Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game, Third Adventure, Ered Lithui Mystery Creature

Ah. Wose poetry. I’d been missing that. :dubious:

It’s like Vogon poetry, only slightly better.

P.S. Hope things have settled down for you - any chance of a Vikings! continuation?!

You misspelled “significantly worse.”

Ole!

By the way, people, does it seem to any of you that our late foe was in almost indecent haste to come to grips with us? Its usual pattern previously was to let Orcs bring it food.

I was guessing it was upset that we slaughtered its meal tickets, but what were you thinking?

Indeed, in return for meals hadn’t it pledged to hunt down and wipe out anyone who troubled the orcs?

Ghân agrees it got onto us very quickly, but perhaps the orcs had an emergency signal to alert it?!

You mean like that signal fire they lit?

There you go! That could be it exactly

Deor’s spells for tomorrow:

C:Bee, Smokepuff, Firefinger, Tie, Distract, Palm
1:Identify, Sleep, Enlarge
2:Invisibility, Web

Here’s hoping that we feel safe enough by the end of the day to check out the new loot!

Had Grilianch defeated us, we’d probably have been the tastiest and most varied meal she’s had in many, many years. Particularly right after the near-destruction of her orc allies, I’m not at all surprised the vampire made a beeline for us.

Oh yes: he won’t have time to do anything tonight, but as soon as the party resumes traveling, Miron would like to start keeping a small store of smoked meat, either from provisions or from snakes and rodents gathered during travel. The encounter with Grilianch was one of his first encounters with a hostile foe who could fly, and he worries that Swift Wing could’ve been in serious trouble if he’d been grounded and unable to hunt for himself for more than a few days.

if the night passes safely, Ghân will load:

1st (7) : Detect Magic*2, Entangle, Faerie Fire, Speak to Animals *3(already cast)

2nd (5) : Barkskin, Cure Light Wounds, Flame Blade, Heat Metal, Slow Poison

3rd (3): Neutralise Poison, Plant Growth*2

(No Predict Weather today, because Plant Growth supercedes Call Lightning. One extra Detect Magic in case Grilliach has something on him, or we discover his lair.)

By the way, could someone post a tally of which animals have been liberated? I remember the polecat, a bunch of mice and shrews, and a couple of lizards… am I missing anyone?

Good call, that man!

Ghân thinks most of the small animals simply ran off when we left the orc lair.
He would be happy to try to ‘match up’ any remaining animals with members of the party that want to care for them.
In fact, Ghân will change his spells for tomorrow to drop one Detect Magic and load one Animal Friendship instead.

If he weren’t asleep, Miron would express his gratitude to Ghân. He tends to be better with critters than with people, but since he is only capable of unassisted communication with hawks he hasn’t gotten that many opportunities to adventure with other animals.

Oh yea, since none of our Rangers are anywhere near 10th level, am I right to assume that the party’s animal companions are more NPCs than Followers?

You have much to learn, young Ranger.

Both Fang and Brownie are linked to Ghân by magic (Animal Friendship) and are trusted companions (whom Ghân will defend with his life if necessary).

Folca is also bound to Deor by magic (Find Familiar) and each will suffer if the other one dies.

And the rest are around because they want to be? Fair enough… thanks for the clarification.

The Wild Cat seems to have attached itself to Mulligan and it enjoyed the stew Mulligan made.

The polecat I think is with Brin and the moment. I thought those were the only ones that came with the party.

Omi no Kami, I understand your concern but so far every animal has been willing to eat the Goodberries except for the Wild Cat. That includes Swiftwing and the Polecats.
Renee mostly to Malacandra, “I thought it odd the vampire would try to take on our entire party during the day. That doesn’t match up to my little bit of knowledge. I wish I knew more about these monsters.”

Oh, good point What?. I’d forgotten about the berries entirely. That spell is proving to be unbelievably handy.
