Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game, the Second Adventure, Scouting Ered Lithui

Doer already had 16 Goodberries, so Ghân is happy to pass over 32 more.
Renee also already had 16 Goodberries and both Mulligan and Gil-Gandel have 8.

I don’t think there is much for me to do apart from sit back and watch the show.

Oh well, I’ll keep an eye on our healers and make sure they are not interefered with.

Most kind!

A cry goes up from the Orc allies, “Dremak is dead, we are free, Dremak is dead, we are free!”

Thoroncir’s horse carries him away from harm.

Ghân & Deor continue to help the injure and a few crawl over to Renee who is out of the trench and using her healing skills to help the injured. She is still singing. (BTW: This gives +1 saves to her friends and -1 to be hit. This last part is key as it has saved 2 crits already and many hits)

Many more orcs start fleeing. Captain Helton orders a squad to harrass them and keep them from heading back to the caves.

Moose breaks off at this point to pursue those fleeing.

One Uruk warrior came at Ghân, but fang launch himself at it and Brin put an arrow in him to complete the job.

Brin injured another Uruk that was vaguely nearing Renee and himself.

Mulligan is covering Deor and is systematically taking care of the sleeping and seriously injured orcs. Mulligan notices that a few unhorsed and injured riders are doing the same.

As the situation is now very tight in the middle, the Rangers are racing forward to the Uruks to support Riglo and the riders.

Theogrim could not extract his lance and is now on foot with his two-handed sword of wounding out. The orcs do not look happier about his. He swings and misses.

Gwaelur attacks an injured Uruk and cleaves its arm off as he blocks its sword.

Gil-Gandel is now doing precision firing on the injured Uruk-Hai and many riders are sweeping along the edge for well timed, low risk attacks by sword and lance.

A dozen are actually supporting the orc allies, charging at only Uruk-Hai and from the rear.

The orc morale is obviously crushed, but the Uruk-Hai fight on.

Ghân’s Entangle lasts 10 rounds - does he think the battle will end before the orcs are freed?
Also is there any sign of his Heat Metal working?

When Thoroncir’s head clears, he’ll bring his warhorse Seafoam around and attack the remaining Uruk-Hai with lance, if available, or with longsword.

Actually you do see the last remaining Warg rider that you affected has tossed off his helm and tossed down his sword and is trying to get off the scale mail he is wearing.

I hadn’t thought about that= her song would make it impossible for an enemy to score a critical hit without a bonus of some kind.

Excellent- since I’ll be hard to spot (being, you know, invisible) I’ll give Mulligan a shout whenever I’m moving on so he can keep a good idea of where I am. Keep going with the berries, and go back to Ghan for refills when necessary.

Relax, I can get a rough idea of where you are are from you disturbing things as you move around and by people being magically healed out of nowhere. Plus I have a reasonable idea now of what you are up to, so it’s not too hard to follow.

But thanks for the shout anyway.

Just don’t forget to let Ghan know before you get more Goodberries.

The allied army becomes more cautious. Concentrating on any Orc or Uruk that picks up a bow.

A dozen lancers support the orcs and 15 are harrying those that fled the field, keeping them from the mountains. Moose in particular is just going after every stray orc he can.

Theogrim strikes a Uruk and injures it badly, it is bleeding from its wound. It hits him for 6
Gwaelur is on his right and hits another Uruk twice, dropping it. The ax was stuck in the Uruk’s chest but his shield bash pushed the Uruk off and to the ground dead. Gwaelur is covered head-to-toe in blood, gore and dirt at this point.

Caramir is on Theogrim’s left side and strikes down an Uruk using a 2-Handed sword of his own.

Riglo drops three more Uruk-Hai, all were injured.

Thoroncir charges back in swinging his long sword at an Uruk that just stood back up. He finishes it off.

Gil-Gandel is ensuring that any orc with a bow goes down and most of the Rangers are doing the same.

Brin continues to protect Renee as she works and sings. He sees one orc get to its knees and hits it. It drops for good. He shoots one of the entangled orcs.

Ghân, Deor and Mulligan continue the triage.

There are only 8 of the Uruks left and 5 orcs in the middle. The warg-rider that was pulling off his armor is blistering and screaming in pain.

Captain Helton leads another 4 riders over to help the orcs in green. He sends another 5 to harry those running away.

Ghân encourages Brin to shoot Entangled Orcs, explaining the spell has limited duration.

