Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game, the Game itself

Gwaelur stands up,

"Ahem. I am not used to making speaches, but we lost a good friend and a good Dwarf on this crusade. He fought well and gave his life helping to vanquish our foe. I have lots of gp and little to spend it on. It seems near certain that there will be more to come in the future. That being the case, I would like to offer my share of the profits to Náli’s family, in his honor and his name.

Thank you"

Gwaelur looks around, a bit embarassed, and then sits back down.

I’m willing to forgo my share of the gold- if there’s something especially valuable for me, it will be in the party’s best interests to pitch in and help out, and besides, I’m still way ahead at this point with just the spellbooks.

Ghân is very happy with the new mission.

The division of treasure is fine, and I’m happy for Deor to get the extra ID stones (but then I think Deor has done well enough to pass on the gold, because this was an MU type haul!). So 15 shares of 243gp.

Given Ghân can’t do Identify, the Glass is not a big thing for him. If there was a chance to barter it, he would take the deal.
(He’d also like a good pony and a visit with Gil-Gandel to the Yew.)

Merry, "I am fine with the decision, but I have little need for the gold. I will donate 100gp of my share to Náli’s family.

Jari, “The Dwarves are fine with this division and I will also give 50gp and Gimli instructed that all of his share will go to Náli’s family.”

Caramir, “What say the rest of you? Please speak up.”

Thoroncir says, “The proposed division seems fair to me. I, too, will donate 100gp to Nali’s family, and the balance to my Order, after I have purchased the Elven-rope I earlier sought and replenished my supplies from our venture against the foul Gash. I presume I will have the shield and torches issued to me at no charge from the Citadel’s armory? In any event, my thanks to all. I am honored to be in such estimable company, here in the White City.”

He stands and raises his glass of Dorwinion wine. “A toast, my friends, to our host Prince Caramir, and to our brave captain, Gil-Gandel!”

Rising and bowing: “A captain has little work to do when he has those of stout heart and hard hand to back him. Though I am grateful for your kindness, I propose myself that we drink to the Free Peoples - all races of Men, Dwarves, Halflings and Elves - and confusion to the Darkness!”

Discreetly, aside to Gimli: “Please convey also a hundred pieces from my share. As I seem now to be captain of this small but doughty band, I do this privately, lest any think they must follow my example, for I know that some have responsibilities of their own, or family who need the money. Also please take this.”

Gil-Gandel hands over a roll of parchment on which is inscribed Náli’s funeral song.

I think this counts as a good evening. Two excellent meals, good company and a chance for further adventure.

I will be quite happy to donate to Nali’s family as well and I look forward to journeying with you all, providing I can persuade my Uncle to let me go to carry on the family tradition of getting in over their head.

::There is a sly wink at Pippin Took::

Ghân has been thinking more about the treasure. As his life has suddenly changed dramatically (from growing up in a forest, to meeting Radagast, then adventuring and now seeing the White Tree  ), he comes to a decision.

He tells Gil-Gandel (and Deor):
“I now realise that the Magnifying Glass is better for Deor than me. It will surely help him with the task of Identifying, so I give it to him freely.
I am happy to stand alongside him as he is keen to learn and our spells work well together.
Next, I too would like to quietly help Nali’s family. Could you find out if they farm or work in stone? I can cast a Plant Growth or a Stone Shape if it will assist. I would also like to give some money - how much do you suggest?”

Ghân grins at the brave Scout:
"I think we know which of the above three your remarkable stomach favours the most! "

Considering I was able to dine with the most beautiful woman in Middle Earth earlier this evening, for once, the meal came second.

Caramir, “It appears the majority of the party is happy with the split. I will speak more of our mission later when I know more.”

Pippin to Mulligan, “Merry says you did well, probably better than I did on my first adventures. I think it is a good time for you to go off on your own. Good Luck. Furthermore, would you like my Elven Rope? I will have no more need of it. I have a 100’ of it. Those were two fine meals.” He leans backs and lights his pipe, looking as content as only a Hobbit or Cat could.

Jari is happy to accept the scroll and gold on behalf of Lord Gimli and Nali’s family. “Thank you Gil-Gandel, you are proof that the long mistrust between our peoples is as foolish as Lord Gimli says it is.”

Caramir mentions to Thoroncir, “Ah, elven rope, indeed there might be some available from my own lands. I think I can get you a good length before we leave. As to shields and torches, I can go you one better. A good dwarf made lantern and shield will be issued to you.”

He then turns to Brin, “You made a good partner, Man of Dale, why do you not speak? Is aught amiss, I am asking too much of you? Do you need or desire anything I can help with?”

