Middle Earth FA65 D&D Game: Next Adventure – (11th)

OK, Ghan is sending his Awakened bird to the Elves with an explanation of what is happening and asking for their help (with our best guess of where Saruman is.)

Thoroncir agrees with Ghan’s, Ninthel’s and Bitur’s plans, and thanks them.

There are also Dwarves in the area we could call on for assistance. I don’t know too much about them as they tend to be an insular lot, even by dwarven standards. I do know they are a good and sturdy folk and no friends of Saruman and his orcish and gnomish allies. They’re within 50 miles of here. While we’re waiting on the birds to return, a few of us could ride out to them and let them know what’s going on. If Saruman comes into his full power, they’ll be near the front of the receiving line. And the more allies we have in this, the better.

I would gladly go with you to gather the extra drwaves while we scout ahead Bitur.

Gilraen says, “If we send off a small part of the party to the Dwarves, we should send our fastest rider with probably you Gwaelur. We need Bitur here. I believe Hejren is our fastest rider, on swift Liessa. But does anyone know the way to the Dwarves?”

Bitur knows they’re almost due south, just on the map. The aren’t far from where the road forks south of us. He can give detailed instruction to follow a wagon trail to their main entrance. Riding swiftly, Hejren could get there in most of 1 day and thus only 1 day back.

How far can I go in my bird form? That may be quicker. If so I volunteer.

It would be quicker, but without a Dwarf, you probably would do little good. These Dwarves are fairly racist I’m afraid.

Err, how do I put this. Is it wise to send an elf to go gather dwarven reinforcements? They are not all as enlightened and accepting as I am.

“Sending an Elf with you is certainly a risk, but I imagine if Hejren keeps her head down and defers to you in the discussion, there shouldn’t be too many issues. They have a pretty compelling reason to aid us, after all.”

“I would be glad to stay, or go, as needed,” Thoroncir says.

I don’t have a problem traveling with whoever decides to come on the journey. If the party thinks Hejren is best I’ll work with what I can. That said, Thoroncir or Ceol might be easier if they aren’t much slower.

“Both Thoroncir and I can ride rapidly, but every hour saved is an hour in our favor. I, too, would be willing to go along with Gwaelur, if we feel it would be best.”

“You know, I don’t weigh that much either. If I were to go, a third persson could ride on the Floating Disk I can conjure. And I’m good at getting people off their backside and doing things.”

Breaks inbto a martial refrain.

A persuasive Bard wouldn’t hurt. But it would be quicker to not have to stop to cast the disk. Liessa is significantly faster than even Baygir.

By significantly faster, how much faster is that? 90 vs 75 equates to how much time saved?

30’ = 20 miles a day
75’ = 50 miles on a good day
90’ = 60 miles on a good day.

So you could still get there in 1 day with Thoroncir & Hejren, expect to spend a day there and then 1 day back. How many people do you want to send or are you looking to not take Hejren to avoid the Dwarven prejudices?

[ooc] So Gwaelur is straight up a bigot when it comes to elves. Sorry to step out of character, but I want to be sure I’m not being too subtle here. I am hoping to get an arc going on with him where he overcomes this, but he’s no where close to that right now especially not with Hejren who he barely knows. He would be EXTREAMLY unhappy to go on this mission with Hejren all by themselves, and he probably believes that she will mess the whole thing up anyway, possibly on purpose. Also, he’s never going to say that out loud. That said, if she’s the better person to go I as the person in control of Gwaelur don’t want him to actually get in the way of things. So it’s up to the party. [/ooc]

“Felareth, it would probably be helpful if you came along. I don’t know these dwarves or know if they know of me so your people skills would probably be helpful. Hejren, you are fast, but you are probably needed with the party and the dwarfs won’t like it if you show up with us. That said, they probably won’t be thrilled to see any elves when they show up, but by then they will be committed. What do you think Thoroncir?”

“No arguments with that reasoning-I would not want to ruin any chance at any successful rapport with the dwarves.”

Thoroncir says, slowly at first, “Although I am loath to cater to anyone’s unreasoning hatred or distrust of others, time is of the essence and the stakes are very high. I believe, on balance, and with all due respect, it would be best if Hejren did not come along.”

“It’s just as well that a slightly slower steed is taken to the Dwarves. Even if some few hours are saved on the ride there, help will not be riding out at the same fast pace. The question is: Who will be riding out? Thoroncir and Gwaelur on Baygir? Would Felareth be joining somehow?”

Hejren, perhaps you should have your Sending spell prepared in case we must contact those who ride out.”
