Thoroncir looks around cautiously, longsword in hand, making sure Gilraen stays to the rear.
While searching around a click is heard and then a grinding noise. Bitur and Gwaelur realize the ceiling descended a bit.
What do you all do?
Ghân immediately retreats out the room, suggesting that most people join him until the experts ensure the room is safe.
On hearing the news, Deor carefully checks for any additional traps in the hallway before he exits the room.
“I’ve either entered a second stage of puberty and a new growth spurt is kicking in or we just triggered a trap.”
Looks at Gwaelur. Does the thing where one puts one hand at level and compares heights between the two of them.
“Mahal’s blessed hammer, that’s what I thought! Everyone out unless you think you can either stop this thing or want to know what it’s like to have your kneecaps coming out your nostrils.”
The knight-errant likes his current height, and decides it’s time to leave the room, too.
The party makes a hasty retreat except for Mulligan who looks for a way to stop the trap. The ceiling descends another 3’4" and grinds to a halt.
Mulligan is relieved as she does not even need to duck.
 meep
Somehow I don’t think I stopped it and there doesn’t look to be anything else of interest in this room. As I haven’t found a way above the ceiling either, I think we leave this one for later.
How about we take care of that last unexplored passageway on the left before heading for the tunnels on the right?
For future reference, Ghân will stay back until our scouts have checked for traps.
The next chamber is dark of course. It has a sort 6’ wide passage leading into a 24’x33’ antechamber that leads out to a very large vaulted 60’x98’.
The room is filled with soil and a foul but not strong smell of decay. There are mushrooms nearly everywhere.
Mulligan will, of course, take a look. However, before doing so, she will ask if any Undead or Evil is being detected ahead.
Just in case.
No undead or evil is detected though the Evil detection is a very short range. There are still orcs in the area according to Sting but that makes sense in Goblin Gate.
Elfstan joins Mulligan this time and they make there way cautiously through the mushrooms. They notices the room is segments off. Many old trunks have been brought in and the variety is fairly diverse.
Could you explain this again? I’m not grokking your meaning.
They notice the mushrooms are segmented off into different types with only a little overlap. Many old rotting tree trunks have been dragged in and leaned against the walls to add more growing room.
sorry
Hmm a mushroom farm?
I know nothing about mushrooms, but I find it very strange that there is a farm in this chamber. Can someone explaine the significance of finding a farm room like this? Why not just pick the mushrooms wild?
Several members of the party can suggest that cave dwellers need access to food in times of war and danger. Goblin Gate has a large population of goblins and though they supplement with a lot of night time hunting and raids when possible they need a steady supply of food. Mushrooms, fish, rats, bats and insects are common food sources for Orcs. Even Dwarves are known to grow some food when there isn’t a local human symbiotic community to do it for them.
Sounds like someone did a few too many 'shrooms before the previous post.
A mushroom farm? Okay, quickly sandbag the hobbits…
Deor will check the mushrooms to see if any are types that he recognizes from his alchemical studies. He suggests that the Dwarves, who might have more experience with underground growths, or Ghan and the elves, who might have more experience with flora, also might recognize some varieties. Learning what’s being grown here might give us some insight on what the Gate is being used for.
You know, considering this is the Grave Door, those mushrooms have probably been fertilised using dead bodies.
So, who is for brunch?
“No offense to the alchemists, but I do not see much to gain from spending time in this room. I suggest we proceed to the next unexplored passage.”
“On second thought, if the hobbits want to quickly grab some mushrooms for stew later, I won’t object.”