Ghân resupplies Doer and Mulligan with Goodberries as required. He makes sure Fang is OK.

Nothing new here- continue working through the injured, popping back to Ghan when out of Berries. Keep Folca high, ready to spot any surprises.

Thoroncir, joyous in battle, will cut down any other non-allied orcs he sees.

Call loudly for any remaining enemies to lay down their arms and surrender, in the name of King Elessar.

As one the 8 remaining Uruk-Hai attempt to break out by swarming Gwaelur, Theogrim and Caramir. The plan may have had some merit if not for the other Rangers. They fail to miss with arrows and Riglo is now laying into them from the side. Before another minute can pass the Uruk-Hai are all down and Caramir took a small wound for 5 and a total of 13.

The riders finish off the 5 orcs and the middle is down. There are 38 relatively healthy riders at this point. 20 are harrying and herding fleeing orcs and 18 are helping the orc allies. The rest have broken off to seek help for either themselves or their mounts. None of the rangers are seriously hurt and most of the party is reasonably healthy.

Thoroncir has yet another lance in hand and is helping against the remaining orcs.

Only a single Uruk remains standing among maybe 40 orcs. Gil-Gandel continues to demand their surrender as he hits the Uruk 3 times from the rear. It finally drops and 3 orcs quickly finish him. Brin feeling as close to bored as he ever has in combat, quietly puts arrows into the entangled Uruk-Hai.

The rest are working on helping the injured.

Fang is fine.

Folca sees no foes coming.

The orcs finally surrender. There are only 31 left that were fighting. They have dropped their weapons and stripping off their armor. Seven of the entangled orcs also survive, none of the Uruk-Hai. The sleepers have already been killed.

Captain Helton asks Deor to mount up and ride with them to locate any orcs fleeing towards the mountains. The Captain and 3 healthy riders escort Deor.

The orcs in green have control over the prisoners and are ensuring the Uruk-Hai and warg riders are all dead. Six riders have returned and there are 12 mounted guarding the battlefield.

Renee finally stops her song. The unmounted riders that are healthy are acting as transporters for the seriously injured. Renee and Ghân with the aid of 7 rangers including Brin make for a good first aid camp.

Renee insist are handling the worst injured first and then moves on to help the orcs as needed mixed in with the humans and horses. No one begrudges Ghân’s choice if he is helping the horses more than the humans and the rangers cannot bring themselves to help the orcs of course.

After two hours have gone by, the battlefield is in order. The all but 12 riders have returned and they are simply on patrol. The injured have all been tended to and even Ghân vast supply of berries have been used up. The prisoners are secured and picketed.

It is pushing close to noon at this point. Eight riders and 12 horses will return no more to the fields of Gondor. The Orc allies are reduced do but 80 and 20 of the prisoners wish to go with them. They plan to set off that evening.

Moose seems confused and distressed that the orcs are to leave and live. He is also still very injured. We might be stuck near this camp for several days.

Captain Helton is wondering if we need to send back for help. “We planned to scout in force and have seemingly won a major battle instead as things worked out. We might be able to take the caves now and should at least be able to harry any hunters they send out.”

“By all means, let us take the caves,” Thoroncir says. “After so great a victory at relatively little cost to ourselves, we should take advantage of this opportunity at once, and press on.”

He will then go help Renee, if she needs it.

I am willing to ride out with Captain Helton, though it does make me nervous. We can start now or at first light, if it’s too near sunset now.

That sounds like a job for me as well.

Sounds interesting

Moose, that was a heroic effort. Our job is well done if the orcs will go far away and stop bothering us and those we care for. Elves have no love for orcs, but we do not wish them to die simply for being orcs.

I am still in first-class condition and will gladly go a-scouting with the young Took, once I have scavenged as much ammunition as I can find.

To our orcish allies: You have paid heavily for your freedom; may it reward you according to its price. The tale shall be told of how you kept faith, and those of us that have the ear of Gondor’s King shall see that he hears it.

DM,
Ghân could have cast 3 Cure Light Wounds (plus another two CLW if he is allowed to change his 3rd level spells to 2nd level).
He has 202 Goodberries left (plus Deor had 48, Renee 16, MUlligan 8 and Gil-Gandel 8). (I note that these have all been used up?)
Ghân has 38 herbal curing doses left too.
How much of all this is left?
