Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game, the Game itself

*hithlain * rope should be available in Ithilien. When you see Caramir next I would ask him.

A good Rohan Hill Pony is only 100 GP with full tack. A poor pony and tack could be had for 40 GP.

Jari laughs and says, “Young Mage has big eyes, go lightly young Mage.”

So a few hours pass. People are taking care of business. Deor is getting some good news and some pricing.

Caramir leaves a message at the house that if possible, he would like to join you all at 8pm for a late dinner and to discuss upcoming plans and anything he can do in the short to help you prepare.

He notes that he will have the official detached duty notice and promotion for Thoroncir and he already got permission to attached Theogrim if he is willing.

Let us discuss the division of treasure while we are at it and get that out of the way. Merry & Pippin will join us. They plan to sup with the Queen and family and then eat dinner with us. Apparently Mulligan will be with them for both.

Gimli might drop by too, if not Jari will represent the Dwarves.

There is another formal look paper:

Gwaelur son of Gwaelin you are formally requested to give aid to Prince Caramir of Ithilien in service to the free people of Middle Earth in any expeditions against the Uruk-Hai and Orcs of Ered Lithui.

Signed Gimli son of Gloin
Lord of the Glittering Caves EF

Caramir and Thoroncir, I am happy to go. Also, there is the matter of the great sword we took in the battle. It appears my hands may be the ones most accustomed to such a blade. May I take it? I understand it is of some value, but if we agree, then I will see to it that you are compensated out of these and future spoils.

OneCentStamp, please see my post in the setup thread.

Thoroncir smiles warmly and claps Theogrim on the shoulder, saying, “It seems the sword could best be employed in your capable hands, my friend. After it is reforged and cleansed of any taint of evil, I bid you take it and use it well, as I know you shall.”

Thoroncir also gladly accepts Prince Caramir’s invitation, and will sit down to write a long letter to his parents in Linhir, advising them of his recent adventures and good fortune.

Gwaelur will be honored to dine with the Prince. He will take that opportunity to formally present himself as a fighter in the Prince’s aid as a servant of Aglarond and Gimli.

Yep, let’s go to dinner. We can sell off the necklace, the extra gems, and the staff in the morning.

Or barter them.

Though I’ve fought alongside a Ranger of Ithilien and Lord of Gondor, and alongside Heroes of the War of the Ring, I’m not sure I’m ready to dine at their table. Though we’ve broken bread along the trail, what does a simple man of Dale know about the manners of the courts and dining halls of Kings and Princes? What if I fail to use the right fork, or fail to give the proper praise at the appropriate time? I don’t have the right dress for a royal court. I can’t even pronounce these Elven names properly. They all sound so much better when spoken by Starharp. Coming from my tongue, it must sound like a slight and insult to their name and their family. Elessar; Eldarion Telcontar; Gil-Gandel…better were I mute than to let them hear me try to say their names. Not only will my shortcomings reflect poorly upon myself, but upon all men of Dale. This is a fine mess I have found myself in. Little can I turn down an invite of the Prince, yet to accept may harm relations between our cities.

ETA: I’m soliloquoizing (and butchering the English language in front of Malacandra and glee explaining it).

Jari says, "No worries. Only Mulligan Took was invited to the dinner with Queen Arwen & Prince Eldarion. Yours is but a late supper at this house you are staying at with Caramir and maybe Gimli. You already know they are very down to earth. Especially Caramir.

Apparently the three Hobbits will be having a Formal Dinner and then a late Supper with us. I have heard that they can eat a Dwarf under the table, to coin a twisted phrase."

Thoroncir says, “Come and sit next to me. Just follow my lead, and I’ll keep you from committing any terrible blunders. Besides, Prince Caramir is not, from all I’ve heard, one to stand on ceremony.”

But he is still a Prince, and certainly schooled in the manners of a royal court. I’ve no tales nor songs fit for Princes of Men. What will we discuss? Certainly my few stories cannot compare to the experiences of a Ranger of Ithilien.