He turns to Ghân, “Sir, we left no money for healing herbs, might I suggest you spend the money you might donate on that instead. I believe this is my fault.”

Merry says, “Here take the rest of my share an buy herbs and seeds that will help. Good luck and bring Mulligan back in one piece please.” (With a laugh.)

Caramir in general, “Theogrim, Gwaelur or Deor do you have any specific needs?”

My apologies my Lord. It is just that I am unused to dining with Princes and Heroes and Knights and Mages, and fear tripping over my own tongue. I am also unused to the riches bestowed upon us. You have granted me what I would consider a king’s ransom, yet others here freely give it away. I’m stunned and awed by their generosity and I will match it; still I fear I have much more to learn about handling the coin I’ve earned. In the past, when the Dale Guard would win a raid, the spoils would go to the guard and we were then paid our wage. But I am no longer in Dale, and I need to adapt to my new surroundings, sir. I will do my best to represent highly the men of Dale while under your banner, my Lord.

No, my lord, I consider myself most fortunate. So long as our healers are well prepared to go forward, I need nothing.

Ghân thanks Caramir and Merry.

He makes a note to get Herbal Cures from the City Procurer and to buy himself a top quality pony (and tack).
(Does he need to buy food/supplements for Fang or Brownie?)

Over the next three days:

Ghân, Moose apparently has a share and asks, “Anything I can do with share to better kill orcs?”

How many GoodBerries do you cast each day, how long do the last?

You find a very good pony for 100 fully equipped.

You pick up rations for all three animals for another 10gp.
The Herbal cures prepped and preserves for 30 days potency will cost roughly 10gp per. These are the ones you are exceptionally good at using.

You and Gil-Gandel ride out to the Yew Tree. You use your Plant Growth spell to make the tree healthier and larger and grow many good limbs suitable for bow staves and arrow shafts. How many of each do you choose to harvest Gil-Gandel? Anything else the two of you do with the Yew.

Fang seems happy with the journey and is learning fast.

Gil-Gandel wants some arrows, I think you are buying 24 silver Dwarf made silver arrows. Is that correct?
If so it will cost 48gp. These arrows are also +3 on saves versus breakage.

A Sergeant of the Armory calls for Thorncir & Brin one day. “I need Detached Duty Specialist Thoroncir, are you him, can you verify. Very well, that paper will do nicely. Here is one Dwarven made small battle shield. It is of quality make and extras light. We find these deflect attacks are roughly a 5% increase over standard shields. Good Luck Sir.” He hands the shield to you and salutes. The shield is not magic but provides a +1 bonus to AC.

“Brin, Man of Dale, I was requested to give you the long turn loan of the same issue. Your voluntary service in the King’s cause is appreciated.” He hands the shield to you and salutes and looks a little sheepish, “Sorry about that, this is a little unusual. No need to salute.”

He turns back to Thoroncir, “A moment sir”; he pulls a small finely wrought lantern. “This is a lantern of Aglarond, this clever little device is very efficient with oil and very sturdy. It will burn for 6 hours on a flask of good oil and has a built in sparker. I also am to issue you 10 extra wicks and 10 flasks of oil. These items are now considered part of your regular gear and when you complete your service to the King you shall muster out with them. ”

Mulligan your 30 smoke bombs can be made for 30gp.

Pippin takes you and any friends on a grand tour of “his city”. He is in his old garb as a Guard of the City.
Merry hands you 10 silver sling bullets and says here, these should bring you luck, more importantly in a pinch they should hit more often. You will find they will fly true and fast. (+2 to hit and damage)

Deor needs nothing else. Ghan, that’s very generous of you and I am humbled to accept. Indeed, I’m feeling a little guilty because the party has given so much of this treasure haul to me. If there’s anything I can do for you, please let me know.

Deor will spend the next three days in Minas Tirith studying with his master, hunting with Folca, and practicing his new spells.

Thoroncir thanks the sergeant and stows his new gear. He finds out when the next regular post-carrier is leaving for Linhir, and sends his letter to his parents. He happily explores the city with Pippin and the others, making sure that his warhorse Seafoam is comfortably stabled. He spends most of his time, however, poking around the White Tree, the Tower of Ecthelion, the Court of the Fountain and anywhere else he may (without running afoul of the guards or seeming to trespass) hopefully catch another glimpse of the fair Gilraen.

Ghân is enjoying the adventure a lot and realises that the party being effective is what counts.
Just let any of our spellcasters borrow it when convenient, OK?

Thoroncir, One day when with the Hobbits, you notice her hurrying out of the House of Healing on some errand.

Think of Brin as a kid from a small town visiting the big city for the first time, and with lots of disposable income in his pocket. The next few days will be a learning experience for him.
