Yes, and this worries me. I’m sure we can beat them, but we haven’t used invisibility much so far, have we?. Why did it occur to them to prepare for it? It’s probably a coincidence, but it’s vaguely possible that we’re being spied on somehow. Let’s be careful.
Well, perhaps Ghân could do something about that wooden barricade - burn it down, maybe.
Or we could abandon all pretense at subtlety and have Deor Fireball the dart-thrower crews and see if he can blow down the barricade too. DM, will a Fireball at the intersection blast back up the passageway, and how far? Or do we have no idea?
These are pretty amped-up fireballs, but that’s a big passage and no one would get the direct blast from it.
Nitpickity discussion of fireballs in other thread.
Clever: the passage you are in is only 4’ wide so the distance from Dart Throwers to the barricade is only 28’ and fireball has a 40’ diameter and so Deor just needs to be over 40’ back to be perfectly safe in case of odd affects. The goblins and their trap should be toast.
Naturally.
Did Mulligan see anything in the passage opposite the barricade?
Here is a map, the Goblins are opposite each other in the large hall.
So where would the party be on that map - at the bottom?
Thoroncir’s mailed hand is on the hilt of his longsword, but he reminds himself to let the Dwarves have a chance for glory before he goes charging into the fray once more.
Somehow I don’t think we are the only group using invisibility down here, other groups having being using scouts in the same way during this siege.
I didn’t see anything further down there, because I wanted to make sure the group stopped in advance.
If you want, give me five mins and I will go and eavesdrop on them and see how nervous they are. Just don’t fireball me while I am down there.
The party starts is 60’ behind the intersection. Mulligan is at the intersection.
Rüdan says, “Delay is a bad idea, they heard us coming and discussed it already from what you just reported.”
Ghân votes for the Fireball for several reasons:
- this looks a well-organised ambush and we don’t know what little surprises they may have for us (poisoned weapons? reinforcements?)
- it takes out a lot of opponents
- Fireball is notorious for including the party in its area of effect (here we know where to safely stand)
Hraedsig yells really loud: “Hey, what’s going on up there. Why’d we stop??”
(just kidding!)
I’m on guard in case there is a ambush from the rear. I’ll let the smart folks up front decide how to proceed unless someone calls for my help.
I like Fireball as an idea. Swift, effective and should at least clear the area.
Once Deor has launched it, I’ll check the area to make sure it safe, before some of the dwarves move in too clear up.
I’ll get an arrow ready. I believe this will shock and awe our enemies, but we must be ready to capitalize on it swiftly.
By all means, blast 'em.
All right, let’s do this. Stand back, everyone.
As far as I can see Deor casts Fireball at 8th level and do +1HP/Die and cast quicker.
The fireball does 33 and goblins scream.
Mulligan looks around the corner as sees the dart throwers are smoking and the barricade is burning and pikes burnt and broken. He sees only dead goblins. No wait one large Goblin is badly singed and looks stunned.
Reminder for Rorimac: Once you attack the Invisibility is gone. So hold off as long as possible to act as a scout.
And a small smile forms on the lips of Hraedsig.
Nice work Deor. Gwaelur is ready to head around the corner.
I have no objection to mercifully sending the singed, stunned goblin to join his fellows, though someone else will get there first, I’m sure.
