Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

The few Elves in camp and many of the Human and Hobbits are quite taken by the song. One young Hobbit is crying, it is Sandy who you have already met. When asked what is wrong he blubbers, “They all plan to go eventually, they will leave this world of ours for their own and no longer will we have the fair folk about to remind us of beauty and wisdom lost.”

Mulligan’s Shining black Galvorn Chainmail is fine. Ghân is able with Deor’s help to make more of the paralysis dosages.

Elfstan calls Mulligan over, “I had a series of dreams while I laid suffering and recovering. Kkósal baneneeds a new bearer, I think you are meant to find the bearer. I am done in this war and it is time for me to return home when the rest of our people do. Forgive me but I’m don’t have my full sense of balance back. Sting of course returns with me, I may use it again or it might be for my son to be.”

I’ll miss you Elfstan, we had fun together.

I’ll find a new bearer for this blade, because Valar knows I would have real trouble wielding it.

It’s a bit bigger than I am used to.

Who knows, you may return to claim it one day, but when this is over, we can sit and tell stories of what we did.

Ghân expects that Dispel Magic and Stone Shape will be the most useful dealing with the Stone Tomb.

The Valar go with you, Elfstan Fairbairn, and your days be long in the kindly Shire. If I am passing, I shall certainly come and see you.

As for me, young Sandy, it will be soon indeed - soon as Elves reckon it, at least; perhaps people will still be quoting “Proudfeet!” to each other as if it were the grandest jest (for light words linger long when they are spoken on the fringe of great events, and in other company old Odo’s grammatical corrections would have gone unremarked) - when I take ship into the West. But there are still some wonders East of the Sea I would see first, and I think I shall remain at least as long as the King Elessar sits upon his throne.

Glorfindel, “Thank you Ghân, those spells sound most useful. I know somewhat of what Mages can do but your order of Tree Sorcerers is new to me. Those spells sound mighty useful by name alone.”

He wanders over to Gil-Gandel, “You may be needed here longer than the Reign of King Elessar. Some Elves at least must stay longer and you will not rise to the Rank of Master Bard in the West. These shores and their lands will offer far more in experience and adventure than studying the ancient lore well studied.”

Ah, Glorfindel, I fear your keen eyes pierce acutely to the heart of my vanity, for if I have any longing that can rank with the desire to gaze upon the peerless face of Elbereth, it is the hubristic ambition to be known as the greatest harper of the Fourth Age. When I meet those who saw the Light that was before the Sun and the Moon, I should like to have something to say to them.

Bitur aids Gwaelur in any armor repair, being an armorer himself. He’ll also tell some stories about life under the mountain and what’s transpired in it and Dale during the time Bitur spent retired from adventuring.

Certainly. I don’t know if I can get to it today, but if I can, then I’ll certainly do it. 11 GP per dose, I believe, was what we settled on last time.

Burglar magic today, I suppose.

3: Dispel Magic

I will practice with my swords and do a bit of juggling with my set of dwarf-made brass orbs. It keeps the wrists and hands strong.

Thoroncir says to Gil-Gandel, “Thank you, O Elf-captain, for that lovely song. Well done, as always. May you have many more years of both adventure and song ahead of you on this side of the Great Sea and, if you will have me, may I ever remain close at hand to enjoy both!”

To Elfstan, the knight-errant says, “Must you truly return to the Shire, my friend? Can this be our parting, now, so soon? Alas, the roads will be longer and the firelit nights less merry if you are not here to share them with us. But if you must perforce take your leave, much as it pains me, then go in peace, to a time of deeper healing and perfect health, surrounded by your kinsmen, and of course be assured of the love and affection of all those here with whom you have ventured thus far. Fare well, most estimable Hobbit!”

The Man of Gondor finds that there is something in his eye, and turns away…

“It’s a shame to see you go, Elfstan, and I’ll miss you. Health, luck, and happiness go with you.”

Elfstan to all, “Good luck to all of you, but as I won’t be traveling for at least a few more days, I should see you at least one more time. Keep safe on all your adventures.”

7:00 am on September 6th
There was time to refresh invisibilities if needed. Ghân was able to get slight ahead on Goodberries and now has 48.

Glorfindel will lead the party down. It is the party, the Dwarves from before and another pair of quiet Elf. Celestir of Rivendell and Rúmil of Lothlórien. They will guard the rear as the second rearmost rank and speak rarely. In fact Rúmil speaks only Sindarin.

The party makes it back to the ancient chamber with no problems in about an hour at about 8:00 am.

Glorfindel, Celestir & Rúmil
Mulligan, Rorimac, *Gwaelur, *Bitur, Thoroncir, Gilraen, Gil-Gandel, Ghân, Deor, Hraedsig
Rüdan, Jari, Víli, Múli , Afi, Hvatar , Vakr, Sparr , Gautor , Sölvi , Sörli, Karfi , Kenton, Nolí , Óttarr, Rafin, Áki, Tobbe, Gedda & Fridi

Glorfindel would like Ghân to use his magic to remove stone around the slab on the West side to allow the Dwarves to stick their long levers in for lifting. He wants Deor to Identify the magic. That would be more important than the Dispel if it is one or the other. He, Thoroncir, Hraedsig will stand nearby and ready to fight anything that comes out.

Most of the Dwarves and Celestir and Rúmil will spread out and guard the chamber while we are working. Gwaelur, Bitur and Rorimac will guard the Dwarves working and Gil-Gandel and Mulligan you stand by with magic arrows and stones in case you are needed. Múli , Afi, Hvatar , Vakr, Sparr & Gautor will be doing the rigging and levering work.

Is this acceptable to everyone?

Certainly, if Gilraen is not too exposed to danger. Thoroncir draws his longsword and stands at the ready.

Ghân will happily do as Glorfindel suggests and Stone Shapes away, guided by the Dwarves.

Since he is not good versus Undead, he will then retreat and prepare to Cure, Faerie Fire or Dispel Magic.

I’ll happily chat to Rúmil on the way up - I know that name.

As to the plan, it works fine for me.

Sounds good although if nothing does jump out, Thoroncir should be able to give advance warning, then I would like to check it out for traps.

Just in case.

Rúmil is quiet and closed mouth even in Sindarin. Gil-Gandel is like a Hobbit to an Elf in your brief conversation with him.

Bitur is fine with the plan as described.

Hraedsig has been ready to banish this Evil since he first Detected it. He is eager to fight alongside Glorfindel.
