Thoroncir’s strong gloved hand flexes on the hilt of his longsword. He is ready, come what may!
The three archers are in position. The pair of Hobbits split off to set some traps and seal some doors. Elfstan to the North and Mulligan to the south. The main party is ready for a fast charge into the rear of the goblins as soon as the signal is given. Gilraen quietly works her way up just behind the archers, knowing that she cannot spell-sing while running. She see how the first round goes before casting.
Elfstan finds a passage first, he runs a few light lines as a trip. He then works his way over and finds two door. Both open into the chamber and he wedges them closed.
Mulligan comes across a secret door first. It opens away though and she is unsure what to do other than note it. She decides a trip line will have to suffice. She finds a door and wedges it shut and an open passage, but too close to the Goblins to rig anything.
At this point the goblins seem to be calming down, it is possible the party waited longer than they should have.
We’ll try to dispel that calm, then. Prepare to loose off, as quietly as possible. If we can drop a few so the first thing the enemy notices is that several of their number are suddenly expiring gull-feathered then so much the better.
Thanks. So we’re approaching from left to right (from west to east, if north is “up” on that map)?
Mulligan will keep to the shadows near the open passage and stay out of the way.
If anything is coming down the passageway, she will shout an alert.
I believe Hraedsig is at the back of the pack now, so I suppose for this battle he’s hanging back and protecting the rear unless someone calls for his help up front.
He should be up front for the charge I think. Your call.
If tough leaders charge into the chamber, his Protection from Evil will be valuable…
Oh, Hraedsig is willing and eager to be up front for the charge. (Just didn’t think that’s where he was). Get me on up there!
Brin fires first and the rear goblin goes down. As the goblin drops the arrows for Miron and Gil-Gandel fly as one and two more goblins drop. Swiftly three more arrows go flying. Two more goblins drop and one is injures. Cacophony breaks out and two more arrows fly. The goblins rush at the archers and the Dwarves led by Thoroncir, Hraedsig, Bitur and Gwaelur race around the corner. The four pull ahead but the rest follow in full a clanging charge.
Gilraen pulls herself into the shadows and observes.
As the goblins charge arrows fly and Elfstan gets the rear most one with Sting and Mulligan drops a pair with bullets from her sling. 11 of the 40 goblins are already dead. The three archers retreat to the sides. The goblins are suddenly faces with the four intrepid warriors. The lead goblin looks nervous and halts causing a small pile up. Another goblin shrieks in fears when he sees the company of Dwarven heavy infantry.
The goblins scatter and race away. Thoroncir chops the closest one down, Bitur chases down another as Gwaelur goes for the ones running for the northern passage. Hraedsig catches a pair up against the south wall and kills both. The Dwarves charge down the goblins. The massacre is swift. Gwaelur catches a knot tripped up on Elfstan’s lines. He sets into them and is quickly joined by Jari and another Dwarf. Elfstan hears a loud roar from the door he is near. Mulligan gets the gift of a large orc tripping into the main chamber. She takes a quick look and stabs the downed orc in the back.
The goblins are nearly done and the archers move into the main chamber followed by Gilraen. Deor and Ghân have come up behind to witness the slaughter. The prepare for something more.
Thoroncir looks around, foeblood still dripping from his blade, and attacks any remaining goblins still on their feet, especially any near his beloved.
Gwaelur’s near at hand - let’s have him, Hraedsig, and the four nearest dwarves, formed up and watching Elfstan’s door for any roaring developments. Elfstan, conceal yourself and be ready to Sting whatever it is. The rest of you, continue mopping up.
Mulligan will keep an eye on her side, dragging the Orc body out of the way as well as removing any purse the Orc might have had.
Ghân is protecting Deor, keeping a benevolent eye on Gilraen and is ready to cast Faerie Fire (on Troll-type enemies) or Summon Insects (on Orc Leader type enemies).
Ghân also politely asks a few dwarves to keep a rearguard on the tunnel we entered by.
Hraedsig forms up, ready for more.
If any really large groups appear, Deor can Sleep them, but for the moment he’ll hold fire and wait.
The easternmost north door burst asunder. A large troll stomps out to be quickly shot with a rain of arrows and bolts. Bitur, Gwaelur, Hraedsig and Thoroncir race up to the troll. It swings it great hammer and just misses Gwaelur. Hraedsig stabs him and Thoroncir strikes with Cirist. The Axes of Bitur and Gwaelur both strike home. The troll was not expecting or ready for such a reception. He swings again with his hammer but misses Bitur. Elfstan looking for any other creatures following the troll, sees none and delivers a strike with Sting behind the trolls knee. The three archers continue to shoot high and several arrows hit. Ghân lights the foe in Faerie Fire.
As this is happening 5 large orcs charge up the passage Mulligan is guarding. Deor casts Sleep and drops three of them. A group of Dwarves have a shield wall that the remaining two run up against. The fighting is fierce but one goes down as Mulligan hits him in the back of the head with a bullet from her sling.
The dwarves should be able to take care of the remaining Orc as well as those sleeping. Nice one Deor
Mulligan will slip back down to the other two doors to make sure there are no more surprises coming through.
Thoroncir continues to hew at the troll. Elendil!
