Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

Hmm, they are a bit far out of range for a sling.

I wonjder if we can get them any closer, or is it too obvious that they look like they want us to attack them.

Follow close behind me - I shall lead the advance, and probably have a better chance of reacting to any little surprises.

Now would seem to be the time to tackle the wights. Thoroncir, Elfstan, Hraedsig, move forward to join us, we need all the firepower we can get. Gilraen, can you give me one more light, my helm needs a charge and I think we will need it’s blast to defeat these demons? Stay organized everybody, keep each other covered and try to stay in formation. I will need to get into range so I can blast them with my helm, if I can do so while maintaining the shield wall so much the better. Elf is your sword going to stay alight for long enough to get in another attack?

Yes, [slightly nettled]dwarf[/sn], it will last long enough to kill all of them if necessary, and if they don’t get me first.

“Good” says Gwaelur with a mix of happiness that he seems to have gotten under the elf’s skin finally, and worry that now is the time that the elf chooses to become nettled “Gilraen doesn’t look like she is going to be able to charge my helm again at this time, and the others who can harm the wights might not be able to make it up here fast enough to back us up, so it looks like you may be our best hope. We will cover for you as best we can. On my life elf.” With that, Gwaelur gives him a large smile and then turns to steel himself for the battle. He doesn’t know if his mithril bolts will harm the wights, but he loads them and gets ready to fire a volley on Gil-Gandel’s command.

Thoroncir makes his way through the Dwarrow regiment, murmuring his apologies as needed, and joins the front ranks again. He steals a glance at Gilraen as he passes to see if she’s all right.

I can pin anything that tries to drop on us to the ceiling, but that would leave me without any more Webs for the day. I’d prefer not to use spells too prodigally at the moment.

Ghân smiles at Deor and comments that we spellcasters should use spells as needed. The key is to avoid party losses (or level drains).
We can always retreat and recover spells.

If my name is too much trouble for you to remember, then feel free to call me “Captain” or “sir”.

Or just grunt and point, if that is easier.

Oooo-kay, now that we’ve established that, can we move forward on the wights?

Hraedsig does the same, minus the significant glances.

And you thought I was doing what, exactly? :dubious:

Naur a gurth! Naur a gurth!

These tall people are always getting on each others nerves.

I thought that was my job.

Umm, shall we go and kill the already dead now.

Deor’s Web continues to blocks the North passage.

Elfstan quickly dispatches the last 5 corpses that have been dropped but won’t stop moving. He keeps rearguard with Ghân & Brin as Thoroncir & Hraedsig head forward and join the front rank. The rest fall in behind. Thoroncir is relieved to see that Gilraen looks fine and it does not appear this is taxing to her at all.

Gwaelur sends a pair of mithril bolts through the Wight in front of him. They appear to hurt it.

As the Dwarves advance the stick long torches into the holes in the roof of the passage.

Another two groups of corpses appear in the large cross tunnel. Gilraen Destroys the group to the north.
Deor throws his second web across the south.

Thoroncir strikes with ** Cirist** drawing the Wights attack. Jari cleaves into it at the knees as it strikes for Thoroncir. Thoroncir is hit for 9 HP and feels Kálthalion grow warm to the strike. The Wight appears almost repelled by its touch of Thoroncir. Mulligan lets fly two more Chalcedony stones at this Wight and it drops.

Bitur is extra careful and works to block all strikes from the Wight with his shield. He is concentrating so hard on defense that he misses twice with his battle-axe. He is not struck but his shield hand grows chilled.

Gil-Gandel hits with both his blades injuring the Wight but the Wight hits him for a cold touch that does 7 HP.

Gwaelur strikes with his axe and shield and hits with both. The Wight looks pained. Gwaelur is hit for 8 HP and fails his save vs. the chilled touch and is left paralyzed. Hraesdig runs the Wight through with his sword and misses with his shield. Víli brings his hammer down hard and the Wight goes down.

Two Wights are down. (I’ll post next round later)

Never mind. Should have refreshed thread.

The knight-errant roars in anger and dismay to see Gwaelur go down. Shrugging off his own wound, he redoubles his efforts and hacks furiously at the wight still engaging Bitur.

Does Ghân think a Dispel Magic will free Gwaelur from paralysation?

Ghân thinks combined with one of his herbs it might well do the trick, but it will take more time then normal. You recall Radagast talking about. You then realize that Athelas in the hands of someone like Gilraen will really work well and she can do the herbal part while still singing and you cast your spell. You do not think you can do anything immediately though.

It appears from the map and description that the Wight that paralyzed Gwaelur went down. Hraedsig will try to step up into its place to try to get himself in between Gwaelur and the remaining Wights.

Gilraen Destroys the group to the south in the webs.

Thoroncir and Bitur finish off the Wight in front of Bitur and Gil-Gandel and Hraedsig finish off the other.

This is just in time to see a horrible fearsome Wraith sweep away Deor’s webs.

Rüdan yells in fear and stumbles into Miron.
Mulligan thinking quick fires another Chalcedony stone at it as several Dwarves nearby scatter.

Gilraen attempts to Turn the Wraith but fails. Thoroncir is fearful but races to the Wraith to protect his lady-love.

Hraedsig feels no fear for the foul apparition of death and lets Víli get behind him. Gil-Gandel of course fears not these dark manifestations of the enemy. Bitur’s heart is willing but for some reason his legs won’t move.

The Wraith moves on Gilraen sweeping a sword dressed in cold flame at her. Thoroncir lunges with **Cirist ** and blade meets blade with a great ringing and sparks fly. Thoroncir continues his charge and his magic shield slams into the enemy. He feels a chill in his limbs that not even Kálthalion can completely overcome but Gilraen’s song keep him from panic. Hraedsig swings sword and shield and finds neither weapon will bite its unholy flesh. Gil-Gandel’s long sword misses but his short sword stabs the wraith in its cold shoulder. The flames of his sword injure it and cause it to lurch back.
