Middle Earth FA64 D&D Game: Sixth Adventure - Harrying Harad by Sea

The General awaits the storming of the beach, he needs the extra support to take out the port. They armies are in the field and he expects help sooner and not later.

Mulligan: Oh right, in other words, beach landing first, infiltrate town later.

Rorimac: Does that mean that the best thing to do is, while the fight is going on, for some of us to stealthily move away and head for the port. Although, I am sure that we would be useful in the fight, perhaps during the fight we would not be as noticeable, especially if we are invisible.

Mulligan: I would suggest Me, you Rorimac, Gil Gandel and Ghan, in animal form, go for the town. We know how to handle ourselves invisibly while allowing everyone else to enjoy the fight, letting Gilraen patches them up afterwards. Ghan, your sense of smell will be much better than your sense of sight.

Rorimac: What does everyone else think?

Very good indeed.

Agreed. Let’s move forward, my axe is in need of some action.

The Captain, “This looks like a sound idea if you can spare the Ghân from the battle. So the Dwarves will join the infantry and Thoroncir and Hraedsig will lead the charge. Deor will support, though with Ghân gone, no one can relay messages via Folca. Am I missing anyone or anything?”

If we must, we must. Thoroncir will change the drilling of his men from shipboard defense to amphibious landing. Onward!

Mulligan: Ok, so if Deor makes the other 3 invisible, I will be fine as is. I will be popping in and out of sight, so the others can use me to keep their bearings.

Ghân is happy to shapechange to a pine martin (he can still cast spells) and ride on a shoulder.
He really doesn’t like too many Invisible characters, but maybe two will work (one to the left of Mulligan; one to the right).

DM, if a Scout is successfully hiding in shadows or Invisible, could Ghân benefit from either by riding on their shoulder?

A Pine Marten is pretty small, why not hide under the cloak Ferret style.

I think you can handle the invisibilities with some care. The other three are very stealthy and an invisible Marten can easily ride on Gil-Gandel. Then you would have touch, sound and smell to work with.

Right, having decided that, I guess its time to go play on the beach.

Is there a landmark nearby, the invisible squad can use to meet up at?

Hraedsig gets saddle and armor on Windfoot in preparation for the beach landing. He also checks his lance - it’s been a while since he had to use it, and he wants to make sure it is battle ready.

Thoroncir will of course do likewise with Seafoam. It’s been too long since he’s hefted a lance.

The invisible squad must beware of leaving footprints in sand, of course. Fortunately I tread… lightly.

It could be a pebble beach :stuck_out_tongue:

Besides, how many footprints do you think there will be with the two armies clashing?

I’d suggest you disembark after the great mass of knights and infantry go pounding ashore.

Ghân will ask Gil-Gandel if he’d would like a Pine Marten ‘companion’.

He’s still nervous about everyone being Invisible.
Are we standing right next to each other to’keep ‘in touch’?
If we can hear and smell each other, why can’t others?

Indeed we must beware of our enemies’ other senses. Still, humans are visual creatures and unless alert for other clues may think that if there is nothing to see then there is nothing at all. And in the ordinary way the Hobbits’ soft feet and my good Lorien boots make little sound - and a brief prearranged sound may convey much even though it is over and done before the unprepared listener marks it.

Anyone for a game of quoits while we wait?

My apologies for the long delay, I am finally ready for the battles.

The Elendil approaches the shore. She drops her sails and orders all sweeps into the water. The trebuchets are loaded and ready with a deadly hail of stones and heavy darts. All hands are ordered to stations. The cavalry is near the ramp doors and most of the infantry ready to follow. As the ramp drops, the cavalry is to mount and charge off. Thoroncir, Hraedsig and two more are expected to be off while the ramp is still 2-3 feet in the air.

Deor will be crouched in the bow ready to support with fireballs and Folca is in the air as eyes.
More to come in an hour, please comment as needed

Sir Thoroncir makes sure all is in readiness among the Sea-knights and Gondorian infantry, gives final orders to Aestirion and his men, requests a good-luck kiss from the fair Gilraen, pats and says a few encouraging words to his warhorse Seafoam, hoists his lance and climbs into the saddle.

He wishes good luck and happy hunting to Hraedsig and his fellow Sea-knights, Orodreth and Pelendur, who’ll be first off the Elendil with him.
