Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game, the Game itself

Ghân asks who can check the final passage. Maybe the scouts? **The Scouts need to answer. **

We should put the orc prisoners somewhere secure and reassure the freed humans. Where would they like to go to?
The Human start naming off where they came from, one older woman suggests, “I think you should escort us back to the House of Healing in Minas Tirith”.

I’ll keep track of the treasure (unless someone else really wants to!)
That is great, but are you sure you want to do this with the game you need to ref?

Since Moose has to stay outside, and he’s tireless, how about if he goes back to guide Gimli and Merry?
Moose in moose to Ghân, “I don’t know where to look and I will be spending much of tonight foraging and napping, however I nap lightly and no one will sneak past me at least”.

Before this combat, Ghân had 7 herbal cures, plus 4-5 foraged ones.
I think he could have used 3 on Theogrim, 2 on Gwaelur and 1 on Deor (each one doing 2hp).
(He also had 7hp from Goodberries to share out.)
**Healing time: **
**Brin ** takes a Goodberries and is down 7 total
Deor Takes one Goodberries & 3 herbal cures 1 total
Theogrim Takes one Goodberries & 3 herbal cures 21 total
Gwaelur Takes one Goodberries & 2 herbal cures 10 total
Thoroncir Takes one Goodberries 8 total
Mulligan 1 total
Moose 6 total
2 Goodberries & 1 herbal cure left. (You could use the last on Brin or Thoroncir)
You might want to give the 2 last Goodberries to the two women in the worst shape. You can start preparing the foraged ones or try to get to sleep to sooner recover your spell powers.

Thoroncir will check the as-yet-unsearched tunnel, sword drawn, before being healed by Ghan, thanking his Wose friend for his kindness. He is willing to go back on foot to Gimli and the others; or perhaps Folca might carry a written message back more swiftly and safely? Thoroncir has quills, ink and paper, if needed. He will politely ask the names and cities/villages/towns/provinces of the freed captives, for inclusion in the note.

glee’s questions for the prisoners are right on the mark.

I’ll lend a hand searching the other tunnel as well, if Gil-Gandel wants to set up a temporary base here to get everyone settled in. Another person along would be useful, just in case.

I would suggest sending Folca as the quickest method of getting a message to the others, but please be careful.

Oh and I really would not suggest eating any of the food in here? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll write a message and send it with Folca. What should I write and who should I address it to?

Gimli is the highest-ranked, he has the ear of the King himself. (So does Merry but with no disrespect to the Brandybuck, I should think he is exhausted by now.) Be brief: say “Enemies found and all defeated, captives rescued, no losses, returning tomorrow with prisoners.”

Small correction: Deor got one Goodberry for 1 and one Herbal for 2, leaving him down 1.

I’ll give the two Goodberries to the women (1 each) and the last herbal (for 2) to Thoroncir.
I’ll ask the party if I can get to sleep, because then I have 5 CLW / Goodberry spells (7 if they don’t want me to cast Neutralise Poison or Summon Insects). The 4 herbal cures (for 2hp each) can be prepared later tomorrow…

The Prisoner is simple this time. The Uruk-Hai leader will give no answers and is struggling with his bounds. What else do you try?

Mulligan & Thoroncir will check the last passage, anyone else, it appears unclear.

Folca will look first for the party lead by Gimli and Caramir and then fly on to the company on the road that Merry was riding back to.
Ghân used all of his curing and then will settle down to sleep. Deor must stay awake until Folca returns. Then he can rest.

A tight passage is usually a good place for a Dwarf, you might want to take Gwaelur

To the uruk: "I advise you to be still, or we will be forced to find some means of subduing you. The Wild Man, for instance, has much knowledge of herbs and little love for gorgun. I further advise you to loosen your tongue, for if not we, some others may loosen it for you. You have taken arms and violated the peace of Gondor, and you stand in great danger. Speak when you are spoken to, and you may be sure that the King will give you no worse than you deserve; probably better.

“This I will grant: you fought like no coward. But there is a time, a place and a means for demonstrating courage, and this is none of them.”

Well said, Malacandra. Gwaelur would be most welcome as we search the last passage.

Sorry to interrupt, but in his sleep Ghân is dreaming of party treasure (and returning to the Yew tree for Gil-Gandel’s arrows - by the way I assume that Warp Wood is of no use in making arrow shafts?)

Have I got this right?
So far we have found this treasure:

Orcs; 1st combat:

 • 30 Gold, 115 Silver and 144 Copper

 • six short bows, six score quivers, 102 arrows, six good wooden spears, one Long sword and short sword (both of good quality), five broad swords (of low quality) and three scimitars (probable Umbarian origin)

 • (location of Yew tree)

Orcs; 2nd combat:

 • 67 SP & 156 CP

 • 20 shields, 24 scimitars, 4 heavy crossbows, 6 short bows, 6 spears, Leather & Studded Leather (of dubious value)

Gash; 3rd combat:

 • knife coated in magical tarlike substance
 • magic pouch
 • magic belt
 • three fine magic volumes

Orc cavern; 4th combat:

 • treasures bundled up or on the four leaders
 • good valuables in Gash’s purse

Does anyone in the party have ‘Identify’?

I do. If we’re going pretty much straight back to town tomorrow, I’ll load it.

Well there might be a wandering monster on the way back, so why not load your combat spells, then once we’re safely in Minas Tirith, we can find out exactly what we’ve got.
(I’ll load a Detect Magic, so we can find out if any of the new stuff is magic.)

Thanks Glee, that looks right. (Warp Wood would be useless

The Uruk-Hai fights his bounds tougher and curses the elf.

Mulligan, Gwaelur and Thoroncir head down the final passage.

It goes only about 30’ and then has a deep well. The water looks good and there is two bucket on long ropes.

Perhaps Ghân told the party he can identify pure water?
Anyway, let the Wose sleep (unless the Uruk-Hai breaks free  ).

Given Ghân felled a couple of combat opponents with paralysing darts, I think we have a couple more captives to interrogate.

Keep the Took away from the well. :stuck_out_tongue:

[Remembering the Temple of Elemental Evil] Keep your polearms handy as you approach the water supply!

Ask the rescued captives if they know if the well is OK to use.

Good point, oops.

They say yes it is a very good well and they pulled many buckets a day for the orcs and Gash.

After a good cold drink from the well, refilling his water flask and making sure the former captives are comfortable, Thoroncir will volunteer to stand the night’s first watch at the cave mouth.

Ask the ‘previously paralysed’ captives the same questions we asked the Uruk-Hai:

 • how many used to be here in total? (this is so we can check against numbers killed)
 • was Gash in charge? Did he report to anyone? (did he use ‘far speech’?)
 • where did Gash sleep? (search it carefully for treasure)
 • what did Gash want to achieve?
 • do they know of any similar bands?

Do this out of sight and hearing of the Uruk-Hai - and add these:

 • who was the deputy to Gash?
 • how long has the band been here?
 • have they kept all the prisoners they captured, or do they send them on somewhere else?
