Let’s not take any risks on burying our scouts alive. It may be pressure-sensitive, rather than triggered by a living hand.
I would suggest collapsing the tunnel before heading off in a different direction.
Who knows, we may return here from the other side if we do.
Ghân agrees with Mulligan about collapsing the tunnel.
The residents know it’s a trap, whereas we might enter it from a different direction…
Bitur concurs. The tunnel should be collapsed. The only people it is a threat to are our allies.
The Dwarves quickly work on collapsing the tunnel. It won’t take much and they are regularly collapsing tunnels throughout Goblin Gate and its mines.
It takes roughly 20 minutes to get everything ready and they set it up for a 5 minute period to pull back. The small series of explosions sets off a satisfying rumble and collapse.
Where next?
Ghân has been thinking for a bit.
“Presumably they spotted the trap using ‘tunnel vision’!”
(Wose humour at its best)
didn’t see that one coming
How about back to the passageway with the secret door. We still have to check the door out and go further down the passage.
Agreed.
Do we leave a guard behind at the intersection or not bother? The Dwarves usually leave guards behind, but they are not use to the fire power of the group.
We might as well. If for no other reason than they could run a message outside or replace a slightly wounded comrade if need be.
Agreed. Let’s go.
The group spends the next 5 hours hunting around and finding stray goblins or small pockets. Then they are summoned by horn call and make their way to a lower level. The Dwarves have found a small pocket of undead and hoped you could root it out. The party heads out to get Gilraen. The see the main passages have already been well secured and lit. Gilraen has been busy most of the day with Miron and other healers. The wounded are down to a trickle at this point and the losses are very low today. Elrohir has seen to Elfstan and did a small additional healing and declared he would recover within days.
It is nearly 7pm when the party approached the small den of undead, backed up by the most of the dwarves from before. The party enters a wide deep hall that is not of Goblin or Dwarven Craft. The Dwarves had blown up the great doors leading into the chamber and then ran when they found what was beyond. One Dwarf had his life partially drained. (Gwaelur’s Helm is charged) The chamber is 100’ long and 30’ wide. It is vaulted and rises in a curved ceiling to 20’ tall. The entire room has an eldritch green glow and is oppressive. The party approaches from the south in a strong defensive formation with the Dwarves guarding the rear. The room appears bare. When the party enters the chamber a horrible howling begins and a fearful shape flies at the front of the party.

Gwaelur, Gilraen, smite this foul apparition with all the power you have! Ghân, a Faerie Fire might be a good start. Front rank, rally to me and make room for me front and centre, Hraedsig, the closer you are to me the better I will like it.
draws swords
Naur di deloth! Fire against this abhorrence!
Thoroncir’s happiness at once more seeing his true love is offset by his concern for her safety in the face of this evil from beyond the grave. His Numenorean longsword once more aglow, the knight-errant remains in line with his comrades and prepares to do battle. He is confident of their eventual triumph, but takes nothing for granted. Elendil!
Rorimac draws back an arrow and gets ready to fight. “Beware! Keep your wits sharp! This may be a distraction!”
“This concentrated Evil makes my teeth ache. Time for a root canal!” [draws sword]*
I’m not going to even bother trying to Turn this monstrosity. I will attempt to hit it with my sword. If that fails like last time, I will sheathe the sword, and stay close to Gil-Gandel with shield raised.
- Sorry that’s not really middle-earth-esque, but I couldn’t resist.
Gwaelur blasts the creature with his helm.
“Gilraen if you can recharge me as soon as possible that would be fantastic.”
Ghân casts Faerie Fire on the shape.
Well, a Magic Missile rarely goes amiss.
Gwaelur flashes Rilthol and the apparition disappears, revealed by the brilliant light are 8 frightening Wights chanting in the shadows of the arches. Gilraen casts **a light spell **into Rilthol.
Gil-Gandel’s swords flame up and he marches forward Thoroncir and Hraedsig on the nearest Wrights to the left. Gil-Gandel strikes twice and does 27 damage.
Hraedsig’s Bastard sword strikes the foe and finishes it off.
Thoroncir reaches the next and Cirist slashes through the Wight destroying it.
The nearest Wight to the right takes a pair of Chalcedony stones and 2 of 3 +2 arrows that Rorimac fired. The Hobbits end a Wight.
Bitur forms a long shield wall with Gwaelur and the other Dwarves keeping the spellcasters safe. He fires a single +2 crossbow at the next Wight to the right but misses. It is joined by 2 Mithril bolts from Gwaelur where one hits for 15 and 6 more bolts fly but only 2 hit. The Wight takes 22 total.
Deor fires 3 magic missiles into the injured Wight and drops it.
Ghân lights up the last two Wights on the left with Faerie Fire. This makes them easier to hit as they and the other two move towards the party. One attacks Thoroncir but misses twice. Hraedsig and Gil-Gandel move swiftly to aid him.
The two on the right are closing on the Dwarves.
