Although invisible, Mulligan is torn over what to do, but Rorimac’s shout brings her to her senses.
“Mage is protected, so head on, you know what you have to do. Gil-Gandel, get Ghan over there now”, she shouts outs, not caring about who is listening.
Mulligan starts running across to get close under the wyvern
I sure hope Deor fireballs that wyvern and brings that mage down to ground level.
It’s a fireball for sure, targeting the wyvern, not the spellcaster himself, though I’m sure both will catch it. After doing that, Deor will make himself Invisible and get off the Elendil, so as to help keep the mage from blasting the flagship too.
Hurry over with my pocket spellcaster, and wait and see what effect the fireball has. If the wyvern is still flying but low enough (within 30’), cast Hypnotism at it with the suggestion “Now that Master’s lightning has weakened the foe, I should drop to ground level and bag myself a tasty bite of manflesh”. If it goes for it, out with the swords, flame on and melee it, hoping to wound it enough to keep it earthbound.
If the hypnotism appears to have no effect, get some of the good arrows out and see if I can shoot it down.
But if the fireball brings it down, and I can get at that mage, I’ll give him a backstab of my own - not something I’ve done often, but I am trained for it after all.
I think Gil-Gandel and Mulligan have the same idea, although she is hoping that if another lightning bolt is thrown, Ghan can suck the damage up to stop it hurting anyone else. A bit like that electrical trap we encountered.
and Mulligan can backstab and stay invisible
With nerves jangling Rorimac hears the response and watches the faint marks of footsteps speed towards the wyvern.
“Good Luck” he whispers under his breath before turning and moving off towards the ford.
Ghân changes into an Eagle and flies up fast. He dives on the Wizard as soon as he sees him start to cast. Ghân hits for 16 points of damage but takes 23 points of electrical damage from some shocking shield that surrounds the Wizard and his mount. Ghân’s spell protects him. He is now visible as he flies off.
Thoroncir swings and hits the injured ogre of a warrior and drops him as a fireball goes off nearly overhead.
Deor’s fireball does 51 points to the wyvern and the disruption in the air causes the wyvern to crash to the ground throwing its rider. Infantry rush over to the Wyvern and hack at it. Someone barks out, “Clip those wings men!” A Lancer hits and runs the wyvern through.
The Wizard rises to his feet and the first infantry man to attack him is thrown back dead 3’ from him. It appears the fireball did little to him and he did well on the fall.
Gil-Gandel sees this as he is rushing over.
The two Dwarves are crawling off, maybe thinking about potions?
Looks like the sod has some electrical version of Fire Shield. Not good. Oh well. Did I get that Prot Lightning?
I’ll have to hastily reconsider the plan as by the time my damage has been tripled for the backstab and then doubled as backlash I could well do enough to kill myself outright. Out with the best arrows I have (+3 dwarven steel) and if I can find some kind of hard cover within optimum range and behind this pesky wizard, so much the better; but in any case he can have three rounds, rapid fire, right between the shoulder blades.
Sir Thoroncir will plunge his longsword into the heart of the massive enemy warrior to ensure that it’s dead, and order any nearby Sea-knights to take Gwaelur and Bitur to safety. Then, if the overall assault is still going well, he will move to help Gil-Gandel in his attack on the evil mage.
From the fact that people have been missing him with arrows while he was on the wvyern, Mulligan would hazard a guess that is currently running some kind of protection against missiles.
Here’s hoping magic bullets (+3) at point blank range get through.
Gwaelur is too injured to think much while he is being moved by the Sea Knights, beyond simply hoping that there is someone who can attend to his injuries nearby. While today may be a good day to die, there is still much work to be done and he can give up quite yet.
Getting clear of the main battle, Bitur drains his healing potion (3d6 + 9).
Gwaelur makes it to Gilraen who does a Cure Serious for 34 and 8 goodberries so he is down only 38.
Bitur gets back 23 using his potion and is down 40 of his 71.
Malacandra puts 2 of 3 +3 Dwarven steel arrows into the Lightning Mage doing another 28. Mulligan’s hits twice with +3 for 22. The mage is down, bleeding fast and his head is cracked open.
Sir Thoroncir ensures the warrior will never rise again.
A cheer is heard from the infantry and despair from the defenders.
Deor sees he can maintain his position on the bow of The Elendil.
Hraedsig and his 12 are creating chaos among the ballistae and more cavalry has landed.
Rorimac continues on his scouting mission. He nows sees one small problem. He needs to not be bumped into or trampled by those defenders fleeing early.
Gilraen gives Bitur 8 goodberries and a Cure Light for 18 and he is down only 14 of his 71.
Thoroncir beheads the mage. Good riddance!
Mulligan: The mage is down, right job done, time to take off for the fort and to try and avoid the fleeing defenders on the way.
Rorimac: I’m going to keep heading for the fort, I hope I have enough of a head start because it sounds like they are going to be coming my way shortly.
Bitur thanks Gilraen for her assistance, and now that the mage is no longer a threat to the infantry will rally them and lead a charge against the remaining enemy infantry, keeping aware of any remaining enemy seige equipment that may still be operational.
Now that I’m visible again I’ll further hearten the troops with a loud rallying call on Glinras and look for any remaining enemy leaders who may be showing signs of organising resistance.
Seeing that the infantry seem to have the situation well in hand for the moment, Deor will send Folca up high once again, scanning first the ground, then the air for any more approaching foes. He’ll hold his fire for the moment, but if anything else comes up that looks any tougher than an enemy soldier, he’ll blast it. No taking silly risks now.
“Don’t touch the wizard’s belongings! It could be trapped!”*
Sound carries over water pretty well, and Mulligan and Gil-Gandel’s sharp hearing might pick me up. How far from the battle are we?
Shouldn’t it be don’t touch the wizard, he could be trapped
Hraedsig will continue to direct his men to capture the ballistae and any other artillery that might cause problems for the main assault force.
I would avoid touching the wizard, his stuff, his wyvern, the ground around him, or even thinking too hard about him. I’ll blow myself up later checking it out.
