Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

“You’ll get a piece of those orcs all right, since by the time I finish with them that’ll be all that’s left.”

Deor casts a sleep spell on the rear. It drops one closer large orc and 5 more Goblin. (in blue)
As the goblins and party charge the first rank crashes against the shields and the goblins get swiftly chopped down and the second shoves in and one goblin gets a lucky blow with his spear to Hraedsig for 4 points.
Three in the second rank drop to shield strikes and Bitur axe cleaving a second.
The third and fourth ranks lose 7 goblins to 8 more arrows

The Large Orc to the rear takes off, ducking low to run out the passage south. 3 of the rear goblins go to follow.

Mulligan, Elfstan, Jari & Víli head off and find the room with the two doors is empty but has all three doors open already.

The party advances and kills the 9 remaining goblins including the three that turned to flee. The large orc has ducked away. As it is but one orc, Gil-Gandel races off in pursuit to ensure the other 4 can handle him. The shield wall ensures the sleepers will not awake.

As the Orc charges into the room he is confronted with Jari & Víli. He takes a sling +3 Sling bullet to his right arm and as he goes to try an overpower Víli Elfstan puts Sting into his back for 54 more points. He staggers and crumples as Jari’s silver hammer came down upon his head and made sure that he was dead.

Thoroncir nods with satisfaction, and wipes his longsword Cirist off before resheathing it.

“Ha HA! Nicely done lads, nicely done!” Gwaelur suddenly remembers that this is not the all male party he thought he started adventuring with and amends “Err, nicely done ladies as well.” He coughs, “Good work all around. Let’s go onward!”

Hraedsig whispers: “I’ll get you next time, Orc bastards…”

“Why, thank you Gwaelur” says Mulligan with a mock curtsey.

Assuming Bitur overhears Hraesdig since they were next to each other in formation.

To Hraesdig:

“Not if I get them first.”

On to the next area then I guess.

We have a set of stairs behind us, a door to the side of us and a few unexplored areas ahead.

I suggest heading through this door and seeig what is around before moving further down the corridor.

Checking out the door closest t us is fine with me.

Agreed.

Is the door locked?

From #161,

Gil-Gandel has unlocked the door, but it was never opened.

So who wants to peer around the door first

Miron, “I think you might need to leave two extra with the rear guard this time. We are now covering what appears to be the main choke hold for the Grave Door. Can you give us Brin and maybe Elfstan? I don’t think you need a Ranger in here much and we could use the extra bow and one of those orc detectors/hides in shadows people.”

I think that’s a very good idea. Having to guard our backs and hold the door is vital while we try and smoke out what remains in here. With Elfstan here, at least they will know if the Orcs are coming. Not to mention, between Miron and Elfstan, they can have this area trapped in no time at all. We may have to be extra careful on the way back.

As for the door, I’ll head in first. None of the swords are glowing, so there should be nothing within 100 yards. I reckon the door and the area behind it should be relatively safe.

Back shortly.

Mulligan opens the door and finds only darkness ahead of course. What do you want to use for a light source or do you want the party to follow you in?

I’ll get a bullseye lantern out and take point 10 or 20 yards ahead of the rest of the party, who can follow me through I guess.

What is quickly found is an irregular shaped pentagonal room that is 62’ across the great distance from East to West and 40’ from the short 10’ hall to the north wall. There are no door and no creatures in the room. The walls look like they were white washed a very long time ago. There is fine white powder and a bit of rubble on the floor and the 7’ ceiling appears to be rough in parts like some sort of plaster had been applied to it but it is falling down.

Bitur notes that the ceiling appears to not be one piece with the walls and the ceiling might move up or down though not likely for a long time.

I’m more than happy to go through and back up the little lady.

Time to take a look round for traps, secret doors, hidden things.
