Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game. Fourth Adventure. Journey to Rivendell

What is the plan with using me as decoy? Are we doing that still?

For now I think we need to see if his cry for help was heard.

Having not gotten to use his rope, Elfstan will fade into the shadows at the edge of our camp facing the direction of the bandits. He still has his weapon drawn and concealed under his cloak.

Sorry. I asked because I wanted to know where I was durring all of this. If I was with the group but unarmed or somewhere else and armed.

I had gotten characters mixed up when I made that post anyway. :smack:

The spy is quiet, he begs, “Please let me live, I mean no harm, I was just hungry and hoping I might be able to beg some scraps of food.”

Elfstan notes that his boots are in surprisingly good shape for a begger and beggers usually do not carry short swords and short bows.

Brownie comes racing in, “Ghân, they pack quickly, should I return?”

The Dwarves arm up to full, stoke fires and build a circle around equines. **Curunauth **pulls on his armor and has a pulls a hammer and short sword from his gear.
**Lorliana **looks nervous and asks, “What should I do?”
**Gilraen **waits.

We never progressed with the decoy idea for Gwaelur so he is ready.

Should the Hobbits join the Elves?

Deor, woken by the commotion, stands, gathers his mallorn staff and looks to the defense. Ideally, he’d like to use Web to guard the party’s flanks and Sleep to catch any groupings of enemies if a fight occurs. He’ll also try to conceal himself after casting Web to cover our flanks, so that the party might not need to guard him. He’ll also cast a couple of Distracts as far off to the party’s left and right as possible to catch the brigands’ attention if there are more scouts, warning the sharp-eared elves and hobbits what he’s done.

“Lorliana, hide near me- if we’re in the same place, the party will have an easier time guarding us. Could I boost you into a tree, perhaps? If you’ve got anything on your or any skills that might help the party, this would be a good time to mention it.”

No convenient trees are about.

Then Deor will try to conceal Lorliana on the ground with his cloak and pack, trying to make her look like another piece of luggage.

:smack: I thought the spell was just on the guy, and wasn’t “sticky.”

Thoroncir will guard the prisoner while the Elves (and, I would suggest, the Hobbits) venture forth to see what other folks might be out there.

It sounds like they might be ready to take flight. If we want to save future travelers, we should make haste!

Indeed, although I don’t think that we’ve established much about their intentions, and so I’m still about worried about how we might stop them without employing lethal force.

Renee, “Sleeps and Entangles are non-lethal.”

“That sounds as if it could work,” Miron agrees, “But if we’re going to try, we should do it quickly: once they manage to pack up camp they’ll likely move in single or double-file, which will make it much harder to pick off a decent number of them in a single spell.”

Renee, “Let the Elves go swiftly then and the rest of the party should be prepared to follow. Ghân and Deor, can you send Brownie and Folca out again to relay information? We don’t need Folca’s eyes in this case, so perhaps she can just follow one of the elves.”

Folca will stick with Gil-Gandel, ready to convey information quickly.

With our party’s rangers and other quick moving scouts, we could set up an ambush ahead of them, especially if they are on the move quickly. Deor will move forward and cast Sleep if Gil-Gandel, Ghan, Fang, or someone else handy will serve as a guard.

Renee, “If the is the plan, I think the spell casters could be escorted by Ghân’s canine friends and Gwaelur and Thoroncir.”

Gilraen’s become quite the assertive young lady, hasn’t she?

Thoroncir will go forward with Deor and guard him, if someone else will remain behind to watch our prisoner. The Knight-errant suggests that the Elves and Hobbits make haste to find our hidden maybe-foes.

If Swift Wing thinks that he can navigate in the dark well enough to quickly find the rest of the party Miron will ask the goshawk to accompany him, so that the advance and rear groups both have a fast mode of communication.

Assuming preparations have been completed to Gil’s satisfaction, Miron is ready to try and re-acquire the bandit party, although he recommends that the scouts stay reasonably close together as they move.

Ghân informs the party what Brownie told him and asks Brownie to go back and forth reporting.
However Brownie should take care and not risk being shot at.

Ghân smiles at Renee. “Your intentions are good, lady - but let us agree on our actions!”

If the Dwarves and Curunauth are staying here with the horses, then Ghân suggests they can also guard the tied-up prisoner and look after Lorliana.

Anca and Fang will guard Ghân and adjacent casters as always, so our estimable Scouts just need to state whether they want Ghân and Deor to try to capture some of the intruders using Entangle and Sleep (or whether the Scouts will go for their own attacks)…

DM, does Ghân’s Spellstone speed up spells cast from Ghân’s mind? (If they are the same as was stored in the Stone).

No only the spells cast into it, the speed is basically from it storing an already casted spell.
