Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game, the Game itself

A little patience people, unless you really don’t wish to go, Caramir was bring you up to see either the King or the Prince. I think it was missed but earlier I said.

*The extended party is escorted to the highest circle near the Citadel. *

This was meant to convey and audience with the highest and a formal debriefing if you will. The White Tree was just a convenient place to wait for Eldarion Telcontar who should be arriving shortly.

The party is formally escorted to the tree by two citadel guards. They particularly salute Caramir and Thoroncir and make special bows to Gimli and Merry.

The Courtyard of the White Tree is dazzlingly clean, marble and green grass. The Tree is brilliant and almost glowing in the early afternoon sun. Like a reminder of Galathilion of Tirion.

There are people milling around and picnicking. They are in all manner of garb and races. There is even another Hobbit, Pippin of course.

It is easy to see an honor guard of 10 proud citadel guards.

A nice late lunch is brought out and after about 45 minutes Eldarion arrives without fanfare and with two older ministers in tow. You note the Prince looks like a younger version of his Sire, but otherwise made of the same stern granite. He is wearing his sword and some Mithril Chainmail.

“Greeting good peoples of many lands, I thank you for the recent aid in rescuing to our people and in squashing this conspiracy so near the city. We will interrogate the orcs and especially the Uruk-Hai. In the meantime, you are guests of our city and will be put up in a spare mansion within the third wall. I believe that Brin of Dale might have some additional information and of course, Caramir, Gimli and Meridoc all bring news. Thoroncir, you are formally on detached duty and promoted as of today. Stand ready for new orders; I believe you will be working under a special command of Prince Caramir shortly.

I understand you all have various needs in the city and I wish to rush none of you, we need to collect reports together at this point. The King is fighting in Umbar currently, so I am stuck here.

I understand that the aid of one of our procurement officers might help you in the next few days with things found.

Gil-Gandel, if you could continue to aid us, it would be greatly appreciated and in the meantime, the Library is available to you if that is your desire.

Deor & Thoegrim, I hope you can continue to assist Gondor, I know it is not your kingdom, but your little impromptu group appear to be just the type that the Kingdom is in need.

Mulligan, I am overjoyed that someone else is continuing the family’s tradition. You are welcome to join your uncles in staying up here or with your new friends. I hope you will continue in the King’s service. One can never have enough Hobbits in any adventure. Your Cousin Faramir Took is one of most valued captains.

Ghân we are especially thankful to you. You saved several lives out there over the past few days. I am honored by your service to Gondor. If you would continue to help, I would be most grateful. I understand you learned from Radagast the Brown himself. Is this true?

Finally, Gwaelur, I hear you fought ever in the front and slew many enemies. My great thanks to you. There may be a few more orcs to kill if you are willing to help.”

Gondor may not be my country, but all men of good heart are my brothers. I will stay and give what aid I can as long as it is needed or until duty calls me elsewhere.

Ghân is more relaxed about that…

Ghân is overawed by the surroundings and especially the White Tree.

He stammers his thanks and desire to help the Free Peoples, and also that he did indeed study under Radagast. :o

“A tour of the Library would be delightful. Also, if there be any here who remember the minstrel who wrote The Lay of Nine-Fingered Frodo, I would be delighted to talk with them.”

I will also be delighted to inspect any items that need looking over. I had no idea I had any ability yet in this department.

Whoops, I thought I was missing this field trip. Any chance the local Librarians would let me copy a spell or two?

*Show Gil-Gandel the items and get his opinion, then move on to the mages of the city and ask for help.

Merry knows who wrote it, but is sad to let you know that he was not young at the time and passed away many years ago.

BTW: You finally get the idea that Merry is getting a kick out of the fact that you are impressed with meeting him when he has never gotten over being impressed with meeting elves.

With that the Prince motions to Merry, “Come Uncle, we have much to talk about.”

They head off with Gimli, Caramir, one of the ministers and an awestruck Brin. He just keeps look up and out and down and around and looks a little slack jawed. This is all very new to him.

I thought it would be so - but his art will linger many years yet. If he had students who yet live, I would like to talk with them.

