miles from each other. But she lives on the Northwest side of the Blue Ridge and I live on the southeast.

Apparently that can make all the difference.

Yes, I am. Good call! What do you do at NADEP? What is NADEP, for that matter?

Naval Air DEPot - we rework aircraft and engines and components. And as it happens, I work in P-3 engineering, primarily on landing gear rework. My last tour of active duty was in VP-45. Drop me an e-mail if you’d like to meet after you get to town!

And I’m posting now from Sunny Florida, having snagged a seat on the first flight to Jax from Balto this morning. It’s nearly 70 out and I have the windows wide open. Small comfort for the aches in my shoulders and back from shoveling the car out yesterday.

Another Richmonder checking in.

The past long weekend was too much food (pan seared steak with garlic mashed potatoes and Caesar salad for Valentine’s Day Dinner, with a good Merlot and home-made chocolate mousse for dessert, with generous helpings of chicken stew, salmon, and tons of other edibles throughout the weekend), too much drink (martinis at 1:00 p.m.), too much smoke ("I haven’t gotten this high in YEARS! giggle giggle giggle), lots of bed time (thought I was going to say “too much,” didn’t you?), and too much TV. I’ve got a snowed-in hangover.

I’m certainly up for a Richmond Doperfest, and will offer whatever assistance I can to get it off the ground.

Oh, I forgot to say how I survived the storm.

I was snowed into Boston for two nights past my stay. I stayed alive through making midnight runs to the Dunkin’ Donuts a few doors down, playing hearts with my marooned comrades, watching TV, and reading “The Hobbit.”

This is as opposed to what I would have been doing, namely working on a research paper.

Ashburn, VA here.

I finally left the house today for the first time in three days. Things are pretty bad out here, and aren’t going to improve for a while.

But I can leave the house. This makes all the difference.

I am a MAD from just outside of Rehoboth Beach, DE. Frequently in New Hampshire on account of school.

… where, by the way, I laughed my head off at the antics in Delaware, where the concept of snow management is nonexistent.

Yorktown, VA here – and I hope to make it to another DopeFest someday. My luck hasn’t been good with them recently!

Jess

Another Balti-moron checking in.
The main roads are fine, but the residential side roads are still a horrendous mess. Most of them just one lane; there’s no way can two cars travel in opposite directions.

They’ve cancelled school in Baltimore county through the end of the week.
Oh, and FairyChatMom? Bite me.

I used to be a MAD, but now I’m not. It saddens me, except for weekends like this past one, when instead of shoveling snow I spent the weekend in Key Largo snorkeling.

yeah, yeah, yeah, snorkel this. [/Andy Sipowicz – another MAD?]

The great city of Philadelphia has not yet deigned to plow my block, or any of several surrounding blocks. I finally went out in the car today – got stuck once on my way out, then stuck again when I got home, trying to get back into my parking place. (I live in an extremely hilly neighborhood.

Wow, it looks like i get to be a member of two Doper sub-groups. As an Australian living in the US, i’m already on the G’Dope list of Aussie and NZ Dopers, and now there’s a Mid-Atlantic group!

As you can see on the left, i’m living in Baltimore. If you want to see what my neighbourhood looks like after a couple of feet of snow, go here.

Well, by the time I got home Tuesday morning, all I could measure with a yardstick was 24". But my girlfriend was keeping a running total of all the crap she shoveled during the storm. She claims we got 30".

Your guess is as good as mine as to what we really got.

I saw this behavior when I lived in Pittsburgh. I’m sure it happens all over, and every city claims it’s unique to them.

mhendo I think I know where you live!

/raises hand/

I’m an Annapolitan.

Due to my work schedule, I’ve only been able to attend the DC Lunch Bunch one time. I’ll keep my eyes open for other get-togethers.

Yeah, you all are going on the invitation list for the next Chance Estate party, you know.

Be warned.

Then I guess you don’t want to hear that we’re expecting it to hit 81 on Saturday??

[sub]I’ll be quiet now.[/sub]

Well, I don’t like the heat, but 70° is okay.
81° is just too hot.

It’s supposed to get up to a balmy 45° today. I’m taking the lining out of my coat!

I’m back in my sandals.
