I will stay at my post looking for archery targets and encouraging the men around me - there are plenty who can fight fires at least as well as I can, and many better.
Ghân, seeing the Elendil on fire, will shapechange back to human and cast Quench Fire.
Once our reinforcements are aboard Galley #4 and we’ve established full control of it, Thoroncir will quickly consult with his fellow Sea-knights to see if we might now attack enemy Galley #6, or if it looks like we instead ought to come to the aid of the burning Elendil.
BTW, very cool map of the naval battle!
You’re welcome for the assist, Thoroncir.
So, shall we turn this scow around and head for another ship. Perhaps take on one of those attacking the Elendil to provide some cover for it.
Ghân quenches the fire on The Elendil with his magic. The battle is now well in hand as the Elendil rams Galley #8 and boards fast using the ramp.
Galley #1: solid hit that hits amidships and sends huge splinters flying and a strike to port side forward. The hull is staved and the galley is taking on water. It was left to flounder for now.
Galley #2: Fire bombed on aftcastle early then flame arrowed by escort and is grappled by Transports #9 and #10 The fighting is fierce but going Gondor’s way.
[del]Galley #3[/del]: A Fireball has destroyed the catapult and lit forecastle, dozens of fire arrows on the ship and being boarded by Transports #2 & #3 in the chaos. The ship is scuttled and Transports #2 & #3 are off to help on #2. They have rescued 33 men from slavery on the oars.
Galley #4: The Elendil has boarded fast and hard with over 100 men and most of the party and another 40 from Transport 5 and a prize crew. The 40 return to the Transport #5 and the pair head out to assist against Galley #7. Thoroncir is in charge of a small prize crew and some heavy infantry on the oars with many galley slaves being offered freedom.
Galley #5: Trebuchet loads have smashed the catapult and partially wrecked the main deck. 6 firebombs are wreaking havoc on the aftcastle.
[del]Galley #6[/del]: Burning and sinking from a bow explosion thanks to Deor.
Galley #7: Intercepted by the 3 fast escorts and Transport #8 with Transport #5 and Galley #4 under Thoroncir’s Prize crew coming in to help.
Galley #8: Engaged with the Elendil after being rammed. Cavalry and infantry on the deck winning with support of Gil-Gandel and Spell Casters. Transports #6 & #7 supporting.
Transport #4 is assisting Escort #2 in Damage control.
It takes another couple of hours but in the end, Gondor has captured 6 of the Galleys but decide to scuttle #5. They have freed roughly 215 men and captured 122 of the 480 men. The fleet is short on good prize crew trying to crew 5 galleys and make repairs but have plenty to row at least. Captain Langdon will accept any help offered.
I’m quite good with metal work Captain and not too bad at other forms of building, I will lend a hand in any area you think my talents might be needed.
Bitur also offers his assistance in making repairs.
Sir Thoroncir is delighted with his first independent command of a warship. He hoists the proud sable-and-silver banner of Gondor at the sternpost and declares to the crew, “Hear me, my friends, gallant seamates! I claim this ship, well and fairly captured from a foe who struck at us first with neither warning nor provocation, in the name of our gracious sovereign, Elessar the King. And, too, I hereby rename this ship after that most wise and beautiful of all ladies of Gondor, Gilraen. Long may she sail in service to the King!”
While repairs are made, he will speak with each of the former slaves aboard, advise them that they are now free, and write down information from each as to their names, how they were captured, their former homes and where they eventually wish to go (contingent on the availability of transport by the Gondorian Navy or civilian hulls). If any wish to enlist, they will be sworn into the King’s service at once. Medical treatment will of course be extended to any who need it.
The Sea-knight captain will then signal the Elendil as to the ship’s name change, and offer any assistance which Lord Langdon might need.
Lovesick ninny.
I have no sea-knowledge - when the time comes to cross the Sea, then by the grace of the Valar I will cross the Sea, and not by any skill of mine. But I will gladly join Thoroncir aboard his gallantly-named prize, and regale the freed oarsmen with happy songs of slavery overthrown and the prosperous home to which they shall return.
Ghân and his animal friends will happily join Thoroncir aboard the ‘Gilraen’.
He can offer Goodberries for minor curing.
He resists the temptation to ask Thoroncir how the new vessel name came about (Wose humour  ).
“I will gladly take two Goodberries, Ghân, if you have enough after seeing to the more seriously wounded. My thanks.”
Aside from that, Hraedsig is quiet, as he is quite annoyed with himself for losing focus during the battle and mis-identifying the boarders. He has more to learn about sea-combat than he thought, and he plans to follow Thoroncir around closely and observe.
Mulligan is quite happy to join Thoroncir on board his new boat, although it will probably make her as seasick as the Elendil.
Sir Thoroncir will also ask the newly-freed slaves, “From what nation or realm were those who enslaved you? What can you tell us about them?” Any talented linguists among them will be asked to help translate. Then he will interrogate any prisoners and try to learn as much as possible, especially anything that may be of use in any future naval engagements.
Mulligan is welcome aboard, although a smaller ship might make her even more seasick than remaining aboard the Elendil.
You know what’s good for seasickness, Mulligan? A few well-aged mussels and some raw egg to dip them in, as long as the egg’s not too fresh. And a spoonful or two of fishes’ eyes.
Note that I did not say this was good for curing or relieving seasickness…
Mulligan turns green and throws up over Gil-Gandel.
“Sorry, Gil-Gandel, didn’t mean to… uuuurrrrkk”
She hurries off to find the side of the ship.
(Gil-Gandel, prepared, skips nimbly aside with typical Elven grace.)
Bitur will stay with the flagship.
It’s bigger, so there’s less chance of falling overboard that way.
Deor, too, will stay on board the Elendil. The bigger the boat, he suspects, the less likely it is to sink out from under him.
The boats sort out and make repairs. Luckily among the rescued slaves are some men of the North and some southerners willing and able to help sail. The men are from all over but the galleys were from a island nearly 600 miles to the south. They are raiders and slave traders.