Well, there are hobbits and hobbits, and he did help slay the Witch-King, knows the unique Tom Bombadil, knew the Master of Fangorn’s Wood (I’ve no idea if he’s seen him recently), knew at first hand just about everyone who did anything of note in the War except only Lord Denethor, and is one of the King’s oldest and most favoured friends. That makes him one of the dozen most historically significant people in the world today (especially with the Lord and Lady gone, and Elrond besides) and - he being an elderly mortal - I’m keen to spend as much time in the company of a living antique as possible.

Of course he visited Fangorn & Quickbeam on the way south. Fangorn after all is the warden of Isengard. They spent weeks in Rohan visiting Eomer and his Kids and Gimli.

Thoroncir bows low to the Prince Eldarion and murmurs thanks before the Heir Apparent to the Throne of Gondor and Arnor departs with his advisors.

Then the Sea-Knight says to Gil-Gandel, “Friend Elf, I too would like to spend more time with the famous Meriadoc Brandybuck, if time permits. I heard much of him in my childhood; he is assuredly a living legend.”

He also muses thoughtfully and happily upon his earlier conversation with the Princess Gilraen.

Ghân: “Deor, you have the true instincts of the Mage!
Please also lead our effort to identify our magic treasure.”

Ghân politely asks if the procurement officer could get him some herbal cures ready for the next trip.

He also asks Gil-Gandel if he should inform the city folk of the Yew Tree location (so good for making arrow shafts)

My former master has agreed to ID everything and clear the firetraps for 200gp, plus the right to read the spellbooks. Sounds like a bargain to me.

Thoroncir tells the Citadel’s quartermaster, “If any are to be had, I would like to get a sufficient length of Elven rope, a shield with the White Tree emblazoned upon it, and a brace of torches, ere we depart Minas Tirith.” If no Elven rope is available, he will ask Gil-Gandel where he might obtain some.

Brin is quite wide-eyed, not used to being in the halls of kings and other great men of the Fourth Age. As noted, his needs are few. As a ranger (note the small ‘r’), all he needs he can carry with him. He needs nothing new more than a comfortable set of boots, or a maybe a tertiary dirk for emergencies.

With those spellbooks, that ring, and possibly the necklace or belt, Deor has made out like a bandit, and would feel guilty spending any more of the party’s money. He’s going to visit some old friends, check in with his master one more time for any advice, and then spend some quality time with his spellbooks and hunting with Folca.

Is there any benefit to consolidating spells into one book, rather than having them all spread out across my own and Gash’s three? Seems like I’m going to fill books up eventually, and I may as well keep pages free.

Mulligan is currently staying quiet but accepts the acknowledgement.

I will be catching up with my Uncle Pippin, I have a lot to tell him, but I may see you all around.

Brin, if you want someone to show you round the city, I can do so. I have been given a few tours myself, as well as wander into a few places I know I’m not supposed to go. My uncle can be protective at times

Ghân, may I suggest that we see how well the Tree takes to our treatment of it first? There are many, many people in the city and it may suffer from too much harvesting, while being able to meet my needs without harm. In fact, if we are able to prune it to its benefit while we’re about it (whether or not the prunings are any use to me), I think that would be only fair. Between the two of us we should be able to leave it healthier than we found it.

Of course, a well-established yew could make even me feel young.

If there is no hithlain rope to be had in Minas Tirith, ISTR that there is now a colony of our people in Ithilien, Faramir’s country. That’s only a short ride from here. Brin might like some too - it is very strong, does not burn the hand, and is light and compact to carry.

Ghân comments that we haven’t agreed that you got all that stuff yet!
Also consider how few spells you can cast each day - it maybe better to sell those you are unlikely to use.

Yes, I think that’s the best idea. After all, Ghân found it foraging … so do you fancy a trip there now?
Please note that Fang will be accompanying me. If he were to be called something else … I might forget the tree’s location.

DM, I’d need to load Plant Growth that day.
Also, how much is a sturdy Rohan pony? Moose is a great companion, but he’s not really my mount.
