Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

This is not a retreat, its a tactical withdrawal.

*I think everyone is going to realise we are down here now.

No time for subtlety, let’s move and get up those stairs, although I guess we may have company above.*

Mulligan speeds up and takes point to see what is ahead and give warning to the rest of the group.

Thoroncir continues to lug the strongbox, looking about to maintain tactical awareness.

So what is everybody else doing then?

Deor’s hustling along, trying not to trip over his own feet and wishing he could do more to get us out of here quickly.

Ghân is happy to be retreating in good order.
He is ready with Summon Insects (strong v a single opponent), Stone Shape (to open a doorway or block one) or even Heat Metal (v metal clad opponents).
He will cast these on the advice of the Scouts…

I believe Bitur is still guarding our flank as we withdraw.

The party makes an orderly retreat along the passage and to the stairs. Mulligan moving ahead finds a goblin in the large room at the top of the stairs.

If it is a small goblin, Mulligan will take it on.

If its a big goblin, then Mulligan will call to the rest of the party following and then take it on (Injection Dagger + Sleep).

If there are any goblins to the side of the stairs coming up in the room, Mulligan will try to avoid any incoming attack as she moves into the room.

I would prefer to take it down alive and give it a chance to surrender, but I’m not fussy.

You could easily take it out by sling bullet.

The room is poorly lit and large portions are dark so there could be other goblins lurking. The one goblin in the light of the single torch is a smallish one. No more than 5’ tall and lightly armored.

5’ tall and lightly armoured is big for Mulligan

I’ll use a sling bullet to take the goblin down and then check to see if the rest of the room is clear.

Out the room and into the corridor and we will head into Miron’s traps and the constructed bottleneck.

Mulligan’s first bullet drops the goblin as he grabbed the torch to look for the odd noise. Mulligan hears another goblin loudly whisper, “Slinger, rentig’s dead”.

Where did the voices come from, further into the room or by the door?

In slightly raised plaintive and hopefully defenceless voice. “Oh no, where is everybody?”

The voices sound like they were from the north end of the room, far from the door.

Mulligan hears, “Quick lads, on her.” She hears feet running in her direction.

“Oh no, goblins, what will I do?”

Time for the sling to do double time and leave a bit of space for the others to come up the stairs.

How many of them are there and who looks most likely to join in the fun from the party?

The party gets moving quickly up the stairs. Mulligan can hear them. As soon as the first goblin is visible Mulligan lets loose another bullet and the lead goblin goes down but then she sees 6 more shapes come into the dim light of the torch.

The goblins charge as one and Mulligan drops one more but the 5 charge her. She is hit by a spear for 6 but the goblins turn as they hear Gilraen’s singing and see in her blaze of light a fierce Dwarf and towering human charging at them. A second man sends a strongbox sliding into the room and charges forward screaming something like “Hell and Dil”

I got hit? That Goblin is going down.

Deor won’t get involved in this fight, but rather will watch our back, ready to put up a Web if we start getting attacked from behind.

Now you’re getting into the spirit! :stuck_out_tongue:

When it’s safe, Ghân can either give Mulligan 6 Goodberries, or cast his last Cure Light Wounds, or let Gilraen heal the hobbit.

I guess Thoroncir could’ve just thrown the strongbox at one of the goblins, but sliding is fine, too.

The knight-errant draws his longsword and has at them.
