Ghân will use Summon Insects to help anyone in trouble, otherwise he will pass Gwaelur 8 Goodberries and also do a Cure Light Wounds on him.
Gwaelur has already had 8 berries today I think. Gilraen will assist you and add her own cure light. Between you he gets back 22 points and is down only 3
Gwaelur will be getting ministered to this round.
Gil-Gandel and Brin switch to swords as Elfstan looks for a chance to do what he does best.
… giving other players a chance to give instruction …
Thoroncir grins inside his helm and happily chops away at the goblins with Cirist, his longsword. Elendil!
I am assuming the shield wall contracted to compensate for Gwaelur’s move back. If so, then we should move the wall steadily forward toward the sub-Chief.
“Flankers and ranged fighters: if he scampers like the miserable cockroach he is, do not allow him to escape! Shield wall - forward!!”
If heading right, then Mulligan will make sure to block the other entrance out of this room.
As the battle rages almost too quickly to comprehend, Deor’s struck by a funny thought- he should track his spells expended for the day somewhere, maybe by making a tick mark with ink on his arm. He’s so distracted by this that he almost fails to duck as the lone remaining orc with a crossbow levels his weapon to shoot. As he does drop to the floor below the level of the Dwarven shield wall, he settles it in his head- one 1st and one 2nd level spell remaining today. He’s fairly sure of that.
So Thoroncir swings Cirist and kills his opponent.
Bitur and Hraedsig close on the sub-chief. He is well armored in actual plate mail and swinging a huge heavy two-handed ax. He stands over 6’ high and must weigh over 400 pounds. He brings the ax down hard on Hraedsig and cleaves into him for 23 points. Bitur chops back with his ax into the goblin’s lower leg for 16. He misses with the war shield. Hraedsig cuts the goblin right in the face doing 20. His war shield hits for another 15.
Gil-Gandel swiftly dispatches the goblin with the crossbow. Brin and Thoroncir move on the chief as Elfstan sneaks in behind.
Mulligan slams the east door shut and throws the bolt. She did hear running coming up the steps.
Gwaelur has hit Dwarven Crossbow loaded with his Mithril bolts and is looking for an opening.
Gilraen and Deor stand ready as Ghân closes the door the party came through.
The huge goblin brings his axe down on Hraedsig again and does another 21 points putting Hraedsig down at –2HP. His armor will also need repair.
As the goblin is bent a bit from the strike and screaming a blood curdling battle-cry, Sting pierces his back for 60 points! The goblin now lets out and different type of cry. With his mouth wide open, Thoroncir Cirist through as Bitur chops off his left foot and Brin sticks him in the side with his long sword. The goblin sub-chief drops already dead. (There is an excellent chance that any one of the last three hits would have been plenty to finish him off.)
Gilraen & Ghân race to Hraedsig as Brin immediately begins staunching his wounds. Gilraen’s cure light heals 15 and Ghân does 5 more with cure light. Hraedsig might want to use his 10 points of Lay on Hands on himself today. He has only 18 HP as we speak.
Hraedsig props himself up, spits out a bloody tooth, and says wryly: “Hmm, perhaps that was divine punishment for my headstrong behavior earlier. Gods, that one packed a wallop. Many thanks for your assistance, friends.”
Hraedsig feels like a wise voice is telling him to use Lay on Hands, and he wholeheartedly agrees. He prays silently for a minute before touching his wounds and closing his eyes, letting the cooling sensation wash over him…
After making sure his companion is OK, Bitur asks if he can look over the armor and see how much repair it needs and how much time/equipment it will take.
Ghân checks that there is no immediate danger.
If safe, he asks if the party (and Gilraen especially) want him to cast a Cure Serious Wounds (for 2d8+1) - which will use up several of his 3rd level spells such as Summon Insects (because he has used all his 4th level spells for today).
Aside from that choice, Ghân has just 2 Cure Light Wounds (for d8) left (plus Goodberries* and Herbal Cures).
*Each person can only take 8 of these per day.
He suggests that the party consider when to stop for the day:
- if we are out of cures, it’s very risky for the brave Fighters
- we should also allow time to decide if we are going to camp outdoors or in here (when we will need a very defensible room)
We have company by the other door, which will probably be here soon.
If we are going to rest then it would be better to do that upstairs where we have better numbers and a route to the outside. I would strongly suggest not waiting here as we can be cut off at both exits to this room.
There are at least four other areas which might contain a reasonable amount of Goblins. Just something to consider.
What is the current in game time please?
Sir Thoroncir agrees that stopping right at this place and time would not be ideal, but once we reach a defensible position - even if that means retracing our steps - it might be advisable. Regardless of the hour, it seems like it’s been a long day already. That last giant goblin was not to be trifled with!
After ensuring that Hraedsig is recovering and that Gilraen is well, the knight-errant is ready for the arrival of any other foes.
It was about 9:30am after the mummies and 8:00am when the party first entered. The subsequent battles and explorations and interrogation have eaten up time more swiftly. This puts us close to noon.
Hraedsig has 28 of his 42.
Gilraen, “I can afford another (double) cure light and thus spare Ghân his high level spell. Let me know. … I to am getting low on spells.”
Bitur keeping in mind that Mulligan’s has new guests coming up. Bitur calls Gwaelur over and together they use some leather cord to quickly make temporary repairs to Hraedsig’s quality Dwarven banded armor.
Gilraen, “Someone please hold the door for a time until we are down with Hraedsig. Gwaelur let me and Ghân bandage and salve your wound.”
Hold the door here, I’ll buy us some time.
Mulligan will head back through room 28 and head east down the passageway and down to the other entrance to this room.
When she gets there, she will probably use a smoke bomb for mass confusion in the close tunnel.
Mulligan goes through the south door and realizes that another group is coming through the door from 24 as she is opening this one. The party is now officially surrounded.
Ghân can use herbal cures (3hp each) on Hraedsig (he has 30 left).
He has Summon Insects and Neutralise Poison for the combat.
"Now is clearly not the time to rest. Ghân, a couple of those herbal cures will get me in good enough shape for this upcoming melee, thanks.
Can we possibly barricade one of these doors so we do not have to fight on two fronts?"
Thoroncir will quickly look about for beams, planks or goblin polearms with which to bar one of the doors. If that’s not possible, he’ll stand just beside one of the doors and chop down any foe who tries to pass.
“I can. Where shall I put my last Web?”
I’ll sort out this side. One smoke bomb between this door and the previous one coming up. It should slow them down for a while seeing as it will fill up the corridor.
After that, we are going to have to break out the other side.
