Middle Earth FA65 D&D Game: Next Adventure – (11th)

Gwaelur grumbles "it sounds like the Petty Dwarves (Gnomes) of Rhûn or Orlens area in the Northern Waste.

Dammit. Why dwarves?"

“I’m in agreement, my dwarven friend. There’s a slight possibility one of the bands of Belegost Dwarves here in the Blue Mountains could be building the body. They certainly have the skill and aren’t immune to Saruman’s charms, but I’m not getting any sense from the machine that Saruman’s spirit is focused anywhere near here. Like you, I suspect a trip into the Northern Wastes is in our near future.”

Ghan mentions that we gave the local Dwarves hereabouts some Troll silver - perhaps we could ask them if they have heard any rumours?

Thoroncir agrees that would be a good place to start.

“I believe I have more than enough skill to be effective with the bow, if I may be so bold.”

"That bow is longer than I am tall. It’s useless for me.

"Unless anyone else stakes a claim, take it and use it to the downfall of our foes.

“It appears to be a fine bow, Hejren. I say, take it, and use it well.”

Yes, please take the Bow!

“I am deeply appreciative, my friends.”

We should make plans to move north. We have to track the makers of this machine and do it quickly. Should we stop to recruit reinforcements and gather supplies before heading north in on this quest? Rivendell is on the way I believe?

The Petty Dwarves are bad news.

Gilraen says, “Most of the Petty Dwarves are east near the Sea of Rhûn near where Saruman spent some time before returning to the West. I don’t think many are up North.”

Felareth approaches Miregol.

It occurred to me earlier that I could benefit from the spell of Shield. Would it be possible for you to teach me that spell?"

Mirëgol is willing and carries the spell.
It will take about 2hrs and 50gp to learn it. you have 85gp and 150 in gems. Mirëgol always prefers gems. She is basically the jeweler wizard.

I will pay her 50gp in assorted gems then and make a copy of the spell in my own spellbook.

I’ll be prepariing it from now on instead of Longstrider.

Err…right. I never was good with maps.

Bitur addresses the party:

"Once we get to a safe area, I can see if I can incorporate the elements of the machine into Grávund. It certainly beats having to carry the machine around with us, and since badgers are known for having a keen sense of smell, it fits the idiom that he can sniff out Saruman. Plus, if I can manage to incorporate the other powers of the machine as well, it’ll improve our navigation abilities and reaction speed.

“Though, I’m not sure how casting the slow spell will work. After all, Grávund can’t cast it, and I don’t think anyone’s going to be carrying him around. Though maybe just being in physical contact would be enough. I guess I’ll find out when I get to work.”

Thoroncir says, “A fine idea, Bitur, if you believe you can do so safely. I would not want you to take any undue risks with this infernal machine, even if it would be for the ultimate benefit of the party.”

He is glad for Hejren to take, and make use of, the bow.

He still agrees with Ghan that inquiring among the local Dwarves would be a good first step as we seek to prevent the fallen Istari Saruman’s return to Middle-earth.

Ghan thinks Bitur has an ingenious idea to bring the machine along.
Ghan is slightly worried about how safe that will be - what does Miregol think of that plan?

(Ghan has a brief vision of Saruman returning as a Giant Badger. :fearful:   :flushed:)

Mirëgol’s reply, “I’m not sure, mechanical magic is not something I am strong at. But between the Legend Lore, my Arcane studies and I guess you might call it a deep feeling, I think Bitur’s plan is solid. That machine will be key to tracking Saruman. Tracking him before he builds up strength will be very important to stop him.”

She pauses, “I think I should return to the Mithlond and my home. I’m not an adventurer and will probably be more use at home. Warrior and I will maintain contact with you through Hejren. I’m going to try and establish a link to Gilraen who should be easy between her lineage & Missy and I’ll try for one other party member. Remember to use sending when you need my attention. Warrior tells me Felareth or Ghân should be easiest if willing. Are you willing?”

After the answers, “It might be best to go faster than those Dwarven Ponies will take you. Perhaps strike for Evendim or Fornost and arrange for horses, lots of horses. You’ll cover far more ground on fast steeds and swapping mounts. If you then head for Rivendell, I can arrange to have a fresh team of horses for you there and perhaps some help. If you’re instead guided to Rohan, I suspect the Princess and Ceol could arrange for excellent horses to continue.”

Hejren’s Map:

“I am willing toelp stay in contact.”
