Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

Mullilgan will start with the door the Orc came through that was backstabbed.

Bitur and his clanking Dwarven plate will offer to accompany Rudan as one of the least stealthy fighters in the party.

Deor will stay here where it’s safe; he has no need to go exploring dark tunnels, and will leave that to those suited to it.

Thoroncir will stay near Gilraen unless she bids him go with Rudan.

Ghân says it’s decent of Rudan to volunteer, but maybe we could do some stealthy scouting first?

Rüdan, “But there are 6 passages or doors. Wouldn’t more scouting parties be better?”

I’m waiting on Gil-Gandel to see if we have two or three scouts.

Clarification: Mulligan’s orcs came out of the passage on the south wall.

Ghän’s idea is that we discover trouble before it finds us*.
By being stealthy, we can focus on the opposition.
If we explore all 6 options simultaneously, we split our forces.

*there is a Wose saying for this, but Ghân can’t remember all of it.

I tell you what, let me start on the door in the south wall.

A few of the dwarves can take apart that secret door and see what is behind it.

Leave the 2 passageways blocked up with some more dwarves.

Elfstan takes one of the doors in the North wall and the Gil-Gandel checks the other.

Rudan scouts around looking for the troll and gets an idea which way it went.

We meet in 5-10 mins and then decide having seen what is out there.

Don’t forget to man/elf/dwarf the ballistas in case of incoming enemies.

The Dwarves prepare heavy crossbows to guard the two passages and other load and ready the ballistae and dart throwers. Another small group begins figuring out the secret door. A small knot of the party and Gellin, Sten, Jari & Víli are ready to rush where needed. Thoroncir will be at the front and Jari & Víli at the rear.

Elfstan and Brin check the door that is still closed on the north wall (the middle one). They find it locked but Elfstan makes short work of it. He found no traps. The pair find a passage 30’ long leading to stairs down. The stairs drop 20’ hit a landing and a passage runs under the main chamber. They follow this dark passage with Sting’s light and find several doors. Sting does not get brighter. They return to the main chamber.

Mulligan and Miron take the central door in the south. Mulligan removes her wedges and the door is unlocked. They head through and find a 5’ passage that leads to a well lit room. In the room is a Troll that immediately throws a huge spear at lantern holder. Mulligan is pierced for 14 despite her small size and Galvorn chain. They retreat rapidly yell for help.

Gil-Gandel takes the door that was broken but allows Rüdan take a quick look first support by Gwaelur, Bitur, Nolí and Hraedsig. Gil-Gandel will check any side passages off the tracked route and Rüdan will not go far. They go cautiously and hear the call for help.

That troll just hit me.

:frowning:

I FOUND THE TROLL!!

RUN!!!

Ghân looks a little smug as his strategy suggestion is justified.

Hearing the cry of ‘I FOUND THE TROLL!!’, he is ready with a Faerie Fire and a Cure Light Wounds.

As soon as possible, form up Hraedsig, Thoroncir, Gwaelur and Bitur, and stand by to give them fire support. There should be little doubt what direction this is needed from. On hearing the cry of “Troll!” I’ll be back as fast as my feet can carry me, which as all will know is pretty darn fast.

Thoroncir has his longsword drawn, shield up and is ready for action.

Hraedsig forms up right beside him.

And Gwaelur as well

The party forms up but oddly the troll does not come out.

“So the troll doesn’t feel like walking into an ambush. Looks like we’ll have to take the fight to him. How do we want to handle this?”

Could our archers step to the doorway and let fly, but be ready to step back when (not if) the troll charges?

Might be good to step back after firing, seeing as the troll may throw something else. Could Gwaelur step out with his shield and cover an archer, then dart back at the same time?

Mulligan heads out holding her side where she has been injured by the spear, looking unhappy. Moving to somewhere quieter, she takes the Galvorn chain off to see what damage has been caused.
