If I decided to throw a Midwest Dopefest, would anyone want to come? (Note the word IF. This Dopefest is only hypothetical at this point.)
I live in Indiana, or more specifically, Mishawaka, Indiana. If you don’t know where that is, it’s here. I am near the top center of IN. to the immediate east of South Bend. Although Mishawaka’s not on this map, it’s between South Bend and Elkhart. South Bend is home of the University of Notre Dame, just for reference.
IF I did this, it would have to be low budget to no budget. In light of that, I have no ideas what to do or where exactly to do it. There isn’t a whole lot around here to see, IMHO. Some of the “attractions” are Notre Dame, The College Football Hall of Fame, and The Studebaker National Automobile Museum. Hummer aka “Humvee” vehicles are manufactured here in Mishawaka. I just thought I would mention those.
Do you own your own home? If not, would it be possible to have a Dopefest/BBQ/potluck at a local park? Everybody could bring a dish of food and their own beverages of choice. Another option could be a museum tour. Most museums are free or minimally priced to the public.
BTW, South Bend is only about a three hour drive for me, so I could possibly make it. There is also a Michigan Dopefest in the works for June which would only be a two to three hour drive for you, or you could wait for the next ChiDope.
Magical, I know where Mishawaka is (was just down there a few weekends ago!), but I’m saving myself (so to speak) for the Dopapalooza that’s going on in June.
Are there any Hoosier Dopers here? Anyone from MI,IL,OH???
I feel I am missing out! Everyone else gets to go to a Dopefest. I just don’t have the resources to travel. I guess I will have to bring the Dopefest to me!
I can’t give a date yet. But I am aware or several events in my town that are quite entertaining withing the next few months that would be good Dopefest material.
I do not own my own home, or apartment, I live with my mother, so if I am hosting a Dopefest, it would have to be somewhere else other than my home.
There are tons of hotels here in town, infinite restaurants, and shopping areas.
As far as what would we do? Well I like the park picnic idea, I know a great place for that. However, there are so many places to “hang out” here, I don’t know where to begin as far as indoor get togethers.
I guess all I need to know at this point is if anyone is interested. This is only in the “IF” stage right now, so don’t mark your calendars or anything.
Hey hey hey MagicalSilverKey! Checking in from Muncie. I’d most likely be up for this dopefest. Can’t guarantee it though with work being a bitch and all. Although set a time and I’ll see what I can do about making it.

I am very aware of Dopapalooza, unfortunately, there’s no way I can attend that event. (Unless someone wanted to pick me up and sponsor my trip. I’m unemployed and broke.)
As for the mall thing, yes, Mishawaka is what I refer to as “mall capitol of the midwest.”
Now why haven’t I seen this thread before? You bastards have been hiding it 'cuz you don’t want me there, I know. I could certainly make it to Mishawaka. It’s only a 2½ hour drive from Toledo. Pick a day. I’ll be there. Preprandial drinks are on me.
Done. I’m going to be heading up from Louisville, so heading up through IN versus cruising over to Cinci and rolling up through OH is pretty much 7 of one, half dozen of another. The sponsoring…well, you’re on your own, but I can get you there, at any rate.
