Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

Well fought, all. Stay in formation and keep a good watch out for fresh enemies. Care well for Gwaelur - he is a brave Dwarf and we have often had cause to be grateful for it.

Ghân will ask Gilraen for advice about curing Gwaelur’s paralysation (with Dispel Magic), then feed Thoroncir 8 Goodberries, then use a Cure Light Wounds on Thoroncir (again provided Gilraen advises him to).

Mulligan will assist Elfstan in recovering from where he is on the ground and help him to clear his head from the concussion as well as resheathing Kkósal bane in its scabbard.

Gil-Gandel is down 7, Gwaelur is down 8, Thoroncir is down 23 and 2 Dwarves are down 3 and 5 respectively.

The Dwarves bring down the last of the undead. Elfstan thanks Mulligan and then he and Gil-Gandel help to dispatch them. As the last is run through the blades dim. Sting is still glowing but not strongly.

Gilraen nods to Ghân and assists him with Thoroncir. She bandages his wounds and applies herbal salves. Ghân’s Cure Light heals Thoroncir 8 and he is down but 1 between the berries, spell and herbal healing.

Gilraen then heads over to Gwaelur taking Thoroncir and Ghân with her. She pulls out a small metal pot and motions Gil-Gandel over. She manages to indicate that she needs the water heated. She gently breaks some fragrant fresh Athelas leaves over the water and under Gwaelur nose and begins to work on his wound. Ghân casts his dispel magic when she signals. (In the meantime he can work on the other injured if he wishes.) Gwaelur comes around and Gilraen sees to Thoroncir’s leg. He feels the warmth return as his magic sheath responds to Gilraen’s ministrations and song.

This takes roughly 6 rounds so far. Miron and Brin will assist Ghân in healing the others.

When all is down, Gilraen ends her song and casts her Extended Light on Rilthol for Gwaelur.

“Truly a battle worthy of song, my friends. I have never seen such an unholy visage as that Wraith. We are blessed to have come through as well as we did - well done, all.”

Hur, wha…did I miss the whole battle?

Thoroncir is feeling much better now, although he is still somewhat shaken by the experience of fighting the unholy foe. He climbs to his feet, picks up and sheathes his longsword, and says, “Thank you, Hraedsig, for your assistance. I am truly indebted to you.”

He then says quietly to Gilraen, “Thank you as well, my lady, for your healing touch. I’m glad I was able to be of some small service to you. I noticed you were as surprised as I was that you were unable to Turn the wraith. Why do you think that happened?”

Let’s recover and bag the wraith’s sword and cloak for later study.

Gilraen, “I don’t understand why this creature could not turned. I also am unsure what it was. It did not seem like the wights which seem similar to the barrow wights. It was more like a Ring Wraith. Perhaps a slave wraith that is now free or perhaps something else. It’s cold touch seem odd and powerful.
I would suggest a sip of Miruvor for yourself and Gwaelur.”

Gwaelur was somewhat conscious of what was happening, but he felt as if things were very slow and his limbs were leaden and icy cold. His tough Dwarf constitution resisted greatly but he felt as if something was tearing at his soul and mind.

Thoroncir will gladly uncork the Miruvor and offer a sip of the potent Elven cordial to Gwaelur and anyone else who feels the need, before enjoying one himself.

He asks the lovely Gilraen, “Do you think, my lady, that the creature may have been Kkosal itself, about whom we were warned in the House of Vanimelde? It seems to have been much as that vile one was described.”

Gilraen, “I don’t think so. I think the Lady Kanotir had a stronger foe in mind for us. In the end, this Wraith seemed little more than a creature of the Wraith World that feeds on life and then bends the remains to his will.”

“Let me just check if any vile traces remain (Detect Evil) before we touch them.”

Whatever it is, I’m just glad it’s not here anymore.

Yes, please. Thanks.

Gwaelur shutters to himself for a moment. It is taking him a bit longer to recover psychologically from the attack than he would like. That his other injuries are still hurting him is no real help.

Ignore that last statement if my 8hp have been recovered, but I didn’t see that they were in What Exits? post about my awakening.

“Maybe I will have some of that Miruvor Thoroncir. Thank you. Thank you.”

Ghân will use Goodberries on Gil-Gandel, Gwaelur and the 2 Dwarves (he can use up to 8 per person each day).

He can cast Detect Magic if required.

Along with a taste of Miruvor, Thoroncir will give Gwaelur help in getting to his feet, if he likes.

The blessed berries of the Druedain are as pleasant as they are efficacious - many thanks.

We have done well to rid the world of this latest collection of horrors, but the day is yet young. Once we have tidied up here, we should press on.

Bitur removes Rithol and approaches Gwaelur.

“Here, my friend. I believe this is yours. I thank you for it’s use, and apologize for not being able to ask your permission first under the circumstances.”

He then proffers his “special” waterskin to Gwaelur. “Drink up. It might not heal as well as Miruvor does, but it definitely refreshes in its own way.”

He will also replace his own helm on his head and find the crossbow he dropped when he engaged in melee with the wights.

“Thanks to both of you, Bitur and Thoroncir. And of course, thank you Ghan for the Goodberries” Gwaelur drinks deeply from Bitur’s skin and then gets up under his own power and hands it back. “I am fine, fine thank you. Good as new with the Miruvor and Goodberries. My helm is charged, and was able to serve its purpose even while I was incapacitated, so much the better.”

He dusts himself off “Gil-Gandel, I am as tidy as I am likely to be under the circumstances and ready to press on with the rest of the party. I suggest we move quickly, as we are not far into the caves yet, and I doubt that the welcoming commity we just encountered was all we needed to be cautious of. Best to find them before they find us.”

Re-sheathe the no-longer-flaming swords, it’s back to Lindorn for now.
