Great map!
With some pretty good success in catching the bandits, Deor will sit back in the bush and let someone else take the initiative in moving into the camp, just in case we missed something.

If the last in camp yields to Thoroncir, Elfstan will begin disarming the sleeping bandits.
Looks like there is one heading south east for the elves to chase.
The final brigand? in the camp looks hesitant at the shout to “Yield”. He then stands up and raises his arms. "I surrender, please don’t hurt me. "
Thoroncir will cover Elfstan as the Hobbit searches and disarms all of the suspected brigands. He says sternly, “I am Sir Thoroncir, Knight-errant of Gondor and Linhir, and I will enforce the King’s peace here. Having yielded, you are now safe. Resist or try to escape, however, and it will go badly for you. Now answer truthfully as you value your freedom. Who are you, and what are you doing here?”
Any of our party want to do a Detect Alignment on them? Who wants to go after the person fleeing to the southeast?
Elfstan, want to look through their stuff? Anything particularly suspicious?
I thought that Ghan’s puppies were going after them, but if they aren’t, Miron and/or Gil would probably be decent choices for a job that entails quietly sprinting after someone in the woods at night.
The canines and Elves race after the final brigand. Fang swiftly get around in front and lets out a large growl. The brigand stops short and swiftly pulls out his short sword. Anca bowls him over grabbing the brigand’s arm and clamps down until the sword is dropped.
At this point Gil-Gandel and Miron show up.
The Hobbits tie up the prisoners except those in the entangle. There are 5 in the entangle. Ghân will need to handle them.
The lead prisoner in answer to Thoroncir, “We are camping, why have you attacked us?”
Gilraen casts Detect Evil and reports that the leader and 6 others are evil.
Oi! Stop ordering my bodyguards about! :smack:
Does Elfstan find anything interesting on them?
“Ghan, when you get your pups back could we get you to get these fellows out of your vines please? I don’t think Thoroncir wants to try again.”
Let’s slow down here- these brigands, though evil, haven’t actually done anything wrong yet. They considered it, they planned to, but they didn’t actually hurt anybody or try to do so. I don’t think we can possibly do anything other than confiscate their weapons, and even that’s a stretch- we’re not traffic cops here. We hold no position of authority in Gondor, do we?
Actually Princess Gilraen and to a lesser degree Sir Thoroncir do. On the other hand, neither has any experience in using their position of authority.
A questioning is quite in order and what to do with the evil folk is going to be the 64 Gold Piece Question.
Elfstan has not had enough time for a thorough check yet, but the leader had a large sack that on investigation reveals a surprising number and varieties of purses and pouches.
We can’t very well keep them with us can we? And heading back and setting them free both seem like bad ideas.
A little good cop bad cop to find out what they were up to? Maybe once we find out we will have a better idea of how to deal with them.
“Camping? Why would you camp out here?” Thoroncir asks, raising an eyebrow. “And why do you have so many purses and pouches? Were I a suspicious man, I might think you had taken them from others through theft or by other unlawful means.”
He asks Elfstan, and anyone else who’s willing, to look more thoroughly through the mens’ gear.
Like the DM said, two of the party members not only have the authority, in fact the King’s Justice is their responsibility. It sounds to me like Gondor just got some new recruits for the road crew. That said, this could be quite a time waster and bother. We will probably have to do something like take them to the nearest outpost capable of handling this many prisoners. Let’s hope one is on the way!
Questioning probably falls to Sir Thoroncir (or Gil-Gandel as party leader), since Renee is still incognito, right?
Elfstan begins checking through their things more carefully.
Gilraen to Gwaelur as a whispered aside, “This is why I liked the idea of a decoy, it would have removed all doubt. Still evil and probably brigands will be hard to let go. Let’s see what unfolds.”
The Leader to Thoroncir, “We are but a poor folk and between seasonal work we must make do selling used goods and the products of our woman’s handicraft. Surely there is nothing wrong in what we do?”
The Hobbits begin a more detailed search and examination. The purses and pouches have varying amounts of wear and many still have coins within them. Oddly, many have blood stains. Two of the campers have small collections of gold teeth and most packs have some odd belonging in them. One contains some letters that on examination appear to be between many different people of Gondor and Rohan. Another has some mixed pieces of a womans dressing set. Combs, brushes, mirrors and other odds and ends.
The elves bring back the stray and of course there is still the one at the camp. So 14 prisoners in all.
Do any of the party or NPCs know of reports of people going missing in this area?
No, but the Dwarves did seem very eager for protection, so perhaps they know of such reports.
Better ask Haro Timon’s son over, then, and see what he has to say.
Gil-Gandel returns to check on the Dwarves and haul back the prisoner and ask Haro son of Tamin to return to help in the questioning.
They toss the prisoner over a pony and on the way, Haro related that there has indeed been problems in both Stonewaith Valley and the West Road until the Firien Woods. He knows at least one small party of Dwarves went missing. They were on foot and returning to Aglarond but there was only 4 of them and they were not well armed or armored. They were carrying mail for Edoras and Aglarond at the time.
Assuming Gil doesn’t mind, Miron would like to head back to the bandit camp during the interrogation and make a thorough sweep of the area for extra tracks, stragglers, or anything else that seems out of place.
Not only do I not mind, I would positively encourage you to exercise your abilities to the limit.
