Thoroncir cries, “Awake, my friends, awake! The Cold Drake has found us and even now is close at hand. Awake, and to arms!” He will put on his Sea-knight armor, mount up and attack, if there is time. Otherwise he will fight the foul worm as best he can in the time available.
[low initiative sux]
This time I’ll cast Slow right off the bat. [Reasoning that the breath weapon is the biggest danger-to the entire party-not the physical attacks]
Felareth rolls to his feet, grabs his mandolin and starts to sing a song.
“Float… float on
Float on, float on”
(Felareth casts Levitate on the drake. It must make a DC16 Con save or float up 20’ and hang there.
Felareth then moves 10’ to the side, spreading out the targets for a breath weapon.)
Bitur runs out to meet the drake in the first round, casting Mage Armor on himself. He tries to get as far away from anyone else as possible to increase the spread between the party.
For the second round, depending on the results of the Levitation cast, Bitur will attack wither with his Compound Bow or the Axe/Shield.
Though he’ll be late to engage with the drake, Ceol will move to melee range as soon as he can, while working with the other meleers in the party to maintain a protective front for the group’s spellcasters. He will cast Searing Smite before he attacks.
Ghan will cast Conjure Animals going for a Polar Bear appearing right in front of the Drake.
Ghân-buri-Ghân conjured up a Polar Bear directly in front of the Drake. He is quite startled as the bear hits the Drake with its claws for 16 points of slashing damage. Its Bite missed by 2 with the d20+d4.
Then Felareth attempts to levitate the flying beast that just barely weighs under the 500 pound requirement. Its Con save is a 13 total, so it fails and starts floating up, especially the back end that was not clawed by a polar bear.
Bitur gets his Mage Armor up and sets himself near by but not directly between the party & Drake, if it tries to move past, it will give an opportunity attack.
The Drake was planning to breath towards the camp but now at an awkward angle and in the air. It pumps its wings to regain control and attacks the polar bear. Bite & Claws both hit. It does 39 points, seriously injuring the bear but not killing it.
Thoroncir mounts up with ease but without armor and charges at the floating Drake, pulling his lance out in this case. He hits with a 22 total and hits a second time with a 24. The charge pushes the drake against the wall of the ravine. He did 32 points (48 total)
Gwaelur has no target for his axe, but he shoot with his crossbow.
Ceol uses half his movement to mount and the other half to just reach the Drake. His lance also hits twice igniting it with his Searing Smite. He does 27 more (75) and flames play over the Drake.
The Drake appears to be terribly hurt.
Hejren casts a slow spell on this foe, it rolls a total of 8, failing. Armor class is now lower by 2 and it can’t take reactions. Only 1 attack is allowed.
Let me know if any action surges are being used or anything else.
Yes action surge and menacing attack both
[misread post]
Gwaelur’s bolt strikes true into the monster’s mouth. A natural 20 with menacing does 20 more slaying the beast. Its corpse is now floating like a weird flaming balloon.
Ghan heartily congratulates the party and checks to see if anyone is injured (apart from his Polar Bear!)
If all remains quiet (and no party member needs help), he will cast Healing Spirit on the Bear for a full minute (giving 10d6 heal, correct?)
Ghan then suggests that we could try to track back to the Drake’s lair.
Ghan heals the bear 34 points. It is only down 5 points and feels much better.
Felareth would be in favour of exploring the Drake’s lair, provided we go in the daytime and fully geared up. Just in case of unexpected perils.
That being said, if we have limited time to take side trails, perhaps it could be done on the way back?
Ghan agrees that we wait out the night, especially with a storm due in a couple of hours.
He suggests that it (hopefully) will be a quick trip into the Drake’s lair via the tunnel it made.
Does anyone fancy scouting it? (Ghan can offer Pass without Trace to all volunteers, giving a +10 bonus to Stealth.)
Bitur will volunteer to scout it with Ghan’s stealth bonus. One or two others are welcome to join him.
Felareth says “I am somewhat skilled at stealth, armour notwithstanding. Assistance would be welcome, thank you Ghan.”
Ghan is ready to cast Pass without Trace on all who wish to scout.
Actually he may be able to assist himself…
Gwaelur isn’t the most stealthy but his vision is fantastic and his helm can light up the lair for everyone. He’s willing to help.
As am I, since I can ID most any item. [and have some stealth skills]
