You didn’t ask, but Theogrim lies perfectly still, inwardly fuming over magic tricks and his own weakness in falling prey to one.
Maybe Renee should use her Earendil light again?
Remember that I didn’t see that first time around, so I don’t know anything about it.
We’ll wait for the burglar, meanwhile keeping quiet so I can hear if there seem to be Orcs massing nearby. We may have dealt with them efficiently enough that most don’t even know there is anything the matter. I’ll restock my quiver from the reserve supply if I have any breakages or unrecoverables.
Ghân is ready to hand the light back to Renee when required.
He considers the Eyes to be particularly unnatural and Evil.
Thoroncir says to Renee, “My lady, if you are willing and when Theogrim may again move on his own, let us all go to the chamber of which our Hobbit-friend Mulligan has spoken. There you might again use your lamp, and the light of Earendil may once again cleanse a dark place of long-brooding evil. What say you?”
GM, anything of note on the bodies of the slain orcs?
Mulligan returns and relays his info.
Renee is still singing and shakes her head no to the idea of another cleansing already. She is already holding the bauble, Ghân had passed it to her before casting summon insects before. She had placed it on Theogrim’s chest while working on him.
Mulligan heads down the main passage and roughly 40’ on the left is another passage that runs back at a 45° angle to the Shaman’s chamber. There was also an empty alcove on the main passage to left between the two passages to the Shaman’s chamber.
Mulligan takes a quick peek through the double doors at the end of the main passage and sees 6 orcs rigging some rope traps and quietly building some defensive points from where they can shoot.
Thoroncir and Gwaelur taking only a brief time to check out the bodies, notice and retrieve one bulging small sack and a pouch on the Shaman.
Well the Shaman’s chamber is probably worth taking a look at later on once we have cleared out this warren of Orcs.
We still have a couple of extra places to look after this and it is probably heading towards nightfall as well.
Don’t forget there are still a couple of Large Spiders and a really Huge Large Spider somewhere in this complex we should probably deal with as well.
If possible, I think I should slip in and try and negate some of the rope traps or set up some of my own. Possibly sabotage some of the defensive points as well.
Or alternatively, make ghostly sounds behind them and scare them silly so they run out from their position making it easier for the rest of the party to get to them.
Does cutting bow strings count as an offensive action removing invisibility
You see they are actively building defenses as we speak. They would surely notice ropes being cut. You also now notice that there is just inside the room, a large amount of white powder on the floor.
Getting into the room undetected seems unlikely.
Ooooooo. A Challenge. I like a good challenge.
I guess I have a few minutes while waiting for the Hold Person to wear off.
Go for it, Mulligan! Make us proud.
Ghân wonders if we could impersonate the Shaman?
We did hear him cast a spell - anyone speak Orc and fancy their chances?
Mulligan’s Off the Cuff guide to flushing out Orcs.
The good news about playing around in an underground cavern area is that the walls are good for climbing on. The bad news about white powder is that people rarely attach it to the walls.
I need a couple of flasks of oil and a volunteer. Oh and Ghan, can I borrow six of your paralysis darts as well.
Gil-Gandel, here are 5 of the glass bullets, should you wish to try them out.
I will check the door over first, but then I need someone to open it carefully just enough for me to get through, while I climb through at the top and across the walls and then close the door quietly behind me. I will have to disable or negate any rope traps on the door eg. being linked to a bell, although being a lot smaller than everyone else, they may not have rigged it to perfection, allowing a bit of leeway for me to get through.
Hopefully, there will be not too many nasty surprises on the other side. I am hoping that there are no Spiders around as well. If I can climb far enough round, I can avoid the white powder on the floor.
If the barricade is wooden, I can surreptiously leave the oil jars spilt at the bottom of the pile and set it alight. Otherwise, I can create a fire screen in front of them, so they have difficulty seeing the party when it comes through. (Or set their feet on fire)
Of course, if the powder out front is just flour, I can set that alight as well and turn the room into a very smoky area.
When they are rather distracted, I suggest coming in carefully to get them. I will be attempting to knock them out.
Oh and if goes wrong, revert to plan B. Get 'em.
Thoroncir will be glad to give Mulligan any of his ten oil flasks (intended for his Dwarf-made lantern of Aglarond). He’ll be glad to open the door, too.
Ghân admires your bravery.
You are welcome to 6 paralysis darts (any chance you can use my blowpipe?)
I think the room is in range of my Locate Animals spell, so I can hopefully tell you if there are Monster Spiders in there.
I can cast Barkskin on you (+1 bonus to AC and saves) - but it means one less Cure Light Wounds.
I can get Fang to give a **wolf howl ** as well.
BlowPipe - no thanks. I will be stabbing them directly into the leg/arm/face if I need to use them.
If you can detect if there are any spiders it would be useful. Save the Barkskin for the Cure Light. The idea is not to need it.
Ghân will cast Locate Animals (for Monster Spiders) in the direction of the orc’s guardroom.
Well as Mulligan heads back out to try his luck with the orcs, Theogrim is actually back on his feet. Also the doors were already wide open from when the orcs charged out.
The plan sounds good, but had one tragic flaw; you carefully climbed the door and started along the wall to bypass the white powder. Sadly you are actually not very good at climbing walls and fall to the floor. The 78% roll is done for every 10 feet.
The orcs go, “Whass that?”
Another Orc, “Look over there, the invisible sneak, get him.”
If we hear that, form up the rest of the party and charge, bearing in mind the rope traps. Otherwise I suppose we’ll have to wait for the sound of screaming.
and Mulligan yet again perfoms the role of causing a distraction. This is getting to be a bad [del]hobbit[/del] habit :smack:
OOC: How far did I make it around the wall?
The 78% roll is done for every 10 feet. Hey, I’d expect to make that 4 times out of 5
If you wait for the sound of screaming, you will probably find a pin cushion instead.
I guess I have to avoid the first volley of arrows from the Orcs then. So with that in mind, staying low to the ground, leg it. Hopefully they will not realise quite how small I am.
Anything around to dive behind, any alcoves to hide in, or do I have to resort to running up the wall