Jari says, “Wow, I just worry about belching and farting, I never thought about this other stuff. Thanks a lot, now I am suddenly nervous.”

Stick with me, I can make you nervous about anything.

Gwaelur lets out a hearty laugh.

"Brin, Jari, neither one of you has anything to worry about. Your stories are fine, and I assure you that if you continue to carry yourselves as you have for the last several days, all will be well. Caramir will not care which fork you use, and I assure you that a recounting of any of your exploits will prove riveting.

I would caution you against farting though. Best to save that till you are alone."

So belching is acceptable?

Jari, “Good to know, beside the important thing for tonight is figuring out who gets what. I don’t mind helping out on short notice, but it is good to be paid for it.”

It depends, but it can be, yes. The rules of etuquitte are too complicated for me to ever remember them though. So I personally attempt to not belch either. But that is up to you.

Farting is right out.

Reason #452 why tabletop RPGs are nearly devoid of women: the posts directly preceding mine. :stuck_out_tongue:

Theogrim quietly looks forward to this dinner. While he’s not too comfortable with silver forks and linen napkins, he’s interested in seeing the quality of Gondorian royalty.

8pm arrives for a late dinner. Jari was already there resting. The three Hobbits arrive without Gimli. He stayed to talk more with Eldarion. Some servants are bustling around, preparing dinner and readying the rooms.

Caramir arrives right at 8pm and looks like he road hard to make it.

“My apologies, but it has been a busy day. The King’s Alchemist was able to get the Uruk-Hai to talk and we got much information. There is a plot afoot based in Ered Lithui. There appear to be a strong Shaman of Morgoth involved. The might be upwards of 400 orcs and 100 Uruks. Worse is that there are as many as a dozen elite Uruk-Hais known as Hunter/Killers that have train specially in the use of the strongbow and are well equipped and very hardy. Sadly the beast bit his own tongue of at that point and could not be saved.

I plan to raise several strong scout parties to go in and get a lot more information. We might even be able to take this shaman out. I would like your group to be one of the parties. We will get one more to bring your number up to nine. She will be a healer of Estë. I hope to find out whom within two days.

To business manners:
Gimli has offered to reforge the sword. This and a Priests work should make it safe to use in short order.
I tally up 1800 in gold + 800 in gems. We will get 250 for the staff and 2250 for the Necklace. We have expenses of 205 for the IDs and 250 to clean the sword. This should be 4645gp to split up.

Deor will be the only Mage out on this mission; I cannot find another to travel. I suggest that we take 1000gp and get him a magic pearl and luckstone to help with the Identifies. I understand he is getting these as a steep discount for his master as part of the trade for the necklace.

Division of items:
Theogrim: the +2 Two-handed Sword of Wounding and no gold
Gil-Gandel: The Magic Belt of +3 AC & +1 saves and may not be worn with Armor
Brin: The large Pouch of reduced weight. (50%) and it protects its contents unless the pouch is destroyed.
Mulligan: The Smoking Powder to be turned into 30 small smoke bombs.
Ghân: The Magical Magnifying Glass that gives +1 levels to Detections and IDs.
Deor: The Spell Books, The Magic Ruby (not a ring) that help ID, magic inks, silver pens, blank scrolls and possibly the Luckstone & Pearl, but then no share of gold.
That would make for either 15 shares of 3645 for 243gp each or 16 shares of 4645 for 290gp each.

What say you all, is this acceptable?”

Notes on the ID items: There will probably be a magic pearl or ruby or luckstone available that would act as not only the complete material component but increase the chance of detection. These are not consumed. The luckstone adds a 25% bonus, the magic Rubies remove the Con loss and the Magic Pearl will give a 5% bonus.

Sorry to disappoint Theogrim, just one tired looking hard working younger son that is a Ranger that is half Rohirrim Lord.

I will certainly vote for giving Deor a helping hand with future Identifies - that will benefit us all while we are in the field. I personally will be quite content with 243 gold and this delightful Belt.

Can we say one dozen arrows to bring me back to complement, and another two dozen for the reserve supply - all of them the dwarf-made ones @2gp?
