Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

Hraedsig seems distracted for a moment when he notices the orcs, but he quickly regains focus on the enormous foe in front of him. He raises his shield and prepares for anther attack.

Ghân is happy that his Faerie Fire is the best he can do against a mighty Troll. He will Cure Light Wounds if our brave Fighters take damage from it.
Otherwise he will watch carefully for trouble elsewhere, with Summon Insects as his likely response.

Good work, all. Stay close together, you on the troll. Shield-wall, hold your positions. Elbereth!

Gwaelur will continue to work on the troll going after him ferociously. He’s glad to be back in the fray and not thinking about what it was like to have his soul being torn apart.

The Dwarves make short work of the last Orc leader.

The troll drops his hammer on Thoroncir for 17 points. The troll is now easier to hit though and 6 more arrows, two axes and two swords go into his flesh as several shields batter him. He is wobbly as Sting again finds it mark and he goes over backwards. He is quickly finished.

It grows quiet in the room again but Sting is still glowing as is the dead Troll of course.

The party has a chance to reorganize. Ghân & Gilraen each do cure lights on Thoroncir and heal him.

As quiet as we can, everyone, and let those who have trained ears put them to work to see if we can tell what Sting’s glow might be all about.

Those who are of a mind can have a quick check for valuables, but don’t let your guard down.

“Many thanks, Ghan, my lady,” Thoroncir says, nodding to both with a smile. He will stand guard as others check the fallen troll and goblins.

Bitur will join Throncir in standing guard.

Ghân is also on alert, but mutters to Thoroncir “As we Woses say, some are harp-shifters and some are harp-players.”

Thoroncir takes off his helmet briefly to scratch his nose, and says with a grin to his Wose friend, “And still others are harp-listeners, as I am pleased to count myself when our Elf-captain shares his songs with us.”

[keen-eared Elf]That must be the shortest Wose proverb ever.[/keE]

Mulligan will go and listen at the door and secret door to see if anything can be heard.

Ghân looks embarrassed. He admits that was a shortened version.

Sit down, everyone. Comfy? OK. Ghan, please tell us the full version. :stuck_out_tongue:

It stays quiet for a good 10 minutes. What is next? Rüdan suggests looking for the next troll while leaving most of the Dwarves here to hold.

Agreed. Let us find the remaining troll! We should take as many dwarves as possible though leaving only what is necessary to hold the area.

Ghân suggests that our expert Scouts could check the side corridors and doors while the main party stands ready to support them.

N.B. In the 10 minutes of quiet, he takes a moment to prepare then mutters the full version:

“For fun, we Woses like to relax with a game where two teams try to carry a ball (made out of leather and a boar’s bladder) across the line into enemy territory. One way is to charge forward, supported by several teammates and push against the opposing Woses. The other is to commit an opponent into tackling you, but then to slip the boar’s bladder ball to a friend alongside you.
These two methods remind us of the way that Woses prepare for music events, with some carrying in the instruments and some delighting us (like Gil-Gandel) with their performance.
So, as we Woses say, some are harp-shifters and some are harp-players…”

Ghân looks around a little nervously, as it often happens that when he tells the full version, his listeners drift away (or fall asleep).

Expert Scout number 1 reporting for duty. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll take the south wall with Miron as backup, and Elfstan can take the North Wall with Brin.

Should be fun.

“Ghân, we Rohirrim have a similar game…
Only we play it on horseback.”

Where does Mulligan start? Elfstan will take the door the troll broke.

Will Gil-Gandel explore another way? If so who will he take?

Rüdan volunteers, “I think I can track the troll pretty well if you want me to take that one Elfstan. Give me some less stealthy fighters and we should be fine.”
