Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

Braggart:D

*If Elfstan is not back yet, I will go and find him before he decides to jump in front of another troll or take on a horde of Goblins.

After all, he has killed one troll already. I really don’t want him aiming for another.*

Mulligan heads down the east hall and after a short bit she hears goblin voices before seeing Elfstan or the Goblins. A short time later she sees Elfstan inching his way back towards her. He stops and signals for her to wait. He waits 30 seconds and comes swiftly back to her and relays that he thinks the Goblins are ready to make a break for it the way we came in. “What should we do?”

Not that I know what is going on yet, but when I do know my first thought is going to be “Ambush!”

*Hmm, lots of Goblins coming this way.

Elfstan, you go back and tell the others what you just heard, our job is to stop them escaping, so I think they will want to make sure of it.

I’m going to see if I can get an idea of how many are coming and when. Hopefully I can get a bit of warning to the party before they come through.

Yes, I know it’s dangerous, but I am a little more expendable than you, not to mention a little more cautious *

Mulligan is going to inch forward to see what she can find.

Deor stands ready to Sleep any goblins that should happen our way.

Elfstan reports back and suggests the party get moving to cut off the goblins.

Mulligan comes racing back shortly after with a report of only 30, but two big ones in the rear that look dangerous.

That’s what we keep [del]burrahobbits[/del] scouts about the place for - best follow the recommendation. Form up and move out, and there will certainly be some dangerous creatures in the next fight; I can count a dozen or so from where I am standing.

Thoroncir draws his longsword and hefts his shield, ready for whatever may come their way.

Shield wall is best for swarming goblins, so form up. Ranged weapons should concentrate on the two big ones, but I’m sure you already knew that.

Here is the battle map, I need to run so I won’t post until tonight or tomorrow morning. Let me know of last minute changes. Please comapare this map to the actual map for exact location.

The orange † represent the wall torches.

Given where this fight is going to take place, if the goblins decide to break and run they could go back and down and head for the chamber with two doors leading to the main gate.

I think it would be a good idea if Elfstan and I circle round and make sure they cannot get out that door.

I don’t expect any of them to make it of course, but its better to be safe than sorry.

Take two of the rearguard with you - we still have two more to cover Gilraen and Ghân.

A quick non-magical blast on Glinras just to give the new arrivals a cheery welcome…

Jari, Vili, with me and flank Elfstan.

Let’s go cut off their escape, shall we.

I could Web the passage behind them, cutting off retreat, but I don’t think it’s worth using the spell on this group. Sleep on the back of the Goblins’ ranks, so that those at the rear can’t retreat and any from the front who try may trip on their way.

I want a piece of those orcs!!

Me first!

Ghân agrees: Web works on all sorts of opponents, but Sleep is best v loads of weedy chaps (like these goblins).

Deor, if there are no archers in the groups and they are just plain goblins, I would save your spells for when we really need them.

If any opponent starts casting (or turns out to be as dangerous as a Troll), Ghân will use a Summon Insects.
