Are there ever any dopefests in the Midwest? I mostly lurk here, but would be fascinated to meet some of you in person.

You mean the Midwest, or the Great Plains? Heh. Because I’d say you’re in the latter, if KC is your location.
Ohioans have gotten together in Columbus, Cincy, Dayton, and Toledo. Michiganders have Dopefested in Flint and Ann Arbor. Illini have huge Chicago Megafests–and also get together for smaller things.
Not sure to what extent Dopers in other middle-of-the-country states get together.

Dude, when a party is thrown in your town, you are expected to show up! 
Anyway, just this past weekend auntie em and I were mulling over the possibilities of leading a charge for another get-together. Maybe not this month, or even the next, but defnitely during the summer.
Of course, if someone else wants to do the chargin’, we’ll be happy to follow, too. We’ll also jump off bridges for our friends, mind you.

SkipMagic, In August I was breaking up (yet again) with my significant other, and going on the vacation from hell with my parents in Ocean City, MD. I wish to God I’d attended the KC area Dopefest instead.
I’m too shy to lead a charge (note the small number of posts), but will be happy to provide charge-backup and support.

Well, given current events in our lives, auntie em and I won’t probably throw one for a few months; however, if anyone else wants to get one started, we’d be happy to attend.
And Ousiey, don’t worry about the number of posts you have when throwing a Dopefest. Heck, even though I have been registered since 1999 (and an old lurker from the AOL days), I acted on throwing a Dopefest with less posts than you have now. Heck, before I started posting a lot last year, I had only 4 posts to my name, so post count doesn’t matter.
… and just to 'fess up, I originally wanted to throw the Dopefest to meet auntie em. But month(s) before the fest, I scrounged up enough courage to ask her out on a date and, well, here we are.
