Well Elfstan was going up the other flight of stairs.
And given how narrow those flights of stairs are, I think you would be better off here Gilraen. Although if Elfstan is in trouble, your assistance may be exceedingly useful.
Both knives are magical, in fact very magical. The three doors are not, nor is the room. (Is there anything else the party has gathered that I forgot?)
Ghân has little problem with the passage. Gilraen has called for the Hobbit. He is Sandy Proudfoot and young blond haired archer and only stands 3’6". He would be happy to help.
BTW: Gilraen is only 5’2" any very lithe and thin. As per Elendil’s Heir she is envisioned to look much like Kiera Knightly.
Sandy greets everyone and especially Deor, “Are you an actual Wizard? Wow, did you know Gandalf? You look so young, is that from a spell? Do you do fireworks?”
Sandy, “Hi, your Peregrin’s niece aren’t you? The one that saved Thain Faramir as a mere tween? It is an honor to help you. I am really good with my bow and it is extra small. So why don’t I just follow you and we’ll see what happens?”
The three head up Mulligan, Sandy Proudfoot and Ghân head up the stairs. Mulligan moves quickly to try and find Elfstan. They go about 200’ fast and Mulligan halts the three. She hears Elfstan grunting in pain up ahead. He can’t be more than another 60’ away.
Meanwhile Gil-Gandel begins checking the doors with the Dwarves helping. Only the middle door appears to have been used recently and all three doors open into the room. They don’t appear to be locked or trapped.
Sandy to Mulligan looking askance at Thoroncir, “Was that man actually mocking my Great-Grandfather? He was a little drunk and it happened nearly 100 years ago. What’s the big deal?”
Mulligan moved ahead in full stealth. Sandy stays well behind but moves very quietly. Ghân stays even further back.
Mulligan spies a larger alcove with 3 goblins questioning and prodding Elfstan who is injured and tied up. One goblin has a sharp awl and is threatening to poke out Elfstan’s eyes. They are demanding he talks. The situation looks bleak.
At the door, Thoroncir pulls it open and looks past the door and sees a small goblin crew with a loaded small ballista and a few crossbows. What does the party do?
Mulligan heads back to the others and lets them know what is going on.
*Elfstan’s down, there are three goblins. Ghan take care of the one with the awl. I’m sure Elfstan does not want to lose his sight just yet. Sandy, you cover me. I’m going to run interference, to try and get between them and Elfstan. If I do manage it, grab him and run. You too Ghan, I’ll hold them off with this Injection Dagger
Better put this thing on as well. You had better be worth it Elfstan.*
I assume the goblins with the ballista have seen us? And where is everybody located relative to where Elfstan is? We may have to fight two battles here so that we can save Elfstan but not be flanked by the other set of goblins.
Well, he was little, and he was drunk, but from the looks of it he was NOT a “little drunk.”
Elfstan and his two-Hobbit, one-Wose rescue party are now one level up from the rest of the party, right?
If the goblins have seen the party, Thoroncir, shield held up, cries, "With me, friends, with me! Elendil!" He charges through the door and hacks away at the goblins.
If the goblins haven’t noticed yet, Thoroncir will silently gesture for Hraedsig and Gwaelur to join him in the front rank, and will count down on his fingers before whipping the door wide open so that we can all go through quickly without becoming lodged, Three Stooges-style, in it.
Thinking to himself that a headlong rush is probably not the best way to go about it, Deor will help hold the door open before he uses it as a shield (assuming it opens inward).
Ghân will (as requested) take on the Goblin with the awl.
He whispers to Mulligan that he needs a few seconds preparation to get his Summon Insects spell running. He assures Mulligan that this is going to scare goblins even more than a venomous dagger!
He confirms that he can control his spell and carry Elfstan simultaneously - so Sandy can keep guard with his bow.
